Mother Opossum and Babies 2 

💓 I love the one who's just staring at its mom's face like, "yes... teach me to be a scary opossum too..."

the babies look so innocent and oblivious as to what is going on, like "what's wrong momma?" :3

What a great little mommy. She's being very protective of her babies holding her mouth open like that. I live in a neighborhood in Knoxville, Tennessee that butts up to some woods and we get Opossums all the time in our yard. So every night I come outside around 11 and give the skunks and opossums food....usually nuts, fruit, oats and left over table scraps. I make sure to give them extra food in the spring because most of them are pregnant or have just given birth and they need all the food they can to nurse all those young babies. They will walk right up to me and I've never once been sprayed or bitten. It just kills me when people poison, shoot, trap or are mean to wild animals...we have to remember that our houses were built in THEIR environment and we should respect and learn to live together in peace. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE BE KIND TO ALL OF OUR WILD ANIMALS IN THE WORLD AND TREAT THEM HOW YOU WOULD WANT TO BE TREATED.

No one ever told me that a baby opossum is one of the cutest things on earth.....OMG!

Who says they're ugly? I think they're incredibly beautiful. But then crows are probably my favorite bird too. They're so smart!

Awww I miss my oppossum! I was given a baby who's mother had been killed. She was so tiny and of course scared and dehydrated. But within two hours, she would react to my voice out of a room of people. A little warm milk and love will do wonders! Then years later, living way out in the country, a baby opposum moved in under my house. I would go out to feed and she would be "dead" in the cardboard box. Only she was so young she kept moving, LOL. Really really hard not to touch something that cute. They have the most adorable ears, like flower petals. It was great being part of her wild world, instead of her having to deal with mine.

Oppossums are very protective of their babies. I remember feeding one outside. For a while she was fine with me but one day she just started making noises keeping me away from the plastic box I used outside as shelter for her. Turns out it was full of her mini-mes.

She is making that face because she is scared and protective of her babies. If you felt threatened and afraid for your children, you'd do all kinds of things to scare the danger away.

I love possum they're so cute with there long tail and big round ears

She may look scary, but she is really smiling. Possums are like alligators, they dont' have cheeks, so its hard to tell if they are happy or angry. She is drooling from the glands at the tip of her mouth, slubbing, its how they show affection. I think it smells sweet, but then I also love the smell of fresh cow manure. If they are scared or feel threatened, they drool a really foul smelling schmutch from glands in the back corners of their mouth that I've seen make a hungry fox say no thanks. She is clearly a proud happy momma.

I saw one of these on a fence post and it started to drool exactly like this one in the video, then it started to like foam around its mouth. After about 10 min. though i kinda figured it was just trying to fool me into think it was dead or something, but i tried to feed it some cellary and even patted it on the back. I finaly just left it alone though.

Opossums are awesome, way better than any cat.

I work for a wildlife rehab and we often get possums in, especially babies whose moms have been killed. (They sure are cute, the wee ones!). Her mouth is open because she's stressed and panting. She is also showing off her teeth as a warning that she will use them to protect her little ones. Even dogs pant and drool when stressed! It's quite normal for many animals.

It's amazing that these animals still find a way to survive in our crowded neighborhoods. In Huntington, Long Island, NY we had some foxes. There's only patches of small woods in-between houses, but somehow these animals find a way to survive. Man is heralding in a great mass extinction. It doesn't look good for these poor animals. Anyone who feeds a raccoon or opossum has my blessing.

I see opossums all the time. They don't don't usually seem very scared of humans and they are very slow moving. Seems as though they've gotten the short end of the evolutionary stick.

When I lived in Virginia we had one in our tree. My roommate left food on the porch for his cats and the possum would come down to steal it. I think they are very cute animals.

I've raised Possums here in Australia but ours only have the one rarely two at most. They too ride on mums back. We have Pygmy Possums, Ringtail Possums and Brushtail Possums...

For those wondering: I'm not an expert on opossums, but I believe the mother has her mouth open to intimidate the person recording and keep them away from her babies. Most opossums won't actually bite, and those that do won't really hurt you. It's more intimidation.

Haha indeed. They looked like mama opossum and later I began feeding some of them when they were bigger. I think she eventually came to accept me but never let me into that box of surprises.
