I admire anybody who takes back to control in their life when they feel like control is been taken out. By thinking carefully about what she and her family need she’s able to have her own house. Most people just want toomuch when they don’t even need it.
Glad I bought this one ru-vid.comUgkxT9ExVpR-3A-9rpRqx8vzXKZ3BMMTg_KH . I had a customer looking for a shed that didn't look 'prefab' and was rustic, but "cute" (her term). I showed her the cover of the book and, with a few modifications, she was sold. I've never built a shed but I do have some framing knowledge. The info on roofing is very helpful to me. I was also psyched that the section for the shed on the cover had measured drawings for the trim boards and keystone pieces for the gable ends and over the windows. Should make life a little easier for me.
That's adorable. Only thing for me is it would bother me not being able to stand in my upstairs and having to crawl everywhere. I'd ask for a higher ceiling or at least vaulted.
I would feel safer if the propane tank were installed outdoor. In her case, that closet where the tank is, should have the door facing outside of the tiny house while wall-sealed on the inside. I would leave enough vent room above and below the outside door so when there’s a gas leak through the connectors or valve, the gas can escape out. And yes, a couple of wood planks can be installed above the tank for more storage as long as they’re not flammable liquids or like kerosene or combustibles like clothing.
leapdrive I too was surprised to hear her say that she stored the tanks in the utility closet . Because generally those are kept either outside or in a storage compartment that opens to the outside only.
The only downfall I see and don't get me wrong I love this thing is you can't stand up in the loft and there would actually be room for that if the ceiling was lowered a little 🤷
I am still shaking my head, "how did she do that?!?!" Awesome awesome tiny house...love the the tiny house movement...your home is absolutely the bomb...wish I had the guts to do it...one would sure have to get rid of a lot of stuff...great way to cleanse one's self of unnecessary "stuff!"
Man this is 10/10 fantastic job on designing specifically for your life with your daughter. This kind of tailor-made approach is what going tiny is all about! We're going to follow on Instagram!
Evidently there is something about that phrase you do not understand. Whoever wrote it simply meant that watching the lady get into her hammock was amusing to them. There is nothing rude in that, and if you think there is, then you really need to grow a thick skin, because it is nothing short of stupidity to be offended by that remark.
Exactly, most of us people know what we have to do to survive, as a single mom of 3 ( all grown now) if I could have done this raising them in the 70's & 80's I would have, everyone is ok now so i'm blessed to have g-kids and great-g-son but boy would I LOVE to just do this!
@@KyaraExMachina -These ''houses'' have zero resale value. You people must be young and impressionable. When the daughter is 12/13 and wants to have her friends over ? -this is better suited for a single guy or retiree..
The Willow Tree is one of the best, if not THE best tiny house I have ever seen. This is pretty much my dream. To have and/or build and live in a tiny house, off the grid, AND have at least one dog and one cat. I think I will start saving now.
Lmfao girl when you got in the hammock ... for a minute you looked like a bat .. It's totally cool but i wasn't expecting that look ! Flippin funny ! Love your space ! It Rocks !
HAHAHA! I use that technique more when I am in the woods and I usually use the handles to just hoist myself up! It was just a quick impromptu move to flip in! So funny! You can follow me on instagram/facebook to see more of our journey!
I'm a senior too and I wonder why there appears to be no handrail on the steep stairs! Makes my knees ache just watching that. Also, it's a beautiful setting but how much does it cost to be where she is? Did she buy the land? Is she paying rent? In many areas, you can't just plop a tiny house just any old place ...
This is one of the best tiny houses, that I've seen. The aerial yoga part, is beyond great. One question: lots of Windows and light, which make it seem bigger. Are the windows double paned? Also, the tour was wonderfully done. Awesome tiny house.
I love the size of your bathroom and kitchen and I am happy to see that they are at opposite ends of the house and unlike many, I have seen that has them beside each other your hammock skills should be packaged and sold, lol, ...... thanks for allowing us into you and your daughter's home. shalom.
This house makes sense! Bathrooms in tiny homes are always so small! How can one get dressed in a loft? The kitchen on the OPPOSITE end! Yes! Do NOT want the bathroom at the end of a kitchen! Especially in a tiny house! Great job.
I really like your tiny house it is one of the best that I've seen. Sorry about all the flag that you're catching from just showing your house. Some people just can't say good things they have to bring you down to make themselves feel better. I hope everything is going good for you and your daughter.
