This video ranks the top 15 countries by active military personnel per 1000 capita, spanning from 1900 to 2024, using a captivating bar chart race animation. The ranking of the world's largest armies per capita showcases each country's relative commitment to its army.
Active military force refers to full-time soldiers and personnel who are on duty, ready to defend their nation. The countries are ranked per 1000 capita: to put it simply, a value of 10 means that for every 1000 people in the population, there are 10 active military members.
The stats for this video are pulled from The Correlates of War Project and The Military Balance reports.
It took me a lot of effort to create this video, so I'd really appreciate your feedback.
Digging into the stats, I realized there hasn’t been a single year without a military conflict somewhere in the world. It’s a reminder that we should all work together for more peaceful times.

Some countries might appear in the video a year earlier or disappear a year later. Please don't be mad about this; it's due to the process of interpolating and smoothing the data over the years.
In the video, I couldn't cover every war and conflict that occurred during this period, so I focused on mentioning key wars that explain the changes seen in the graph at those moments.
If you spot an incorrect flag for a specific year or wrong country name, please drop a comment below, so I can make the necessary corrections for my next video.
