Jailbait he kicks ass. He was a unique drummer- Mickey Dee is great and can probably do any style as long as you need him to, but technically amazing players often don't have their own sound. Philthy did. The best Motorhead was just as much Philthy and Eddie as Lemmy. If there was one area to focus though that really defined the Motorhead sound, for me it would be Lemmy's swaggering, slightly clanky (in a good way-Rickenbakers!) bass locked in with Philthy's fast shuffle beats and tsssst! tsssst! hi hat action. Makes you feel like someone is sort of shoving you along, and I suppose they were! Haha. Perfect. :)
Unfortunately, he plays a DW kit or something here, or little time was invested in taking everything down better. Don't forget that the studio sound in the middle, end of the 70s simply had more warmer character than nowadays as well.
I never got to see Motörhead with 'Philthy' Phil, but I did see them when Mikkey Dee was behind the kit and to me, he was also a great drummer. And he had his own personality as well.
Listen to those killing drum rolls and fills, damn, in his own style NOBODY will EVER beat him !!! This guy was a total machine, never forgotten !!! R.I.P. master Philthy !!!
Lemmy claimed Phil was starting to speed up and slow down during shows....Phil claimed he stole one of Lemmy's girls. Whichever reason, Phil got fired in '92. Too bad Fast Eddie never got to play with them again as he said he really wanted to in a later interview. My favorite quote summing up Motorhead was 'they were the type of band that if they moved in next door your lawn would die'.
God he fuckin rules i swear man hes such a fuckin savage such a bad ass he has such a great fuckin swagger dirty grove amazing chops skill fuck man he doesn't get the respect he fuckin deserves!!!!!!, DEVILS GRIP THE IRON FIST!!!!♠♠♠♠♠👊💀👊
not even close. You might like him the most but ur comment is just ignorant. He's not even the best rock drummer and its the easiest shit ever to play.
@@TheJoshMaggot SURELY NOT AS GOOD AS THE BEST..GINGER BAKER...BUT WHOOOO-IS????HE JUST HAD THAT ABILITY 2 PLAY SO HARD N FAST 4 SO LONG...WITH THAT HEAVEY PUNK STYLE!!NUFF-SAID.
Motörhead toured with Ozzy Osbourne in 1981 supporting No sleep till hammer smith (a live album which was a cripple at retail at that time before MTV)when Randy Rhoads was still living with tommy Aldridge on drums and bob daisley on bass and had 2 albums out.
@bobi180985 funny how we see things...to me he is the ultimate heavy metal drummer....i am a guitarist and he's one of the few drummers i can really listen to along with ian paice
Funny old tidbit . . . the guy asking Eddie to talk about Chase, is JD Roberts from the New Music in Toronto. These days, He goes by John Roberts, and has worked at FOX News and CNN.
damn, he still can keep up to those songs....i have no problem mikkey dee but i'd like to see philthy animal back in motorhead, and that includes fast eddie clarke too
I was there pal, 80 or 81 ish. Saw Motorhead about 12 times, but never saw them after the Iron Fist tour. Once Eddie left to me their whole sound changed. Gibson's couldn't hold a candle to a Fender Strat.
Look mikkey is a great tight drummer but didnt have that loosey goosey hard rock n roll punk rockish style as phil did both great drummers but phil kicked fucking ass
Phil. - .“this was actually photographed on a sandstone-quarry in 'Ba....* , just outside 'L...* , and believe it or not,...that sky is real !! -»* City or region I think' -
