There are few athletes or artists more fun to watch than Prince Naseem. I don’t care if his career didn’t reach its full potential, he moved in ways that seem impossible. One of the most badass fighters of all time.
His amazing career and talent aside, it is heartbreaking to hear that Naz and his coach couldn't reconcile. Not just for the sake of his career, but just on an emotional, human level.
I'm huge Naseem fan but the old man rip was right not to reconcile, he didn't just train Naseem, he was his father, his mentor, his trainer, made Prince and sadly Naseem let the money and lights forget the most important thing that makes a man great, that's staying down, being loyal
I met Naz after the sad defeat to Barrera at the Northern General Hospital when I was a junior doctor treating his uncle dying of cancer. He looked depressed and the swag had diminished. We had an intimate chat about his uncle who he cared for deeply . A good person deep down that was humbled in defeat.. I cherish the memories of watching his fights when I was studying at Sheffield medical school . Respect to Naz and a great analysis by this channel . 👊🏼
Fantastic video. I think Naseem and Roy Jones Jr are two of the most physically talented fighters of all time. Absolutely insane reaction speed and power. Absolutely phenoms :)
I haven't watched the whole video yet, but I wanted to write this so I don't forget, Naseem fighting style with his hands down inspired a character in Hajime no ippo, Bryan Hawk. I noticed that immediately when watching the anime.
@@LawrenceKenshin chould have but had demons. And that he cut so much weight that enjoy his food. The day stopped fighting I grew to 6 foot from his height after 29 I’m not that close 35.And put on 28 kg of muscle I may go back to mma
My most fav fighter growing up loved his fights on Saturday night on ITV unreal skill awesome talent. Some of the punches he pulled off I've never seen replicated til this day.
Good comparison, I also put them together in the same group, both had so much more talent than thier foes while at thier peaks, they are my favourite boxers by quite a way.
I got so happy when I found out you made a video on this guy. I'm not the biggest boxing fan but I've always loved watching his highlights on youtube or insta. I learned from this that your arrogance will destroy you no matter how good you are. Conor McGregor is also another example of this.
We argued on this in FB. He lacked so many fundamentals. But he was SO phenomenally gifted in every sense that he didnt have to rely on many fundamentals to rise to the very top. At least until he fought a supremely well schooled fighter who had the chin to handle his counters. You tried VERY well to sell the Prince as technically schooled. But, for once, it didnt work. Still, he remains legendary anyways. That way, it still works.
I haven't left a comment in a while so here's reminding that your breakdowns and general knowledge and love for martial arts has an incredibly positive impact on many, many more people than you can imagine. Thank you.
@@LawrenceKenshin yeah i realized that like half way through but chads don't delete comments *shrug* Love your shit man . I think I've watched every video at least twice . And I have brought great shame on my family . *Seppuku intensifies*
Nice video on the Prince, better than others on youtube. The way he moved made it looks like boxing was easy, he was a real genius at boxing... or was his coach the genius...
Um hey man I don't know whether you know how far your rich is but I'm a 17 year old kid in Nigeria and this really inspired me to be a better person,THANK YOU SO MUCH.
entertaining, natural power, angles he threw shots from was stunning. the power of a welterweight hurt his hands, the money and fame was his downfall, but great all the same. greatful to have seen him.
Prince Naseem is among the youngest boxers to go pro at 18. He boxed till he was 28 when he retired. That ten years straight fighting -training pretty much non -stop. He made HUGE paydays, when anyone reaches the top of their profession they lose the animalistic drive to be on the top. Add the loss of his legendary trainer making him sharper. Like Prince Naseem or hate him his skill was among the greatest pound for pound.
How does one rationalize calling Naseem a fraud when he stepped in the ring time and time again against anyone who dared to fight and won? If they did not like him on a personal level, just say so, because his skills were undeniable.
Great breakdown as always 👍🏻 I’d forgotten his 2 punch destruction in his first defence which was UNBELIEVABLE! Has that ever happened before, in any Championship match? In any discipline? I don’t think so and would love it if anyone knows of any matches where it has 👍🏻 IMHO, coming back from a loss isn’t how I define ‘legendary’ fighters. Sure, it’s a feat most (including Naz) cannot accomplish however, the idea is to WIN not LOSE. I respect Naz for realising his career was over when he retired. That takes some guts and shows a high level of maturity. I would’ve been disappointed if he continued and likely won/lost in equal measure, which we see more often than not. That would’ve watered down what he did achieve and blemish his record. He literally destroyed everyone matched with him and in such a flamboyant way. George Foreman summed it up perfectly when he said: “This is some kind of Champion who sits and offers his title available and all the contenders say ‘No.’ It’s unheard of”. That right there is more than enough to confirm his ‘legendary’ status. Thanks again 👍🏻
Naz is the age-old story of someone with freak-level talent and skill losing to their greatest opponent: themselves. Just like his coach said "be nice to people on the way up, because you'll meet them again on the way down". You can be arrogant and crap all over people when you're on top, and they've just got to take it. But noone stays on top forever.
Loved Naseem fight. The whole package was amazing from ring walk till the post fight interview. Always thought he chickened out of fighting Barrera again but in hindsight I think he done the right thing walking away from boxing. Shame him and Brendan never made up as life is too short. Great video Lawrence. I’m still waiting for the breakdown of Kaman vs Hoost 2. 😉
What people don't realize is that he was done waaaaay before the last few fights he did. He didn't train or prepare for them. He had lost the fire in his belly and was totally out of boxing and you can see that even before the Barrera fight. He simply got domesticated and lost the hunger for it.
‘Fundamentals + creative freedom’. 💯 People often forget the ‘art’ in martial arts. People often ask ‘would that technique work in a fight?’ If you have the acorns to try and the confidence ANY technique can work. But. Not anybody can do any technique. There are levels, of course.
Nas and RoyJonesJr were the most spectaular of the modern era to me, I hold both in such high regard due to making other elite Boxers look so unskilled and unworthy of even being there, like they were doing a different sport to their opponents.
Nothing like those guys THOSE GUYS FOR 1 ARE LONG TERM CHAMPS. He came up against a mexican who exposed him and showed his styles flaws yeah great entertainer but lets be honest Britain hasnt historically been known for that especially at that time this is why Connor mc tapper cleaned up because of personality
There was a behind the scenes documentary on Nas for the Barrera fight shown on UK TV at the time. It was really good. Nas had replaced most of his team with friends and family members, and was more worried about what colour the gloves were going to be than fight prep. I might be mis-remembering but I think he got embarrassed by his sparring partner as well.
The man is a legend, he got fans interested in the lower weight classes and paved the way for lower weight divisions to receive a higher purse. All the money was in the heavyweight division until Naz came along
How could they call him a fraud if he had already defended his world title multiple times¿ And another example of how much a good coach takes part in the success of a fighter.
Wished prince had a youtube channel... You give great content.. i appreciate you.. how much money do you spend on these clips? Did any go to prince... ?
It is the first time I disagree with one of your videos - I strongly dislike the arrogant side of Naseems showboating style and would rank for example Roy Jones Jr. as a much, much, much more spectacular boxer.
@@LawrenceKenshin Because during "The Troubles" in Northern Ireland - he Rose above all that ..... and proved he was a boxer and also that people could transcend above just religious hatred...
Barrera took his career 🤷🏻♂️ and didn’t the dude buy most his fights ? No hate truly curious. I think I remember Barrera just sweeping him after he hit the locker room for 30 min trying to get him psychologically.
