RU-vid decided I NEED to know more about super yachts. Why? No clue. I have no interest in yachts as I get sea sick on big boats, and I'd never afford one anyway. That being said, I've fallen down rabbit hole with your videos. Lol. I've never given things much thought, you explain things great and make me want to know more. Cheers from Tennessee, USA
Love your videos! I have a quick note for you on solid waste disposal. The onboard processing doesn't primarily remove toxins, but pumps in oxygen into the waste to allow the micro to multiply and break it down. The reason it's illegal to dump raw waste into the ocean is because the BOD (Biological Oxygen Demand) is too high, and the waste will cause too high of a spike in the micro count which consumes too much oxygen in the sea water and kills the fish. Some toxins are also removed through filtration, but that is not nearly as important as the oxygen.
For those that wondered, the Island with the Bull on it is "New Providence Island in the Bahamas - and, it's likely that you may not have heard of it. Owned by British billionaire Joe Lewis"
So my girlfriend I'm highschool her dad started the first fiberoptic cable installation company that got all the government's contract and he went from making millions to billions and after he sold his company for 5.6 billion we flew to a world series game in one of his Jets he told me making that kind of money with a global company was so stressful he had 3 major heart attacks in 2 years and was miserable everyday, the stress of not knowing if someone's stealing from you , is your money safe is it in the right place etc etc that it kept him up days at a time that's why he sold it.. Just remember money doesn't buy happiness just happy endings lol
I would say that money does buy happiness, it's all the other shit that makes you miserable. If I had the money without the hassle, I would definitely be happy on my massive yacht, personal island or back to back holidays.
Great video. Working as a crew member on a yacht is not easy either, stressful at times, sometimes dangerous out on the open ocean in storms. Excellent learning experiences at least though, amazing adventures, get paid to travel and figure out your master plan for life, your hopes and dreams come alive on the ocean, I promise you. Money definitely can't buy happiness. . . its the spending of it doing charity and investing in start up business to help people grow and support their friends and families who have ideas to help save our world and help more people be healthy and knowledgeable so as to help them achieve their dreams to reality. Happiness goes hand in hand with great health. The richest people I've worked for as their engineer are happiest when healthy & giving to others, at least sharing their knowledge and experiences, Knowledge is power. I find charity work brings me the most joy now days, i love doing charity work to help people with a hand up, but not often just a hand out. I am not a rich man, I don't want to be, been there, ya never know who ya friends really are when obviously rich. Jesus had a great life, he knew how to love God, himself and others properly and went around teaching the best ways to live with his trusted friends on many adventures. Taking certain risks are often so rewarding, we win win some, we lose some, the law of reciprocity at play. A law of our Universe, no loss - no gain. I am content with having a little more than I need these days and giving the rest away to help people invest in their future. One yacht owner I worked for in 2003 to 2004 who now lives here in New Zealand and I am still friends with showed me that Health is the True Wealth. He invested in my solar energy company and soon after my company won a Gold Award, our team were amazed, had not expected it. The best investment we can all make is in our diet, the best quality foods and health drinks. ok, much more expensive, but gives much better health and vitality, so more ideas come to bring more income and more ways to help others and the energy to bring to fruition aswell, more confidence, more knowledge. He showed me yoga too, to elliminate stress and have great sleeps. in 2012 I mastered Qi Gong after seeing Falun Gong people in a Christchurch park, changed my life big time after a solar energy biz trip to Germany and China. Life is what we make it. All the best everyone, God Bless you all. Amen. Grant Simpson - WWW.EnviroWise.NZ
Hahaha, do you believe it yourself? These people make themselves unhappy whilst having every possible instrument and opportunity to do the right thing and be happy. They do not know what happiness is, do not know how to get it, and are often forced to do bad things against their will by scurrilous bounders they employ, And people like you and me are never hired because we do not get past the crazy HRM psychologists who are incompetent and have to play everything supersafe lest their incompetence is disclosed accidentially by people like me. CEO's also always get lied to all of the time. That gives tremendous stress because they act upon false data. I know a lady who was really crazy and difficult to have around, and still is, by the way, but who always said what the actual situation was, or, as Americans say, told "truth to power". She was hired by Fred Heineken, the beer billionaire, from a low job in a train to become one of his personal assistents and the only thing she had to do is tell him what was actual, what was true. He met her by accident but she proved to be of immense value to him in running his board of directors. The stress these people get is from low-life that pretends to be sophisticated smart people, and this perfect pretence, this show, makes it nigh impossible to weed them out. If you father would have had the knowhow of finding and disposing of such people he would have had ZERO heart attacks. But he chose not to know which makes his heart attacks his own fault, i.e. caused by his own doing. So, don't give me that whining. It is bullshit from A to Z.
