Even if it wasn't, he wasn't getting any utility out of the Clefairy for the rest of the game. There is an argument for just spamming the rocks and letting it die, but it coulda made a good pin cushion for the rest of the fight of the block wasn't there

normally you'd switch out a pokemon in the case of a bad matchup, so yes... not usually this often but yeah, switching is common that's why spikes are also common

Basically, the opponent is playing almost entirely off of predicting temp, but temp knows this and is playing against what the opponent (and many) would consider the correct, more conservative way to play. For example, he stayed in with Toxapex against Swampert even when it was clear another Earthquake would kill, and his opponent, predicting he'd obviously switch the Toxapex out, went for a Flip Turn hoping to gain momentum. Temp, however, made the somewhat ballsy play of staying in instead, and ended up with the upper hand in the exchange.
