Love Paul's acoustic numbers. So unique. I can imagine there's tons of these ditties around as he plays non-stop (the "work alholic"). Fun to play. Thanks!
I remember New Years 1968, the only album we listened to that night was the White Album, still one of my favorites. One month earlier Electric Ladyland released. I could be shipwrecked with those two, no problem!! Thanks James. 2021!!!!
Great song JamesJames! I love the Beatles catalog. It's amazing how many songs we really know by the Beatles that never got the airplay like some of their bigger hits! Can't wait to watch that new Beatles documentary coming out in 2021 "Get Back". 👍
With these "two-fingers-Paul" songs, I can never decide which I'm most comfortable with; picking with my middle (2nd) finger & thumb and strumming with my index, picking with my 1st & thumb and strumming with my 2nd, or picking with my 1st & thumb and strumming with my index- it usually winds up being picking with T&2 and strumming with 1. Thanks, great walk-thru!
You know I feel you on that but somehow the song sounds so clean and polished against all the golden slop on The White Album that it shifts me out of the AOR experience. Even up against Blackbird, Martha My Dear and While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Definitely underrated, but after listening to it, it can make switch from the Whte Albun to something else like say Ram. Not always, but it does have it's own gravitational pull. Just as Yer Blues and Cry Baby Cry, though not bad, both have a repellant buzz kill factor.
Thanks for all the videos, the great instruction and your easy manner. It is like sitting with a friend and playing. I picked up the guitar again after a 37 year hiatus and really enjoying playing again, its going to be my retirement hobby. Go Bills - unless you play the Browns.
Fantastic job JJ! Out of many, this is definitely one of my all-time favorite Beatles songs, if not songs in general. I appreciate you sharing your expertise! Good health and Happy New Year to you and your family, as well as to all!
HAPPY NEW YEAR, ALL MY FAVORITE SONGS, ALL THE TIME, BLESS YOU...IF YOU EVER TRAVEL TO N.J. AFTER ALL THIS COVID MADDNESS LOOK ME UP.. YOUR FUTURE COUSIN VINNY....
I just happen to be playing my Les Paul & thought of this song. Although I know most of it, I've been playing it wrong since I (thought) I learned in back in the 80s.... Thank you for doing this amazing song JJ... Oh, I ended up buying a well broken in 1993 Wine red Les Paul yesterday. Perhaps I'll mod it out like your old Pete Townshed model...
I added this to my list of liked videos. I have to say the biggest majority of videos in my liked folder are yours. I love your lessons and have learned a great deal from them. I recently bought a 12 string guitar and have played many of the songs that you taught on it. I've been trying to learn Firefalls song ( Goodbye I Love You ). What a cluster I have made out of it but I'll keep trying I've watched a few videos of them playing it but I'm just not at that level yet. Thank you for your time you've been so much more than kind. Your student John P.S. Happy new year 🎉
Hey JJ ~ Another great one! This is one of the gems you choose every now and then that I would never have even thought to learn but then it becomes a staple in my personal catalog. Many thanks to you for all the songs you’ve taught me from scratch or helped me figure out a part I just couldn’t get down. A very happy new year to you and yours and keep bringing the faceless tutoring in ‘21. Cheers!
This was the first song that I learned from your other website. It got me playing again after about 30 years.Thank you for all your vids and have a Happy New Year.
The reason I first started following your PT channel, and now this one, is because of the similarities in how we “figure it out.” Keep dropping the needle and cobble the songs together. A video like this one in particular makes me feel more connected to the guitar-playing “community” (most overused word for 2020). That’s how I figured this one out: over and over, piece by piece. I like the other references to the “Pete Townsend D” and “Moon-shadow” like we all know what we’re talking about - because we do! Click. And yeah, this site is for helping to learn songs; not perform, and it’s NOT for everybody. If it doesn’t work for you, that’s alright. Go somewhere else. Happy New Year JJ and guitar players all 🎸
I'd say the tuning is lower than standard tuning; (About -20 cents). This goes for both JJ's guitar and the White Album song. Correct me if I'm wrong. Many thanks, JJ, and a great 2021.
Great tutorial-I may have missed it, but do you have a video that breaks down the last bits of the song where Paul runs through that descending chord sequence somewhere in the neighborhood of the 13th fret?
I always found that down down finger strum so awkward that I just gave up and finger picked it. This is a super accurate translation (not that you’re seeking approval; I just happen to know on this one). :)
Great lesson squire, certainly showed me the error of my ways.Points deducted for ommiting the fingertip bash in the intro lol.I rate this as the most haunting of Paul's acoustic outings.Equal ,if not better even, than the mighty Blackbird.? Maccas equivalent, imho, to Lennon's Norwegian Wood in the mercurial stakes and a fine one to play around the campfire.
I have a j200 Japan copy made in 74 coming my way from 🇬🇧 uk...hope it’s nice...gotta good $ ...been very lucky with electric guitars n less lucky with acoustic...we’ll see...happy new year James hope it’s all line drives off yer bat in ‘21 bro
In addition to this most recent lesson on MNS, James James has an older lesson from a few years back ( it may even be Privetricker) where he explains the backing guitar outro for this as well. It is worth checking out.
Great lesson as usual James. Coincidence I uploaded my cover the same day (badly plaid I must admit but I'm an old man) the only think you mind consider is playing Dm instead of F. Happy New Year to you
You live next door and you're listening to my pathetic attempts to play MNS...you are reading my mind! "Gee, I wish JJ would cover that song again"....
Donovan didn't teach Paul well....Should've taught him more Travis style ...then let Paul go from there...It would've easier for the rest of us to learn his songs.......lol.