Reality sets in no female needs to be in such an unsafe disadvantage. Her priority should be her daughter's well being--what if a couple of intruders break in? one at each end of that place?
kimmyjeans2 i didn't. She is living in a tiny space with two cats and a dog. The allergens 🤧 people filling up their lives with animals, no room for the daddy.
@pianoplaylist I agree. While I don't have anything against tiny houses. I don't see the problem with having tons of stuff. My stuff never bothered me. I feel it's been projected and repeatedly said on similar other videos that owning bunch of stuff is actually like that stuff owning you! I don't understand how exactly! Unless one wishes to travel their entire life, I don't see how owning stuff is a problem.
Wow!!!! I give you so much credit. Good for you. Brilliant design. You def have a lot to feel proud of. I wish I had half of your determination and skill. Your daughter is a lucky girl with a wonder-mom!
@@annmarie4794 I love design of house. It’s obviously designed for girls needs and fullfills her brief to builder. Ceiling amazing and I love kitchen looks practical. You can design tiny houses with ground floor living and just use upstairs for extra storage/office space. The answer is a well made although not cheap Murphy bed or you can have a gadget that lowers bed down from ceiling area mechanically. Basically tiny living at its best it about brilliant architectural design that suits individuals who have commissioned build. 😊
I really liked the design of your tiny home. I liked the idea of the loft and crawl space but I’d like the ceiling a bit higher. All in all, it’s very liveable. Well done.
This is the most functional and well-designed tiny house I’ve seen yet! Kudos to you, kiddo. I lived 60 years of my 84 years in Minnesota, and was delighted to see the sources of heat that assures you comfort during those cruel winter temperatures.
What are you, 12? If you watched the video you would have seen that the dog likes to sleep upstairs with the daughter. The getting sick in 5 years comment is sheer stupidity.
JJ - Yes, that jumped out at me too, as did the sharp corners on all the steps. I would strongly recomend rounded corners and/or rubber bumpers, and some sort of netting that angles upwards along the run of the stairs.
Tiny houses are cool but utilities and things are never mentioned. She has a compost toilet but where does she get electricity and water. Where does the gray water go?
This is so lovely on every level. I want to build tiny homes for a living, currently we build screen enclosures and aluminum structures but after seeing so many struggle in the aftermath of hurricanes like Katrina and Matthew etc , I decided we needed to do this. Everyone deserves adequate, affordable & safe housing. These videos that show single moms, elderly and those on a fixed incomes having their own homes and not starving just to pay a mortgage or rent, is a dream come true. I can’t wait to be in a position to help.
Stephanie, your home is so lovely! The huge windows, the ceiling, and that countertop are my favorites. I really liked hearing the purpose behind your design.
This was by far the best Tiny House tour I have ever seen. It was professional, precise, very explanatory, & very well shot. I couldn't believe the size of your kitchen & ur bathroom. They were amazing. I was more in awe of the fact that you designed the whole thing. You used the space so smartly. The design over the wheel well for the shoes was magic. My favorite part was the floor space for both sleep lofts. All that extra floor area. That was genius. I love your home I think I could live in one of those, if you designed it. I do want to know where your TV was? Typically there is a TV in the living area, but I didn't see one. I just saw a place to sit. Then I didn't see one in your bed areas. So where were your TV's? Again I love your house.
this is the best design Ive seen for a small family. we've a family of four, and Im always trying to imagine how to set up in a realistic functional way. You've really done well. good on ya.
Wauw...the way you get into that hammak...i am 71 and bad knees, use a sort off foottable under my behind, And then sit down in my hammak and push that little thing aside.......it works
Love how you named your cottage as if it were an estate! Very impressive kitchen! it's bigger than the kitchen in my house. Beautiful woodwork throughout.
I liked the lay out of your home.It truly looked roomy while keeping that tiny element going.I also would want a regular sized bathroom and the u shaped kitchen looks well thought out .Love how you utilized so many spaces to create space and give storage. How long did it take to build your home and might I ask a ball park cost figure ,if you don't mind.
A tiny house design using a gooseneck trailer would allow you to create a design where the bedroom isn’t a loft. You can even create three levels generally at one end of the house even without having a gooseneck trailer. There are many videos that show houses like that.
@@meiraloraduncan8953 ....and I was just wishing TODAY that EVERYONE would make their Tiny House with a Gooseneck. NONE of the lofts are high enough. I don't even know how MARRIED couples survive positionally.😁 *Edit: All Tiny houses should have MANDATORY Handrails for their stairs too. A catwalk is helpful as well....
One of the best tiny houses I’ve ever seen most are cramped but this one has a lot of room the kitchen is my favourite part it’s got so much room for food and people that pull out pantry is awesome!!
