That was really cool to see the king all the way out of the water with your lure. I've had them do that trolling and it's always exciting. That was a killer day at the pier.

Fish fryed in bacon grease sounds great! My favorite way of cooking whole fish is fryed in lard with fryed onions! We used to go surf fishing and cook our catch right there at the beach!

Bacon and lard are healthy unlike veg. oils. I used Jalapeno flavored bacon and it was good too. Fish is healthy if there are no toxins in it,too. Barracuda is one of the fish to avoid. You should try steaming the fish and pouring the fats over it if you don't have time to smoke em. Minimize the carbs/sugar and eliminate the veg/seed oils and you are going to live a lot longer and most importantly, be active and healthier . If I were living where you are I'd not be giving those fish away but smoking those kings because they are so good. Pensacola fishing forum has recipe for Smoked Kings to die for recipe/instructions. When the power is out due to those hurricanes you will have those smoked fish to snack on,too.

Grew up in north Okaloosa county and been fishing that peir since it was first built...well all of them that's been built and rebuilt when the hurricanes tore them up. When I was younger and on the 1st pier my dad would take me but made sure I stayed in the middle so I wouldn't get hooked. Use to be at least 2 or 3 folks a day would get snagged on that thing...ouch! Have caught about everything off it except for a king or cobia (back then was called a ling) I was lucky growing up and got to fish from Pensacola to Panama City....icw, bays, bayous, and gulf.

I use 13 fishing products alot for fresh water. Very pleased with their reels. Used them yesterday to complete a crap corner slam on Ky lake. Caught at least 1 fish on every lure in the sack.

Kings are so fun to catch from a Pier or Shore just something other than a boat! More of a Challenge!

Cut your king in nuggets cover in frenches mustard bread and deep fry, OMG you will love it! Yes the way you cooked the kings is my favorite!!!

When I bring back Spanish/King mackerel to the restaurant the sushibchefs will cold smoke the mackerel and then torch it lightly before serving it as sushi/sashimi

That king mackerel reminds me of the bluefish well larger bluefish we catch up here in Connecticut same bloodline same color , what do you think the taste difference is? I am sure you’ve had bluefish before let me know what you think ,thank you,BK from Connecticut

I have a 6000 battle 3 7 foot rod with 50 pound braid(326 yards) and 100pound mono leader for kings is that too much? Or should I use my 4000 fierce 4 with 200 yards of 30 pound braid and 8 foot rod? Please help fishing okaloosa pier soon.

I’m was and the Pier on Saturday the 1st brought a family member to see the pier . The Spanish apparently had been hitting like crazy people had buckets full. I went to the end of the pier guy was using an Xrap and landed one with 15 seconds of the lure hitting the water.. Did you happen to be there on Saturday morning filming that video? I’m going to try and make the Grand Opening of the grand opening. Thank you for such great content 😁

Maybe next time, grill or skillet the fish in smaller pieces, chop fish some what fine chop jalapeños and cilantro and cooked bacon, mix with cream cheese, stuff some giant jalapeños or hatch peppers wrap with bacon and broil or grill . I know its not sushi, but it really sounds good 😋.

It's odd that here in Oz what you call a king is closer to what we'd call a spanish and what you call a spanish is closer to what we'd call a spotted or school mackerel. Funny how things can be so different and far away, yet so similar.

Reel the jig as fast as you can across the top of the water the jacks will bite or at least look at the jig they're not at all interested in anything moving that slow.