I just stumbled in here but I am so glad I did. Great information. Thank you for giving us a glimpse of a lifestyle most of us will never see. You are very good as an ambassador for your profession. Best of luck to you.
This was a great video. You answered alot of good questions. Topics that I haven't seen being addressed before. Thankyou and keep up the great work. I truly enjoy your videos. Stay safe out there.
What an amazing video - answering all the questions us landlubbers really want to ask but were embarrassed to -- like how is poop handled. Major props to you friend. That was very informative - sincerely it was.
Saw the oil rig type luxury pic and clicked your vid. Was waiting for it to appear but when it didn‘t I thought you used the pic as click bait. At the end, was still glad to have watched this because, as many have already said, very interesting and informative 👍
Nothing wrong with a clickbait thumb, as long as the image actually appears in the video. Just bad form and invites thumbs down. As you said, still a good video.
I really enjoyed watching your video. I'm not sure how I stumbled onto your channel but I'm glad that I did. The questions were interesting as were your answers and explanations. Of course, these are problems I will thankfully never have. Cheers, mate!
I would be a nightmare owner. I am a people person and very curious about operational details. I would be all over that ship, meeting and talking to the crew. Also, I feel uncomfortable having someone wait on me hand and foot. I was taught to put my dishes in the sink when I'm done eating.
new to super yacht life? ..what does this emergency button do? dont touch it man overboard...shall I do the washing up captain? no throw it in the 'sink', buy another set from Ikea .. how does the sexy crew girl work captain? .uuum .. would you like me to park it captain? ... please sit down and keep out of the way ... give this guy a large drink and keep him quiet please ..
I shot The Nassima a couple of years ago. Spend three days on board and felt remarkably uncomfortable when the stews cleaned up my ‘mess’ all day. I was like: you don’t have to change the sheets every morning, but yet they did… Ah well.
@@terrenceklaverweide6356 ha ha. Exactly. They would have to lock the door to the bridge to keep me from trying to drive the ship. Hey Captain, I think I've got this. I've watched several episodes of Below Deck.

@@njsarn This is true. Not to mention, depending on whom you hire and what you pay, you could single-handedly change the lives of entire families! I wish I didn't get seasick so horribly. Would love having an opportunity such as this.
Great job! Thanks for the video. It is interesting to hear about the lifestyle of the boat owners. I have been around rich people all my life and some of them are differently eccentric. Keep up the good work.
I've seen on RU-vid pretty over the top things about millionaires but this video is on another level!!! Chase boats just for toys?? Holly shit... And what I'm even more astonished is that there's no video about that island on RU-vid in one of those "most expensive things"... Holly shit, now that's how you know it's over the top and exclusive!!!
Simple, you hear about things because the person allows (or someone blabs) too much detail. He specifically didn't say WHO it was, if you know you know -- and probably have an NDA. If you don't you won't find it out.
If I could give this video 👍👍👍👍👍, I would. You are an extremely knowledgable guy who makes very interesting and informative videos. Your style is impeccable. Your editing is on cue and your drone footage is the icing on the cake! I would be willing to bet that if you increased the quantity of your uploads, you would top 100K Subs in short order. You have no competition. Well done Sir!
Thanks for the compliments I hope that will happen. I am increasing the quantity of uploads on the channel and I have another channel launching soon hopefully.
Have you ever worked on an expedition yacht? Which kind of yacht or trip you enjoy more? Cruising around, expedition to remote places, sailing or other.
A fascinating (and long overdue) glimpse into the "other side" of mega-yacht ownership/operations! I would like very much to hear more from you on these maters and, to that end, I have a question: As an ex-USN snipe (Machinist's mate, i.e. steam/diesel engine room ops, HVAC, etc.) from "down in the black gang", I'm interested in how often major equipment failures occur at sea and how are they dealt with? Failures preventing proper sea keeping, for example. I'm sure they're very rare indeed, but still...
Keeping a yacht pristine is extremely labor intensive for all departments - interior, deck and engineering have daily routines not to mention repairs, refits when needed, etc…
Great observation about owners seeming ‘preoccupied’ or cranky.. I’m sure that most of them usually wish life was simple, with no responsibilities.. Unfortunately, their chices has made that impossible..
