@@rlvideosgunner Also worth mentioning, they had a huge amount of part supply, and the cost to make the NES was dirt cheap by the time 1996 came around. There were also still many countries that barely had video games at all for various reasons, so Nintendo had an uncontested market for several years.
You can still buy a Master System in Brazil. It’s just blue and has all the games built in. It’s a proper console too, not an emulated mini consumer. 80’s technology baby!
@@sillypawpals so what? It doesn't matter, a lot of people buy ps4 because of exclusive games, wii had the nintendo games that are actually good, mario kart is the one of them
@@sillypawpals Lmao we can see you don't know how many masterpieces released on the Wii I'm quite sad for you for not knowing that Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart Wii, Animal Crossing City Folk, TLoZ Twilight Princess, and so many more released on this masterpiece console.
@@sady3327 its really sad that I didn't miss the experience my childhood was very good i played alot of wii infact i still have mine the wii u sucked but the wii i played mario kart with my brother played and beat super mario galaxy and galaxy 2 batman brave and the bold sports resort and a few others so im pretty happy with what i got
I still play my Playstation 2 regularly. Tons of great games which have retained their appeal. The PS2 is like an old friend who's always there for you and still makes you laugh and smile.
@@underneonloneliness2 Today in 2021 I could say to you I really enjoy my Wii U, I owned a Xbox One and still owns a Wii U and PS4, the Wii U still manages to get more Exclusive and good games than the Xbox One. The problem is almost nobody understood what the Wii U was, the technology of the gamepad wasn't there yet like in the Switch.
My parents got an Atari 2600 as newlyweds in the late 1970s. When I was in high school about 20 years later, we found it in the storage unit, still in working order. My sister, my cousin and I had a lot of fun playing the old games on it!
That's also when the cheaper, quieter and massively smaller and sleeker PS2 slim came out so it was probably more likely that, but GTA no doubt helped though I would have expected that to be multiplat.
@@flapjack2330 That's only like half what a switch costs isn't? I'd rather have a real SNES but in terms of game costs your probably end up spending more.
What surprises me the most is that till 2002~2003 Nes/Snes consoles where still made and sold while the N64 production had already stopped. This shows how important these consoles where even after 20 years.
Everyone is talking about the PlayStation or Nintendo consoles but I am most impressed with how long the Atari 2600, a console from the 1970s, hung in the top 10 best selling consoles well into the 2010s. It’s like an iron man royal rumble performance, an early entrant staying to the near end. Kudos to that console. I wondered how gaming was back in the day. I played the NES at my cousins and I bought my first console at university, the ps2, and it changed my life. I bought the ps2 and Xbox at the same time to see which was better, I enjoyed PlayStation games more so I went with that and never looked back. I eventually owned the ps3 and PS4. My favourite games are gta San Andreas and resident evil 4. PC is just as good too especially for first person games like return to castle wolfenstein.
The Atari 2600 sales is by far the most impressive of anything here. The thing was still getting sold massively coming up on 1990 when the super nintendo was almost out. The atari is literally dots and blips and was still selling when more of a night and day difference in graphics than any other stretch in video game history was seen. If this chart is accurate that is...
@justaPERSON The first game to have 3d graphics is Battlezone, which was made in 1980, but the first 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗲 to have 3d graphics is the SNES, which was released 4 years before the PS1.
Agree but no ones perfect and to have one good console out of Sony's other great consoles. MS cant even make it in to the top 5 and never will. At least with a PS5 & a Nintendo Switch out there. That's why MS is going in a new direction being cloud gaming only. MS just cant compete with Nintendo & Sony. So MS is going to go compete with the Google Stadia with hopes of MS finally winning something. Edit: It would be funny if the Stadia did better than MS in cloud gaming, but I know that wont happen. MS cloud gaming is good.
I'm going to feel old in 2030 when people start having nostalgia for the PS4,Xbox One,Wii U,3DS,PSVITA the same way we look back at the Xbox,PS2,GameCube,DreamCast,GBA nowadays.
The original Magnavox Odyssey was pretty amazing. No digital microprocessor; all analog circuits. It had interchangeable game cartridges, but no electronics devices inside of them, just jumpers from one edge connector to the other, to engage different circuits.
It was all about making voltages change at a certain rate to make things move at a certain speed on the screen and using voltage comparers to detect that something on the screen hit something else.
@@jamesnelson5618 I like Sega is there any problem with it? By the way I like Sega not just because of Sonic or their ads against Nintendo, I like their franchises in general, and even if most of them are gone, there are new ones. Please dont start calling me names or judge me for that. Also I like Microsoft since the consoles that I have owned are from them, and I havent been disappointed by them yet. What do you like?

