My thoughts on the cyber security eye hacks: the issue with this mechanic when compared to good adventure games is that the first security eyeball appeared to you to just reset when you re-entered the room on the other side. So when the real issue was that you were just messing about investigating as one does in an adventure game, it was not obvious that this game mechanic was a race against time. Compare this to a good adventure game, like the monkey island series... I can't recall which episode it was, but in it Guybrush had to fill a mug with a beverage which would slowly melt the mug so that if you took too long to get it to where you needed to use it, the mug would melt away. But the melting of the mug had an animation in your inventory which allowed you to understand that you needed to use it quickly. This game has the timed-out event occurring off-screen. I think the sole reason why they put the second security eyeball in with a much shorter timeout was to give you the hint about the first one.

04:20 i watch this show so that i can enjoy adventure games without having to go through them myself, but at the same time i played through pulsar and the legend of the lost colony and starbound in their final forms in single player, and they were both singularly awful games that that were bad in ways that sort of formed two different and fascinating narratives of failure.

Machinations io which Leigh mentioned actually seems to also have a free version that's not very limited from the paid versions (1,000 components in action vs 1,500 and not being able to hide your project from others) The shrug at 34:00 kills me THAT ROOF

These old adventure games really have a verisimilitude problem, this character who grew up in the desert wasteland in a tribe of weirdos is perfectly able to impersonate an inspection officer, act as a lawyer, and is tired of the music in the jukebox.

you can rightfully smack talk this incoherent game and its forgettable ending, but beneath a steel sky will still AGE significantly better than Harold Halibut, that is just as incoherent, and that does not even dare to have any puzzles. just like all only-visually-great games tend to age poorly.