You are absolutely right. When I worked for the Americas Cup my Boss told me the only difference between himself and other people is that he has more money. He continued by saying “Having more money I have many more problems and much bigger problems than most people. I always have to watch my money.” I said to him “You have to watch your money? Don’t you have people to do that for you?” He concurred by saying that he had to watch the people that were watching his money to make sure that they weren’t stealing from him. And all I could think of is what a miserable way to live your life! I was happy riding my used 10-Speed Fuji to wherever I needed to go on the island. Enjoying my beautiful view of the island and the ocean, from what used to be the Butlers living quarters on the top floor, of an stately Victorian mansion. Gladly not being concerned about people stealing my 💰 money because I didn’t have any! And I was perfectly fine with that! My boss and his wife had twin yachts! The crew wore uniforms and the captain of the ship wore shoulder boards. There was a Guard House with a Security Officer before you could enter the dock. The Security Guard told me that I could lean my 10 -speed against the Guard House. I always chained and locked 🔒 my bike/transportation to the fence. Pretty funny I think looking back on it. Would make a great scene in a movie. The absurdity of a perfectly mechanical used 10 -Speed Fuji that was beginning to show signs of salt rust being securely locked next to the Guard House with multi million dollar yachts glistening in the ☀️ summer sun behind it was ironically hilarious!! 🤣😇😎 Reminds me of a Tracey Ullman comedy sketch where she enters a room with her arms out stretched and her head held high announcing “ Hello everyone! Welcome to me!” Auntie Maine said it perfectly well, “ Life is a banquet and you’re all starving to death!” 30 some years later I still have that same used 10 -speed Fuji resting my garage. Together we had many wonderful adventures.
Outstanding video...incredible warm style...thanks so much for giving us a glimpse into this incredible part of life. And, you are exactly correct, with wealth comes stress to keep it, stress to make it and life is never simple or the same again. Once you taste it, you have to have more like any addiction. But, thanks, wonderful video.
Do immediately another one, a longer one. These are entertaining. And I like that you don't filter the questions. My question is: how common are the escorts and paid woman on yachts? From rumors (and instagram) it feels like they are on every other boat at least almost all the time.
Regarding that last section about the the owner buying an island, he does not actually own that island. Albany, Bahamas is just a large plot of land located on the southwestern tip of New Providence. Btw, New Providence is the most populous island in the Bahamas and serves as the capital.
I love everything you do but this one was awesome! Now I have a question for you. Let's just say that you're on a big yacht and all of the crew suddenly disappears into thin air, leaving you the only person left on board. What's the biggest yacht you could possibly manage to pilot all by yourself, if you really had to? And for how long would you be able to do so? Thanks alot for the video and have a good day.
Back in the late 70s, I remember visiting my boyfriend’s family home outside Philadelphia. The enormous living room had white carpeting, and on the coffee table was a real estate magazine of islands for sale. So islands have been for sale (and bought) for more than half a century.
Hey man, love the content. I live in Michigan, USA, so I'm surrounded by pretty huge fresh water on all sides. I've sailed 4 of the 5 Great Lakes quite a bit and am more a fan of the smaller sailboat sailing. I know the Great Lakes are nothing compared to the open oceans, butI'm curious what are your thoughts on the skeleton crews making huge oceanic passages in 20 or 30ish foot sailboats that rely heavily on the winds? Would this be something you'd consider trying out as a SuperYacht fella?
Do you think that solar and lithium will make it into the super yacht industry in the near future or the distant future? I keep thinking of the cost of fuel for a yacht and can't help but think that solar with batteries would be a more common solution.
A point of contention for me, is the difference between fresh water lake yachts and salt water (Pacific) yachts. Having grown up in Hawaii (firmly in the Pacific Ocean), I find a lot of the electronic doors and doo-dads on fresh water boats HILARIOUS. In my mind, the explorer yachts with the least amount of rickety breakable idiocy are the most sensible.
Very interesting video and enjoyable, learning something new about the yacht industry. Over the years how many owners have you worked for? Thanks for sharing.
New intro is a great improvement! The weird noise luckily now is gone :-) Thumbnail might be a bit misleading, this quality channel doesn't need such an approach I think
Thanks so much! This is fantastic. Its really preparing me for my incoming billionaire status. I might look u up when I get there. Good help is hard to find.
About Crew Size. Say an owner has a business with 55 locations in town. He may have it so organized that he does not even meet each Store Manager. He sees 4-6 people, but employs hundreds. The individual I met actually managed his own store, just like day 1. He directly handled customers 6 days a week. He also had systems and procedures so 54 other stores did not call him about petty operational matters. Conceivably an owner could arrive and leave, and arrange it so he NEVER saw staff, if you believe it. Howard Hughes did that for decades, and saw perhaps 7 people in that time.
