King's X & Mother Love Bone, both stone cold classics!!

I really like Detonator as well, it's very underrated. People say Ratt were 'on the way down' and comment negatively on the Desmond Child connection. I discovered Ratt late and I listened to their first five albums all at the same time, they were all new to me at once. Comparing them like that, I found I enjoyed Detonator the most, even ahead of Out of the Cellar which is usually the one people say is their classic record.

Detonator is not a bad album by any stretch. But it lacks the grit of its predecessors.

Brendon love the topic, I have eight of the ten mentioned. Like to see part 2 on this topic with another 10 albums. I searching out 16 other albums to complete the studio albums of Alias, Robert Plant, Reo Speedwagon, Styx, and ZZ Top. You are helping me spend my resources into the collection. LOL! All awesome picks!

I like pretty much anything Robert Plant has done. I think his solo career is excellent and I really admire the way. He’s branched out to different genres side of a true musician who wants to progress
@treff9226

Well said! Plant is a musical chameleon, he is always looking to advance his sound and try different styles. Plants solo career has been nothing but impressive - as a major Zep fan, can't say the same about Jimmy Page, who is my all time fav musician! Jimmy just hasn't put out music like I thought he would, at least not for quite awhile.

I think "Brick by Brick" was Iggy's most underrated album. I was lucky enough to see this tour at Numbers in Houston in early 1990. Also, I got to see an unknown band open (Alice in Chains) who rocked the entire "Facelift" album before it had even been released. What a night! Iggy as always gave 110%.

Interesting picks, i think the whole damn catalog of Kings X is criminally underrated. I'm not sure about the NY pick, I think Ragged Glory is ranked pretty high among Neil's albums, with his fans and critics. Although not done in the 90s, the one I would pick would be Psychedelic Pill... one of his best latter day albums that I think a lot of fans ignored.
@treff9226
@treff9226 3 месяца назад
Psychedelic Pill was prime Neil Young! And yes, I think it didn't get the acclaim it deserved! Diggin' all the Neil stuff coming out from his vaults.

@@JohnMacRae23Love PP. Second only to Greendale in my humble opinion. I saw them on PP tour but never got to see a performance of Greendale ( much to my chagrin). It's what comes from being a UK resident I guess.

Excellent video. Neil Young's Ragged Glory was the standout amongst the listed ones, i.m.o.. It's highly regarded (godfather of grunge), but gets overshadowed by the 70's catalog I have found the 1989-1992 time period to be an untapped gold mine for rock music in general.
@arto2533
@arto2533 3 месяца назад
I do enjoy everything from Freedom to Mirror Ball (1989-95) immensely, but after the release of Archives II box, I'd say the 1974-76 is the gold mine period for Young. Just a ridiculous amount of great songs and only about half of them were released at the time.
@guarddl9522
@guarddl9522 3 месяца назад
@@arto2533 Yea I meant the 1989-1992 period for rock music in general. 70's definitely is Young's gold mine era.

Hi Brendon. Great video. ❤ I know 3 of your presentations. That'll be Iggy, Zz & Neil Y. Just love those albums and they mean a lot to me. With underrated you mean within the tighter fan-community? I never thought of those 3 albums as underrated, but know what you mean. I'll definitely check the other ones out. Thanks again. Cheers from Henrik/Copenhagen

Underrated by the general public as a whole but even when fans rank albums these seem to be very low in the countdowns.

Yes I have his whole catalogue including Zombie Birdhouse. It was hard to find up until a few years ago when it got reissued. I think his latest album which is produced by Andrew Watt is one of his best. But my favorite is his album with James Williamson called Kill City.

Saw ZZ TOP at Milton Keynes in UK on Recycler tour support was Bryan Adams (his debut outdoor show in UK the day before he hit No.1 with "Everything I Do..." on UK singles chart and stayed there becoming the longest run at No.1 for that year. Also on bill was The Law, Thunder and Little Angels. Great memories of great day.

I saw the band on the follow-up album for the Antenna Tour with Jackyl opening. That was a good show when they were still doing the full stage show with all the gimmicks like spinning guitars, moving sidewalks, and showgirls.

1990 was a good year that still had very polished production but not so glossy it was cheesy like some of the stuff from the 80’s. It was a good balance and transition time.

Robert Plant and Neil Young - both rock giants issued great records in 1990! What a year :) Although "Ragged Glory" is/was not underrated. It was concidered the blue print for grunge that was still pretty much underground in 1990 (Mudhoney, first Nirvana album, Soundgarden ...).

I’m much more of an alternative fan so love the shoutout to Mother Love Bone, but one that I think should be added is Drivin’ N Cryin’ - Fly Me Courageous. Not a bad song on that entire album and one that just puts me in a good mood when I listen to it.

I don't know whether these 1990 records are "underrated," but check these out: * Riot - The Privilege of Power * Samhain - Final Descent * Hellion - The Black Book * Scatterbrain - Here Comes Trouble * Blind Guardian - Tales from the Twilight World * Chastain - For Those Who Dare * Forbidden - Twisted into Form * Gamma Ray - Heading for Tomorrow * Tony MacAlpine - Eyes of the World * Manilla Road - The Courts of Chaos * Morgana Lefay - Symphony of the Damned * U.D.O. - Faceless World

Some of these I have, not crazy about the REO album but it has some moments on it. The Styx album I liked more back then and saw them on that tour, and I have seen every version of STYX now to date, but it does not hold up for me, its almost a Dennis solo record from the 80's though this was the 90's, JY phoned in his track, Glen Burtnik was good never fit in IMO, "Show me the way" honestly rose because of the radio mix of "war letters" from the first Iraq war so it really is doubtful that would have hit had it not been for those circumstances, a few songs are OK here and there but much like "Brave New World" in 1999 which was like three solo albums mashed up, this is almost a Dennis left over 80's solo record. Luckily his solo albums the last three he did were top notch better than anything any STYX guy did solo, and the last two STYX albums with Tommy and Lawrence have been stellar.
