Hard Truth is a find, so thanks for turning me on to that…but 3 of these I have never seen in the wild…it can’t be underrated if you can only get it on the secondary market for triple MSRP!
10:48 not sure who is sleeping on 4R SB BPs… they weren’t hitting Washington for a few years but now I pick them up every time I see a recipe I don’t have.
Just picked up the Chattanooga Spring 2019 BiB today and have two Founders 11th Anniversary on the way...also love their cask strength and rye. Actually drinking MM BEP and Hard Truth Rye B5 tonight. So much caramel on the nose on this batch of Hard Truth and it has a nice floral, fruit forward finish and does not drink like a rye at all even at ~116 proof. Big fan of it and agree it is underrated! Cheers!
I agree with you on the 4R SiB. Because they are available and a bit pricey, it keeps them off the secondary/flipper market. They are solid and I mean every recipe. I like the way 4R does things.
I don't know what you're on about with the Four Roses single barrel barrel strength bottles. I haven't seen one in 2 years, and that's shopping in multiple states. Pretty sure those nor the Four Roses limited release is underrated at all. Also I didn't even know the Old Forester SiB 100 proof existed. Not sure how anyone can underrate something that they don't even know exists.
I have proofed down a bottle of my OF SBBS before, not down to 100 proof, but to around 120 from the 138 proof I bought it at. It tastes better slightly proofed down and it doesn't drink anywhere near as hot as it did.
In my area, the Old Forester single barrel ANYTHING is a unicorn. I just wish I could find one to try! The Swilled Dog cask strength is phenominal and I had never heard of it before. Now I search for it.
They stopped carrying the single barrel beam for some reason in Northeast Ohio at my store which is a grocery store but they doubled the amount of black beam maybe they are having issues with selling the extra aged? And unfortunately we only get the cask strength makers have yet to see any of the wood series makers. Great choices wish I could get some of these. Redemption is just MGP juice and like many others that use that mash bill is just good stuff.
pretty sure they meant compared to other LEs. Its def held high but secondary-wise its not even double msrp, which when you think about BTAC, Pappy, Bday bourbon, that's nothing.
Agree on Chattanooga BIB. I like Maker’s Mark BEP and bought a backup. Then found 2 MM 46 Cask Strength and bought 2 of them. Was so-so on 4 Roses then bought the SB Barrel Strength OESK and OBSO. Pretty darn good. I have 4 bottles of OF SB BP bourbon, but have never seen the OF SB 100 proof. I think Cooper’s Craft 100 Proof is very underrated, along with Redwood Empire Pipe Dream. 🥃
Thanks men! I am really looking forward to this year’s LE release! I don’t think I’d even heard about Four Roses SBLE until I saw one of Bourbon Kingdom’s vids!
I feel obligated to say this every time I see 4 Roses SiB on any list. I have purchased exactly one 4 Roses product, it was a SiB based off of every review I have ever seen, it should be good. It is the absolute worst liquid I have ever put in my mouth, absolute garbage. To the point I refuse to buy any other 4 Roses bottle/pour, I don't even think I would take a sample from anyone. Tasting notes at first sip were grass clippings and soggy mushrooms. As it opened up, the grass clippings became cilantro, the mushroom note stayed, and simple syrup made an appearance. I only keep the bottle so I can give samples to people I don't like. Is it a bad barrel, probably, will I knowingly drink another 4 Roses product, not a chance.
With 4🌹s always check the bottle to see which tier it comes from. 5&6 are the best to get your single barrels. So when you look at your bottle it should read left to right (Warehouse, side of warehouse, Rick, tier and position) Ex: S N 46•3A meaning it came from tier 3
I passed on Jim Beam SB because the last one I had was a smidge too peanutty. Now who has underrated 4 Roses SB Barrel Strength?! In my area they’re highly coveted and if there is one it is often $90 before tax at retail.
Dying to try Hard Truth. Not in NC at the moment (that I know of). Also, been in the bourbon game for 8 years, I have NEVER seen a 4 Roses SB cask strength in NC. Not one time. Another bottle I need to head to KY for. Love you two knuckleheads! God Bless you guys!!!
I agree with the Very Old Barton as long as its the 100 proof. I also like the Jim Beam Single Barrel. They remind me of Baker's 7, just a little rougher around the edges. For some reason, Four Roses and Old Forester do not appeal to my palate like they do to yours. I bought another 4 Roses Single Barrel the other day because y'all seem to love them and I figured I would give it another try. I was underwhelmed again. I have never seen an Old Forester Single Barrel except for the Barrel Strength. Cheers!
Did you buy the regular Four Roses Single barrel or the barrel strength one? The regular one is available all the time, the barrel strength one's are ghosts in every place I ever shop.
@@red5standingby419 I bought the regular 100 proof single barrel. I saw a barrel strength recently, but I passed on it. Would have bought it if I had a better history with 4 Roses.
never seen a four roses LE for less than $500 in person 🥲 after trying different releases at bars I wouldn't pay more than $300 for one, and the same goes for ER17