Hi... I really enjoy you sharing your experties with us and the amazing way you explain little details, I am sure we all appreciate. You mentioned that the Yachts refuel in Gibraltar or in Funchal in the Azores? Or did you mean Funchal or the Azores. Funchal is not in the Azores. Just a little geographical mistake. :)
Awesome video keep them coming. I am a new subscriber to your channel and enjoying the content very much. Just out of curiosity what is your position on the boat? Are you an engineer or deckhand or something like that? Thanks
He won't answer that question, but I believe (based on many prior posts/questions) that he is a systems engineer. I.e. He looks after all the communications, A/V, and tech systems on board. He will not tell you what yacht he's on either, but I believe the current one he's on is around 100m. Cheers.
This question is based on the sad reality that no matter how good a background check is, some people do slip through the cracks: What happens to crew/guests/owners(?) that commit crimes on yachts at sea?
Retired merchant mariner, carried people, carried cargo(coal, timber, ore pellets). All I can say is cargo don't bitch and complain.Cargo don't get drunk and hit on crew. Cargo don't demand to drive the ship.Never reminds crew how much they earn and paid for the cruise. Cargo never rants on and on about who it knows.
I’m loving your videos. I was in VilleFranche sur mer during the big yacht show. Daily I paddle boarded around the boats YACHTS that would cycle in and out. It’s really stunning to see some of the really sexy yachts up close. I was wondering what island you’re speaking of and of course, who bought it?? Not Putin I hope. 😆 thanks so much.
Do any of the bosses ever hobnob with the crew? Like at the end of a long trip? Plenty of employers I've known would occasionally throw a party or something for their workers. How about the oligarchs on their yachts?
i’d say along with stress there would be a teensy weensy smidgeon of guilt with a few demons thrown in…you don’t make that amount of money without bringing on pain and suffering to people along the way…corporate takeovers company resizing resulting in thousands losing their jobs…breaches of environmental laws etc just to name a few…can’t tell me no one is crying….the road to the billion is strewn with blood and tears!
The septic being dumped in the ocean is a little disturbing until you realize all the whales arnt sending there poop through a filter before disposing of it so it's pretty natural I guess.
Of course, the dream of massive cash is to be carefree, "idle rich" where all your investments generate wealth and you have the right people managing everything for you, to the point that you simply don't need to be around your own company, and can spend months at a time exploring the beauty of the natural world on your pride & joy yacht. But reality isn't like that. You can't trust your company to others, certainly not if you built it up from nothing. In fact your yacht becomes an unwelcome distraction, something you have just because, well... you're a multimillionaire and so having a yacht is the "done thing" but you really couldn't care less. It's all about more. More investments. More cash flow. More credit. More More More
You get to choose, one can choose a lifestyle that you describe in the first paragraph. Many do, it doesn’t sound like you’ve experienced that or believe it so until you change you’ll continue to see what you describe i the second paragraph. The choice is yours friend
What is your opinion on open sea pirating, and what is the rule for having your own security in board as part of your usual crew, and what is the limit of defense equipment that you can legally internationally internationally install on your vessel? Thanks again for your informative videos
I've just recently stumbled onto ur channel so I've been bingeing on ur videos for the last few days. I especially liked this one tho, so I hope u have more like it. I'm wondering tho, what was up with that crazy looking yacht that u have pictured at the very beginning? I If u can even call it a yacht. I never heard u mention anything about it tho. It looks too extravagant to even be real, but u just never know with some ppl, so I was just kinda wondering.
How difficult is it to get a job in this sort of industry ? What courses would you recommend to a newbie who would like to get into yachting but has no previous experience ?
Heya, I love your channel and watch every video. Please be careful about cheapening it with false thumbnails. VinWiki (sp?) recently posted a particularly great video on how to grow your channel and I think it would save you time on editing. Your videos also bounce on time, which isn't great for the algorithm or repeat viewers.. I loved this episode as a sub-series. More!!! Hope to catch you tomorrow!
Found it... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Q7ydrEIUD8k.html Worth 10 minutes (he starts talking RU-vid at 5:00), I think it may save you a great deal of time. You also likely have some great car stories if you can ever make it to Atlanta. That's one way to use a real thumbnail and throw a huge title.
In an Atlantic crossing (for example), do you cruise 24/7? Is there ever a time (excluding repairs) in the open ocean when you would drift or in some way stop cruising to the destination?
