My first track off the White Album!
Link to original upload: • Mother Nature's Son - ... .
This is such a serene, peaceful song. Written by Paul McCartney in India, I would call this the spiritual sister of "Blackbird." It features the same fingerpicking pattern - often attempted but almost never replicated perfectly by others - and it features the same nature/wildlife ambiance. You can almost see the trees, lakes and birds when you listen to this tune.
It's a quirky song, for sure. I tried replicating not only the playing, but the small mistakes Paul makes on the guitar. You can certainly tell that the group valued heart over perfection on this one. There are quirky timing issues, slightly misplayed riffs, and a general sense of free-wheeling, all-compassing freedom. Paul seemed to really love keeping quirks in the final record. The perfectionist Beatle wasn't so polished, after all!
The orchestra is recreated by ear. I have a commenter who thinks that I input the official score into my simulated orchestra, but that's not true (nice try, though!). I recreate each brass instrument by ear using "Cinematic Studio Brass." I was going less for note-for-note than feel here. It's a lovely brass part. I particularly like the tuba. Bwoooom.
Also, I believe there are folks who think that the percussive hits throughout the song are tapping on the back of a book, but I really liked the sound I got banging on the back of my Gibson G45. Might not be 100000% accurate, but it works for me!
Let me know what you think! Glad to put out something relatively quickly again...
More to come!

REUPLOAD! I noticed a few minor issues with my original upload and decided to upload a corrected version. Damn perfectionism. As a note of appreciation, here's a version with an extremely special guest singer: vimeo.com/863455594

Born a poor young country boy Mother Nature's son All day long I'm sitting singing songs for everyone Sit beside a mountain stream See her waters rise Listen to the pretty sound of music as she flies Find me in my field of grass Mother Nature's son Swaying daisies sing a lazy song beneath the sun Whoa, Mother Nature's son

I really love this track and how the orchestration comes in like the sunrise. Paul's picking style was not out of the textbook and as you say almost never perfectly replicated. You've done a great job with this and I appreciate the time and effort you've put in

Nice to see someone else who records each orchestral instrument separately. We do that with all our orchestral arrangements.

I like the White Album and the Beatles later years in general, because for me, it feels like George and Paul are getting more opportunities to unleash their creative songwriting abilities, especially when John wasn't present. My favourite White Album song is "Long, Long, Long" (also my dad's favourite), but this is now one of my favourites. Thank you.

"How about a bit of brass band? A very nice little bit of brass band?" I love how this was John's idea listening from the control room. You can also hear Paul's input when John was doing his takes for Julia. Goes to show the White Album was more collaborative than some might think...

Are you sure about this? In this film clip of Paul rehearsing the song for his girlfriend, he makes an almost identical comment himself: (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dDZDmbqRIzw.html). Is it possible that's what you're remembering?

When it comes to these newly reimagined Beatle tracks; I often like to sing along with them myself, since the Beatles were very much the crossroads between my early classical singing background and my school music programs, to picking up a guitar and becoming a singing guitarist like John. Especially with your timeless John Lennon lesson video. That video completely set the stage for my guitar playing style; and I was already confident in my singing chops that I had since my early childhood. I will admit that one of my biggest early music influences that I definitely remember copying and reciting back then were the Thomas the Tank Engine music videos. Especially the first sing-along video I would borrow from the library and never saw many of the videos until later. Some Disney sing-along tapes I remember lightly, but mostly Thomas. I was introduced to the Beatles in middle school, I discovered you in my freshman year of high school, as I was learning how to play; and the rest was history. Please send me a link so I can audition for potential collaborations. I will definitely practice for it.

Hello Michael, excellent interpretation, it is one of my favorites of Paul's. I like Blackbird better, since I heard it in 1968. I thought, I want to play it on the guitar. It took me many years to achieve it but I finally did it. I am not a professional musician, I love playing instruments like the piano, the bass, I do it by ear, I watch all your videos, I like them a lot, I am already subscribed. Greetings from Guadalajara Jalisco México P.S. I also touch Mother Nature´s Son
