I agree. I think a big reason it wasn't chosen is that it was part of a set and Dave had to choose 2 different artists. If it'd been 1 artist to do 2 designs, I think that would've won, no question

@@Jrez Exactly. Craig made the idea of lucky rabbits foot/unlucky rabbit, but someone else did that 7with the rabbits foot wrapped around it. That could've been perfect. I think Dave just likes his goth images though. I have a hard time thinking of a dark version of what lucky could be.

The rabbit design is to me, what a tattoo is intended to be- something clever, artistically creative, and with meaning. It was also drawn significantly better than any other rough draft presented in that amount of time. I understand how he couldn’t be chosen for both, but the others visually and thematically had no chance…sad to see wasted potential.

@@Agamemnon2 hell I went to my tattoo guy with Craig's idea and he created his own interpretation of if and I absolutely love the tattoos. Its such a simple idea when you think about it but when I told my artist about it it was like a light bulb moment where he was like "why the fk didn't I think of that?" LOL

I’m in the same boat as you here! But I’m an illustrator, so I’m assuming this is just a different type of drawing and that I wouldn’t necessarily know what I’m looking for. I do know that just because something looks like a good picture doesn’t mean it’ll make a good tattoo. (There’s also no accounting for taste, though, and I personally find many of the designs horrendously tacky.)

I kinda understand what she was trying to say, but it's really more shape and location of shapes in relation to each other rather than size and proportion that makes cartoon styles recognizable. Like it's not the size of the beak in relation to the eyes and head that make a cartoon owl look like an owl, it's the shape of the head, the shape of the beak, the location, etc.

Jason needs to realize perspective is a thing too lol. Hit the proportions with a somewhat downward angle, and the large head and eyes would still be proportionate.

12:12 Are we looking at the same thing?? That grenade is super OUT of proportion. The 3d squares are not consistent in size and same goes to the width of the grenade, especially towards the bottom.

Wait yeah wtf, the pin apparently completely distracted everyone from the fact the squares are all way off, maybe that's why whoever mentioned it immediately so nobody would explore the grenade itself before jumping down to the bottom with their eyes. I guess they were just looking at or referring to the proportion between the pin and grenade? Because the proportion of those squares is crazy inconsistent. It really doesn't seem like that can be explained by the shape of the ankle/shin either, it's pretty flat there.

I don't think it's fair that the judges can force the contestants to tattoo each other. Yes they designed their own tattoo's but I don't think it's right that they are being forced to get a tattoo they might not want.

I hate when artists say "well I'm not experienced in this style" or they excuse a tattoo that doesn't follow the challenge with being in their comfort zone. This isn't a competition on how well you stay in your comfort zone or how unexperienced you can be. Why would you go into a competition, striving for a title of being the Ink MASTER if you're not experienced (even a little bit) in other styles?? I know they're making excuses but it's also the fact they think the judges will let it go because they're inexperienced, so dumb

It's better for them to be honest if they aren't skilled in an area instead of bullshitting and then fucking up a canvas. So no it's a good thing if they try to stay in their lane but also they should learn how to at least how to do other styles

@@jaeceleste3877 my point is they want this title that means they’re great at everything, the judges describe the Ink Master title as such all the time, and yet they still go to these competitions fighting for this title while only being good at one or two things. Remember that one artist who constantly did new school with the big bubbly eyes and buck teeth? Sure it’s great they’re honest but they also expect being inexperienced will give them a pass or the judges will go easy on them

I ask the same type of questions when I watch RuPaul's Drag Race and the queen can't sew a lick even though that's been a type of challenge since the very first episode of the series. I'm still floored on how many say, I don't know how to sew on a show that is going to make them sew something at some point.

I know right, that's what I was thinking. The proportions on that thing were INSANE! And not in a good way! The feet were so small, the legs seemed too thin when compared with the torso, the hands in comparison with the eyes... Not a fan. Also the face looked really off. I wouldn't mind it so much if it were a drawing, but it's a TATTOO! Shocked me overall; but hey if the client is happy then that's all that really matters, right?

Okay this challenge is wack. I'm trained in classicall art and the thing about knowing the rules so you can break them is exactly right. Also that ball tattoo was not about proportion but light and shadows. It shows what times restrictions can do to art.

No, the challenge was fine, it was some of the artists that couldn't pull it off. Artists should be able to do proportions right seeing as that's important lmao. As someone whose studied art for an extremely long time & is a professional, I follow my own rules & do what makes me feel comfortable, plus it doesn't help that I'm a perfectionist with adhd lmao.

The only thing I question is their proportion judging. Proportion can be done on cartoony or other styles but they're using realism as "proportion". I only say this because most of my art was realism which of course includes perfect proportions as that's how life works, but anything from anime to cartoons still have proportions. Regardless though if you really want to show your skill at proportion then picking realism is probably both the best and most basic style to show it. So it makes sense to favor the realistic ones over most other types.

20:55 I'm sorry man but joey's tattoo is proportions wise absolutely horrible. Definitely not the worst of the set (Tatu Baby in my opinion) but the only reason I can see for why it was received so well was because it was because the girl looked hot (which, she did, but that's not what we're grading).
