mike - I've been following you since your first post 15 years ago - I'd like to discuss with you offline about hiring you for some remote session work for an album Im finishing up - original tunes but very influenced by fab four
I'm a bit late to this, but I love this video for it fixes pretty much the only real 2 gripes I had with the original- That being, is the fact that George's guitar is not loud enough! Doing his beautiful guitar part justice. The other being that the background vocals are *way* too loud during the solo, and it drowns out the slide guitar. Great work!
These videos are awesome because you learn about their playing. Like your friends on the podcast, another great version of the song sir! 🫡 What I noticed: it’s kinda a ska Caribbean song! Up stroke skank. I know they liked reggae and all that. So interesting to see something you’ve heard all your life.
I've always wondered if the bass drum was not miked on the record, or was it Ringo's special flavour that he used it so rarely in this track. Not even the remix on the Red album solved that riddle for me. Anyways, you recreated the drums as they can be heard on the record, great work!
I always liked this song but with the Sgt Pepper's remix (and the session takes) started I appreciating the production of this song. Absolutely genius. So is the recreation! Great stuff!
great work, both of you! i really appreciate your explanation of the process and discoveries you made along the way. i’ve been “reproducing” beatle tracks since i bought my first cassette 4-track in 1989, so learning how other people do it is as interesting to me as the final product.
Michael, I know I'm a year late, but I absolutely love your channel. You've taught me so much and you've helped me so much to getting closer to become an actual John Lennon tribute. You mean the world to me. Thanks so much for the videos! Me and all my Beatle nerd friends watch your channel and your content means the world to not just me, but almost 18.4 thousand others. Your impact on making Beatle instrumentals will never be taken for granted in my heart. Thank you!❤
If there could only be one final edit, I'd choose the way you're doing it because the editing calls my attention to various little nuggets of genius in the arrangements, but there *could* be a second "study version" video for each song where everything you hear is shown. For example, in this one, at 0:24, everything is there except the piano.
Sounds great. I wonder what it would sound like if it was done at the actual perfomed speed (very fast) which was slowed down for the vocal overdubs and mixes.
When Giles Martin remixed this he left the original sloppy drums track open on the ending edit piece. The original mixes of course muted the bad drums. Unbelievable that no one at Abbey Road or Apple noticed the error.
Dear Mike, what cymbals are you using, old Zildjian A's, Stambuls, Super Zyns/Not So Super Zyns, a combination of the 3 or none of the following? Big fan of yours going back a long while and i hope you saw my comments on the gear there and everywhere channel as well!! can't wait if you guys ever do a drum episode of some kind! <3
