I own the Kilt and this video is incredibly helpful for me to understand how to shape tone and appreciate its uniqueness. Please do more live videos highlighting your own pedals. I learn so much from the JHS videos but it's always been a bit frustrating that you don't dive into your own pedals more often. I can appreciate your desire to be humble but we would learn so much more about the JHS pedals we purchase. Appreciate all you do on the JHS Show.
I second that, absolutely love that his humility gives us all the opportunity to learn so much about the pedal world and all that entails, would 100% watch all content to learn more about jhs pedals and their own unique traits as a JHS pedal owner.
This pedal rules! I bought one this year and it’s great. I had been searching for an overdrive sound that I liked- to no avail until I found the kilt! It’s my favorite by far .
I recently got this pedal on my board after my producer got me to try one out. It is....KILLER! I've got the JHS Red Box to go with it and this pedal is just something I never knew I needed but completely ADORE and use all the time! Thank you for making such a gem!
Love your demos like this with you explaining, playing and toggling around with different tones. Thanks Josh!! Lots of folks use this for their praise and worship boards and I’m considering myself.
I have several of your pedals and love all of them. Bought the Kilt nearly a year ago and yeah, it’s on a different level. Amazing. Most usable fuzz (as someone who doesn’t love fuzz). Thank you for saying out loud what I’ve been thinking since I bought it. Honestly one of my favorite drive pedals, period, so thank you for this gem!!!
Brilliant playing. I am impressed by what this pedal does. I tend to favor minimalist pedal boards. I would pair the Kilt with a Vertex Steel String and a single delay/reverb pedal, like the Eventide H9. As a consumer of pedal demo's most fail because they don't use the pedal in playing actual music. Josh's standard format with a drummer and bassist is exceptional. This video with Josh, a pedal, and playing 1-1 really knocked it out of the park. Josh, I hope you do more YT videos in this format.
Great guitar playing dude. I always get inspired by the jams. Whether it’s just you, or you and the boys. This pedal sounds rad. I just got an Angry Charlie about a month ago. I’m running an SD-1 into it, into a solid state power amp, and it makes for a beastly death metal rig. Cheers!
Thanks for collaborating with Stu G. Some of the tones you played were really reminiscent of his soaring, fuzz sound. Delirious were such a great band. So many brilliant songs.
No way I can’t believe as a delerious? Fan and a Jhs fan I didn’t know you had a STU G signature pedal !!!! Loved his guitar playing on all those delerious? Albums where they really started rocking out. I always loved his guitar playing on mezzamorphosis, Touch, and the access D live album. 3 of my fav albums ever and I was sad when they broke up as I don’t think there has been a band I liked as much. Never got to see them live. Well that’s settles it I have to have KILT now. Oh Josh I can’t believe I’m gonna have to buy another pedal … another dirt pedal for that matter !!! Awesome STU G Delerious? Pedal didn’t know it existed and it’s awesome that it does !! And thanks again for turning me onto Madison Cunningham love her songwriting and band ! Cheers ✌️🙏
You’re playing at the start was mesmerising dude. I need to get me a kilt, the spitting fuzz sound it seems to have when you hit the red remote is something else.
Damn Josh! That jam at 26:50 is intense and absolutely brilliant. You were definitely in the zone. Not sure if that's something you came up with in the past or right then in the moment, but either way it was, as the kids say, FIRE!!! 🔥🔥❤🔥🔥🔥 Also, I'd love to see a video of you doing a demo on your, Crayon, pedal. It's one of my all time favorite pedals and would be cool to hear about how it came to be.
The more I keep watching your shows, the more it becomes apparent that you're not just a pedal geek, you're a really excellent guitar player with attention to precision and subtlety in your feel and how you get the instrument to sound, and rightfully a tone snob... is the wrong word.. craftsman or artisan would be better... you definitely deserve that amazing collection of pedals and I love it that you actually play them and dont let them sit in a closet somewhere.
I have one of the original runs of the kilt double pedal. I got it when it first released and it hasn’t left my board since. Absolutely my favorite. Absolutely the best. Sounds incredible with every guitar and in every amp.
Super rad, Josh. I've never tried a kilt but have long been curious. (I once *wore* a kilt, to a friend's wedding in Glasgow.) This is useful in ways that typical "I'll run it through its paces" videos usually aren't - so thanks for really delivering here, as you always do.
I had the v1 Kilt. When the v2 came out I immediately sold the v1 and got the v2 with money to spare. No regrets as the v2 has the smaller footprint and the G2 via red remote is incredibly more practical in a live setting for me than the v1 boost was. I love this pedal so much I swapped the 3PDT switch in mine for a click-less (silent switching) one. I play at church and those clicks can be pretty loud for the people in the front since we’re on IEMs. I only mention this as I’ve only ever done this to two pedals as they are $15 switches and in my mind it puts the kilt in a “would never sell” category. Josh demonstrated perfectly today what an incredibly versatile pedal it is.
Just looked at the schematic -- it's really interesting that the gain settings are selected by switches in the feedback loop of an op amp instead of a potentiometer.