I've seen walkways in other tiny homes, but this place is laid out better then most. She concentrated on what works best for her and her Daughter, and in so doing, it turned out highly usable for them. I love that she planned out the kitchen, living room, and bathroom so much. She should be very proud of her results.
Thank you so much for the kind words! I am super proud!! I worked really hard to get the house designed and built and am looking forward to continuing to share my story and inspire others!
One of the best small house , you make me want to surrender my apartment for a great lay out like yours. You took time to think about space . I’m claustrophobic but this space was very well planned out , good for you and your daughter hope you enjoy your stay . Don’t forget the garden!!!!!
I love everything about your tiny house. Beautiful, open and bright. I like this better than any other tiny house I’ve seen. Good job. I wish you much happiness in it.
Stephanie, I love your tiny home! I was even more sold once you broke out the hammock, then the yoga trapeze. LOVE IT! My husband always jokes about moving to Minnesota. He loves the cold. 😄 I want to build my own tiny home on wheels here in FL. to move around the country. In~Joy your home, your daughter and really awesome space that you created. *Followed you on Insta 👍
Wow just wow-you are a great mom, pet owner, designer and an inspiration for girls everywhere! Kudos to you and wishing you and your little family peace and love.
Just felt her dog was cramped,in the loft. I was surprised at his size thinking she has a smaller dog. I would love to see the holiday decorating. Seems most tiny home owners are really outdoor and nature lovers. One video.showed a tiny house, but it was larger than most and beautifully designed with octagon windows and special display cabinets and drawers for her collection. So many unique ideas . Are there tiny home contest or awards? I have enjoyed, how we can live with less and be comfortable and energy efficient as well as living at reduced cost . Although the tiny houses are amazing, they are not cheap to build, but the long term cost seems to be worth the upfront costs. I also like the transformation of garages and sheds into guest homes. So inspiring and awareness to how we can utilize space and be comfortable. Thank you for such wonderful ideas.
Thank you so much! Even without children, the catwalk is great for pets!! Thanks for watching! Follow even more of my journey on facebook and instagram!
Two girls and a Tiny : My compliments to you and your daughter Milady! I think you are an intelligent, courageous and beautiful young woman! May the angels watch over both of you girls! A 1000 Xs and Os for these two Princesses from a distant goth boy! PS: Love your pink punk hairstyle by the way! 💜
I loved the first part of the video and the house is lovely, but when I saw the lofts where she must move walking on all fours I got a little bit shocked. Okay having a low ceiling but that's too much!
@@gayemoorefield9473 How do you vacuum when you can't stand up straight? Hard flooring can get hard on the knees but I think vacuuming on your knees would be worse.
This build is near perfect for a tiny house! My only concern is the daughter’s loft. She’s gonna grow taller real fast and her part of the loft won’t be functional anymore. I also can’t imagine if the daughter wants to pee at night.......
People sleep in bunk beds for ages. Some Navy ship bunks are 3 high and often the bathroom isn't next to you. She also states that they will deal with the ladder when she's older.
this is one amazing woman , giving herself and her daughter the best of living and being close to nature , I love how everything is compacted into this tiny space I will be following on face book
I don't think I've ever crawled around in a loaf, but seriously, the child, the cats and dog are all low altitude creatures. Mom has incentive dealing with the loft situation what little she does. This is a prime example of empowerment. There was a bit of planning for everyone's comfort and ease of habitation and I also find this BRILLIANT! Good job Mom!
@@cynchag5246 kids grow fast and cramped spaces is a huge no for kids. It has been a few years...either he kid is miserable when visiting, grateful it is part time....or she has a new house
I love this, with only a few little nitpicks: I'd need security screens and draperies for all those windows! Also, I love the pets, but it's too bad the cats have to eat and do their business in the same room!
I'm very impressed with your positive attitude and self sufficient life. If I was your age I think a tiny house would have been the way to go. Also live in Minnesota but from Wisconsin. So yes it gets cold here. Best of everything to you and your family!
I like how the necessary space is catered for more comfy living , while other areas are given sufficient space to be functional. One of the more well thought through tiny home I have seen.
Thank you so much!! I am so proud of the design and how well it turned out! It's truly magical to wake up every morning inside my dream tiny home!! You can follow my journey on instagram and facebook for more updates!
Two girls and a Tiny are you a designer by profession? You did such a great job, how do you know where to start with this? How to make it custom to fit your needs? Do you have to hire someone to make blueprints ?