The PS2 will remain supreme for at least another decade. The next gen consoles (PS5/XboxSX) will only be around for 5 years. Sony has already stated that the PS6 will be coming out in 2025. I highly doubt that the PS5 or Xbox Series X will surpass the PS2 in 5 years.
@@CurbUrEnthusiazm I don’t think Sony will switch to 5 years till ps6. If they want to have better sales, sell the console for longer. It’s unlikely to happen even if they announced it, they will probably stay to atleast 7 years
@@CurbUrEnthusiazm Yeah I agree. PS4 might have a chance of overtaking it. Or Switch more likely. Consoles usually break the records a little while after their successors have come out. It will probably be taken over by some Chinese console when that appears.
Just want to point out that different consoles will randomly just pause during this. Where do you get the information and how do you organize it like this?
It could be a potential that I wish it could happen. If sega lowered the Saturn price to or lower than a ps1. Sega could've had it's lead. The dreamcast could've been a hit. But the developers were stuck up about sega that they moved to sony which killed them off. Nowadays, Sega has more of a mind of surrendering to a game franchise like Atari and namco. Basically trying to kill off their franchise. Then Sonic's franchise just turned into a equatment of stick it to your face. From awful games (sonic 06) to fan upsetting crossovers (Mario and sonic Olympics series) even towards longtime mario fans that knew what sega or sonic did. And crossovers with already dead game mascots (banjo kazooie racing 3d all stars) The best during the era was unleashed, colors, generations, lost world. And the best one, sonic mania. I'd say Sega should've have better instead of declaring bankruptcy. But instead, just Making most of their games just wasteful cash grabs that sega wants to compete with large game workers like xbox and playstation is just upsetting to look at as it go to waste, after they don't make consoles anymore. Ive been a Sega user that had all the consoles and portables for about 28 years first playing mega drive as an 4 year old. And I believe they'd tarnished the company already. I wouldn't say that Sega would get back into console wars. But won't do absolutely nothing. The sonic movie was okay and I'm okay waiting for the 2nd one. But I would just get a bad feeling that they're trying to pull a bad mistake that they shouldn't have done. Like Rivio with angry birds. Also. I have loyal respect towards the sonic fanbase and very respectful and focused everything sonic related. Sonic games tried hard after 06 disaster. Like sonic unleashed, colors, etc. I'm also been an sonic die hard since the mega drive when I was 4. Nothing against. And i still am. Making fanart and stuff.
To those who are confused on what year you are at (because this video, a year starts at July and ends in June). Basically, the July-December months are on year earlier. Because this video ends in June 2020, and we still saw July-December 2020. Which is actually 2019, because when this video was made, we haven't got to those months yet in 2020
It is fun watching this and at the same time see accurate sales results. I didnt know the 1st playstation sold more units than the Wii? I thought Wii was number 2.I see that when Nintrndo focused from Power to being different, their consoles sales increased. And Switch could be at 60 million by now nearly close.to NES
Nintendo was cursed:Every time they release a new console it would sell less than the acient one Then wii came and broke it only to return in wii u to then be broken again by the swich(Im not counting the portable consoles)
I remember when I was little boy, my parents said they would get me the Atari 2600 on a certain date. That day came, and my parents had not gotten it yet. I cried on the stairway, like the spoiled brat I was.
@@captain_rex_yt4490 Let’s just say that when The Facts of Life was in its first season, I was in first grade. In their second season, I was in second grade, and so on and so on.
I wish I could do something where no more ps5 or console videos pop up, I still have a ps2 😢 I first was thankful for having it then after seeing videos I feel jealous
I recommend a Wii U. It's cheap now and you can easily hack it to install emulators and *games you totally bought legally online*. It can emulate a PS1 and older consoles but you can also inject ROMs to play them on the virtual console. It's the most underrated console of all time.
In 1975, chip maker General Instruments started making "consoles on a chip" devices, with several games built in (no carts). A large number of companies made cheap systems based on this; all basically the same. So many different brands that in the late 70s that they hardly showed up in the best seller lists
Great video!! I've either played, owned or currently own most of those; including NES and PS2. PlayStation 2 was ahead of its time, the console itself, is still my favorite, PS is my least favorite. I still play PS2 games once in a while... they made great games during that era, considering the comparison with today's technology. Still remember the first day I played the first PlayStation in the nineties... this was groundbreaking. I remember the intro to Demolition Derby, my friends and I all thought it was the TV!! We were having a blast just watching the introduction!! Yeah, imagine going from SNES to PlayStation... it's a day I will never forget.
My first console was Sega Master System with Alex the Kid in Miracle World game built in the console, that was the only console I can afford in the 1980s.Then it was the Super Nintendo with Street Fighter 2 and then the Playstation 1 with Resident of Evil 1,2 and then Playstation 2 with Resident of Evil 4.And now I am too old to play with consoles.