Trent Guitars is near Bournemouth / Poole in Dorset UK. Used to live near there. And the Dalek is a very British TV Sci-Fi robot invention thing from the 1960s. I used to hide behind the sofa when they came on. (I was a child)
I think i want one. All i have that i could compare it to would be an OCD pedal. I like the use of trem in the intro piece, i am honoured to be able to share in your journey bro. Your guitar playing keeps getting tastier as the years roll by. You even get a sort of psychedelic fuzz sound out of that overdrive pedal, that's unusual.
When you were demoing in beginning I thought “sounds like a Rat but squishier”. It’s cool that the circuit has similarities. Rats are my favorite all around dirt boxes. I bet I’d like this one :)
The Kilt took the spot my Rat had on my bass board for over a decade. The fact it can do Rat sound and Expandora is amazing to me. Favorite bass distortion, hands down.
I love how this pedal does this gated fuzz thing if you put your guitar volume at half and you put the gain knob at like 8-9 o clock and you put the volume and tone around 12 And Kick on the both gain stages. It's juicy. Such a great all around pedal it works for any situation. If you can only bring one drive pedal, it has to be this one.
It's worth it to be your own advocate. I completely glossed over this pedal in the past and didn't realize the depth of sound it can get compared to most other OD.
17:20 Detestivesque trailer. The Sound of Freedom, without the rilt drawing. Sounds incredible. It’s on my list. Like the Pack Rat I’ll delete the rst image, and the rat Word. Couple of JHS pedals on the list 👍🏽🎸. Josh’s not only an amazing pedal builder/designer, he’s an accomplished and versatile guitar player 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
This pedal absolutely nukes.. Being an idea with Stu G was one thing, but David Hislop blew this pedal up all over the worship genre. I have the Kilt V2, but I tried to get a V1 straight from Stu G through my buddy Nic Gonzales, but he didn't have any spares laying around lol.
DAMN! THis video started rolling on auto-play as I was doing the dishes and I was like WHAT THE HELL IS THAT! I'M BUYING IT ON VINYL!! So good, guys really. I was thinking finally someone released an album I want to listen to.
I fully agree it's JHS's most underrated pedal. I bought it 5 years ago and it has never left my board. For whatever my opinion worth, the Lucky Cat is the 2nd most underrated.
Love it! Im gonna have to get one of these. Some unrequested feedback… the red remote thing is cool but I would suggest ditching it and instead putting the Led in the center of the pedal, creating room for 2 footswitches. There might not be enough room inside to do this but just a thought. This would be one less thing to worry about on the board. Just one guy’s opinion of course… but hey maybe v3? Either way killer pedal 👏
I used to run three different overdrives on my board. Some I wouldn't touch depending on which guitar I was using. Since getting the kilt, I only use it and a fuzz for everything. It's such a solid pedal.
Mezzamorphis is a radical deliriou5? Record. Stu really rips hard in that one specifically on “Bliss”. The first 27 seconds are sheer mad genius! Much love to brother Stu!
Daaaaaamn. This thing sounds NICE! And all this time I thought it was just another frickin' TS. Oops! I may need this. And yes, the bass cut is definitely audible and probably useful even if you don't use several 4x12s.
Dorset is the best county in England. It's got a UNESCO protected coastline called the Jurassic Coast with the famous Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove; the Cerne Giant (enjoy Googling that); Dorchester has both a massive Iron Age fort (Maiden Castle) and Roman ruins; and the whole place looks like a fever dream of all your favourite period dramas come to life because of all the hills and posh houses. If lizard people existed then they'd all live there. Conversely, Hot Fuzz is a documentary to the people of Dorset.
@@ryanobenauer3451 cool! The order I run them is MG > Kilt > Tumnus through effects and to UA Ruby. I don’t gain them up a ton and typically leave the MG on and stack it with either the Tumnus or the Kilt. I like the Tumnus at the end because it give me a lift when I need it and holds up well to even fuzz blasting into it. How about you?
JHS pedals ... finally someone acknowledged the awesome Nigel Pulsford ... when i bought my Expandora i thought it might snow ... never seen another one here in South Africa since 😂
This pedal is my sound. For the longest time all drive pedals sounded the same to me and I couldn’t find one that got the tone I was hearing in my head. Then one day I tried it and I’ve been sold on it since. Funny enough I never use it as a fuzz. Only as an overdrive or distortion with the red remote. 10/10.
I forgot all about "Delerious?"! I listened to them a ton back in the day and got to see them live on the Glo tour. Amazing. Keep my eye on the market for a Kilt! ;)
Very Nice! Never realized the story of this pedal. Have you tried Decibelics mini pedal The Reverend? It's his take on the Expandora with all the fun switches.
the jam after he asks when england became a country sounds exactly like i wrote in 2019 lol. wish i could show ya josh, didn’t amount to much, was just a fun little instagram clip 🤷🏼♂️🤙🏼 haha
Dude absolutely this is gonna sound funny but I don’t know if JHS puddles sound that good but part of it is definitely the fact that I just really like Josh and the guys and how they carry themselves. It seems like it be an awesome place to work and I want to support that.
Josh, is there any concern over pedal order with the Fuzz setting of the Kilt, with impedance or whatever? Like is having it after a polytune with buffer turned on going to be an issue?