Bright Night I have no design background at all but just spent time researching and just thinking about my life and what I value in my living space. I do work for Midwest Tiny Living and help other people design their homes :) we have a design team that turns peoples ideas into official blue prints!
I laughed so.hard when you got in that hammock , I wasn't expecting that. You were in a cocoon with only your face talking . Lol. Thankyou for that..I needed a laugh. 😅. Your house is beautiful, I wish I could do that someday as my house is killing me with payments and up keep..I am not living , just surviving and stress of bills NEVER leaves me .
Aspen Robinson yikes! That’s why I went Tiny so I could get out of such a tight finically spot. I’m still struggling because of my debt but this house will give me the best chance to pay down debt and free myself from a financial prison. My hammock is so awesome!! Hahaha
WOW, WOW, & more WOW! I have a lot to say, so brace yourself! : )) Firstly, I have to mention that you are an absolute INSPIRATION to single moms Stephanie! I, too am a single mom and I'm kinda feeling a little intimidated right now (in a good way!) You have made the perfect little home for your little girl, I love love love the name and it's actually kinda like a giant treehouse (as opposed to a "tiny house"), which I'll bet is just tons of fun for Elliot (not sure if I've spelt that correctly??) I'm sure your beautiful "tree house" is actually the envy of all of Elliot's friends, and the neighbourhood kids, cuz it just looks like SO much dang fun! You have managed to effortlessly tackle, probably one of the most difficult, daunting and expensive issues that most people have to deal with - paying for or owning a home! The fact that you actually OWN that beautiful home as a hard-working single mom just astounds me. I know that I've felt completely overwhelmed sometimes, to the point where I actually decided to move back in with my ex (my daughters Dad) because I just never had the courage that I think you have, to go at it alone! So all I can say is that I am a super impressed fan and I'm sure that there are some times in your life where you feel that things are difficult, like bringing up that precious tiny human to the best of your ability. I'd love to encourage you, from one "single" mom to another, and say that you are doing an INCREDIBLE job (I say single, cuz even though I do live with my ex again after we split, we do live completely separate lives. We're basically sharing a home to save on rent, and so that my daughter has both parents with her, but most of the parenting stuff falls on me to figure out, cuz my ex is disabled after a very serious car accident...thankfully we get along really well) It looks like you're doing the very best you can...I'd even say BETTER, than many parents I know who do have partners/boyfriends/husbands with them as a support. So a very big THUMBS UP and an even bigger GOOD JOB MOM to you! Secondly, Your design skills are CRAZY out of this world, you've totally killed it! I absolutely love every single aspect of your home. I think it probably has more awesome, beautiful design features than my boring, standard 3 storey home in England! Your creativity is a design feature in and of itself and I'm stunned at just how MUCH you've managed to add and create in the small space you have. Everything is just too beautiful! I hope that you and Elliot (spelling again?? sorry!) are very happy in your gorgeous little home, which, I won't lie...I'm kinda jealous of!!! ; )
"Amanda Russell" Yes really. Yet a lot of people who try the same would have very different results. Essentially it is like living in the wilderness in which you have to rough it out with very little resources. Maybe if you decide to completely live in the wild and eat only wild berries and drink water from a stream, not go to school, not hold a job, etc, then it is not as if you have to buy books and supplies and it is not as if you have to commute to a workplace and depending on what work you do, have the right kind of clothing ( if you work in an office maybe you have to have a business suit, if you work in a warehouse you might need good strong rugged work clothing) and it is not as if you have to go to certain stores to shop. Also if you don't isolate yourself in the wilderness you probably need to visit relatives and other people you know in another city or town etc. If you have to deal with civilization it can be a handicap partially living like you are back in the Pioneer times. But ultimately, you have to be healthy and able bodied enough to live in small quarters . If you have back problems you should not be bent over because of lack of headroom. Most people just need a more civilized lifestyle because they need the conveniences that civilization only can provide. Even if people live out in the country they usually need a car, a roomy house so as to maybe install one of those devices that carries you up the stairs in case you cant walk etc.
i think if it works out well for this family then it is perfect. after all they are the ones living in it. Also the best thing about tiny houses are they can easily grow with you. As her child grows, then they can always increase the ceiling height. it is much easier and cost effective to remodel/add on additions to tiny homes than normal sized homes.
Well if you consider that you really only use the bedroom for sleeping not too much happens in the bedroom so the Loft to me makes sense in terms of having that actual living space on the first floor. The cost of raising a roof is astronomical and if the point is to be there long enough just to save money and buy a bigger house then why put that extra expense into something that really isn't necessary. Tiny house Living Concept is about economy not so much luxury.
