I’ve seen a few comments here an other places about putting a weight on the end of the rifle reduces the recoil. I’ve done a full video on this topic to fix that ignorance: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-h4ESNfY1SuU.html

When my kid was 3 I definitely wouldn’t let them fire any center fire gun except a PCC and even then, probably not. I still haven’t taken my 6 year old, although that’s mostly a convenience thing plus my 6 year old is a girl. According to my wife girls don’t shoot guns. I disagree and think that it’s more important for my girls to shoot then for my boys. (Still trying to get the wife out shooting. She’s said if she ever needs to she can use the shotgun! This just reminds me of when the military found out that muzzle blasts from heavier weapons induce microconcussions, and cummulative long term exposure could develop into TBI. Just putting it out there.
@ChucksSEADnDEAD
@ChucksSEADnDEAD 2 года назад
The airfoil doesn't seem to do anything. It's just the high pressure gasses being redirected to the rear. For an airfoil to work and actually create lift, it has to face incoming air at an appropriate Angle of Attack. These "airfoils" are perpendicular to the direction of fluid travel. The AoA is essentially 90 degrees. The lift it can produce is the same of an airplane dropping like a rock from the sky with no forward velocity - none. If it were possible to clamp that cutaway model to acrylic and release some kind of pressurized air mixed with smoke or fog, we'd see that the airflow moving out the ports would have separation from the airfoil which is indicative of a stall.
@PineyJustice
@PineyJustice 2 года назад
@@ChucksSEADnDEAD Except the pressure differential is pushing air across them at high speeds. I'm sure the redirection doesn't hurt either, but the airfoil theory is quite sound.

WHAAAT?
@ChucksSEADnDEAD
@ChucksSEADnDEAD 2 года назад
@@SuspiciousGanymede If there's walls nearby, for example, weapons like the Mk19 and the 50 cal can have the shockwaves bounce off it. The shoulder fired weapons issue was known already, it was the microconcussion thing that surprised them. A similar thing happens in boxing, people worry about the big concussions but it is known that the repetitive punching from sparring generates a high number of smaller shocks that in the end have cumulative effects and can develop into TBI. I didn't want to imply that shooting 5.56 in an outdoor range is going to make people turn into retired boxers, there's plenty of old shooters who are sharp in the mind and they've shot big calibers. Now indoor range, with the steel dividers that don't have sound absorption panels, obnoxiously short barrels and these silly brakes... I'd try to not do that often.

I agree show it reducing recoil on larger calibers, the noise from those has to be horrendous, maybe intolerable despite hearing protection. Maybe the velocity increase over the curve is a magnitude over the speed of sound and each curve becomes an additional source of sonic boom that services to lengthen the sonic impulse since they are so close together. Why not put a suppressor between the muzzle and the “Brake.”

The function is not so much from the airfoil design as far as "lift" goes. It's from thrust and the cupping shape using the deflection of the mass of air pushing on the brake. The shape certainly makes the flow smoother though.

Just a flat or even curved back plate to reduce the blowback that comes right back at you. With the curve I think it would be great. Also not hard at all to add. Hire me guys. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Literally the same thing that I have accomplished with a $3.50 rubber AR Wedge from Ergo grip. Lol. Idk just seems pointless to me to have a built in wedge for your lower cost $200-$400 depending on what lower your comparing it to. If you compare it to a $100 Aero Precision lower then it cost $450 more for the built in wedge. Hahaha

That's not how thisworks, that's not how any of this works. You're mistaken about the fluid dynamics. Yes individual airfoils function the way you explained. However those a stacked and close together. Only the first and last port change the gas velocity. The center ports have an increase on one surface and a decrease on the other surface. Both in the same port meaning they counteract and equalize.
