I came across this little Moszkowski piece in an anthology of Romantic piano music. As someone who was previously only aware of his notoriously difficult Etudes de Virtuosité (Op.72), this piece is a pleasant surprise to me, and it really helped gaining more insight into Moszkowski as a prolific composer of utmost pianism.
Thanks for listening!
About the work:
Moritz Moszkowski (1854-1925) was a German composer, pianist, and teacher of Polish-Jewish descent. Ignacy Paderewski said: "After Chopin, Moszkowski best understands how to write for the piano, and his writing embraces the whole gamut of piano technique."
Although less known today, Moszkowski was well respected and popular during the late nineteenth century. '10 Pièces mignonnes' (10 Little Pieces), Op.77 was first published in 1907, and was dedicated to Mademoiselle Gabrielle Turpin.
