Ren is originally from North Wales...fairly close to the north of England...hence the slightly northern twang. He has Lyme disease which went undiagnosed for years causing his illness. He is currently living in Canada where he is receiving treatment. Tales of Jenny and Screech (13m version) is the next logical step....all his stuff is amazing.

Chalk Outlines LIVE version with Chinchilla is a perfect next stop and his 2nd to latest " Back on 74 " is out of this world style and vocal-wise. Then as you say there is The Big Push. He won an International award for Money Game 3 video. Big up from Eastbourne just along the road to Brighton.

Oh, and in case you didn't know... The Brighton "Sick Boi" also managed to achieve a No.1 album in the UK, and all while being independent. He's a legend already... but I think there is so much more to come. Can't wait.

The majority of his work that I have had the brilliant luck to come across, is more like "performance art" than just music. This piece, for example, is lyrically, and musically engrossing, in and of itself, laced with similies, metaphors, double entendre, beautifully descriptive details, and sweeping melodic outbursts, but you take: the different camera angles used for the 2 battling parts of his psyche, the different tones of voice used for each (aggressive vs. passive), the different lighting cues for each (flashing vs. steady), and the vocal inflection used for each (anger vs. calm), and you get a sense of perspective from each of those that helps to move the narrative. It's like an rock operetta. It evokes emotion, introspection, empathy, sympathy, happiness, sorrow, and even a feeling of resolution. I LOVE this performance. He definitely deserves ALL the accolades he is currently garnering from the world.

The reason Ren blew up is because of how authentic and relatable this video was for so many people. He portrays an internal battle that many of us fight every single day. That challenging, belittling voice is something most of us experience, and it can feel like it holds all the power. But Ren also portrayed the voice of hope, and that's what gets most of us through the day. I don't think I've ever seen another artist be that vulnerable, or tackle a subject in such a way as to meld my own experience with theirs. It hit me right at my core. This is beyond music. It's an experience.

The confusion and difficulty finding words is typical after experiencing Ren. Just seeing you for the first time. Been a Ren fan for 2 years now. Your mother is amazing and I have subscribed to watch you two. Her age that she jokes about is what gives her this understanding of Ren that the younger generations are delving into because of him. It's almost spiritual. You kinda have to know the background of Ren. He had limes disease and was not properly diagnosed for 10+ years. Since he wasn't properly treated he suffered from auto immunity and psychosis. He FINALLY got diagnose and in currently in Canada undergoing treatments for it. His work is nothing short of amazing....welcome to the rabbit hole that is Ren :)

It's so interesting to hear you mention Bob Marley at the end. There is a video of THE BIG PUSH (Ren's band that you mentioned) playing a medley of I Shot The Sheriff by Bob Marley and a song by Bob's son and some other stuff. I have some brain damage from an accident so please forgive me forgetting the proper title for a moment lol. If you search for... The Big Push - I shot the sheriff ... you will find the video. The one you should watch has Hip Hop at the end of the title, I think. It's an incredible video filmed on the streets of your lovely hometown, Brighton. Who knows? Maybe you were in the crowd that day. You will love it either way.

I discovered Ren this year through this clip also when I was reacting to "NF-HOPE" and I saw him in the recommendations, I thought he was a lyrical genius, since then I've followed his journey. Just found your channel with this video, been watching reactions to the song all day. Was pleasantly surprised to hear that you saw this guy performing before he was well known. This reaction in particular is interesting to me because of how there are two generations reacting to something that my yet even younger generation has produced (the suffering caused by our circumstances that leads to the creation of art like this). The world has begun to change so quickly and all the different generations still living currently seem to struggle relating to each other. The way this message affects all these different generations is different in some ways and the same in others. Society changes at a furious pace, but simultaneously human nature has always been and always will be the same. The mum cracked me up a bit 😂. You struggled to find a good enough word for this, well I think art describes it perfectly :) His issues comes from having been misdiagnosed and pumped full of medicine he never should've had... That resulted in brain damage and psychosis, on top of his chronical illness, Lyme's disease. Loved your reaction, ladies. My elder brother was a street busker for much of his life, with a period in folk singing, and then pop in the late 1960's before returning to busking [Don Partridge]. He spent his last years in Seaford and Peacehaven, close to Brighton, and often busked in Brighton, so when he died the corporation named a bus after him. So, like you, I have a special affinity for buskers and for Brighton. Ren is probably the most amazing, creative and theatrical musical artist I have ever heard or seen. I know that you will both enjoy your Ren journey!

I was not as lucky as you as to be able to actually see Ren in person, but after seeing Hi Ren, I fell in love and watched everything of his. Although he is still in Canada getting treatments for Lyme disease, he did put out a Hip Hop / Rap album Sic Boi and did win #1 album in the UK. Just him and his Brighton friends who all flew to Canada to be with him. No radio play, no touring or promoting, just people on RU-vid finding him and falling in love. It's such an amazing thing and I hope he continues to get the recognition he deserves. You should watch the moment he found out he was #1, your Mom would love it!

Wow! Someone who knows him, who has seen him live on the streets. Awesome work, ladies. On the pausing videos, that is a way to avoid copyright strikes and such issues with reactions. Ren doesn't do that, but a lot of artists, or the rights holders for their music at least, will strike reactions to claim the revenue. Blurring the video on our screens is another way, things like that. Such methods are attempting to cover your own bottoms. Ren is truly amazing. I kind of wish I could have lived over there when he was active, just to experience him in such a raw state, but I'm on the other side of the planet in NZ. We have our own, New Brighton in my city. It's not the same, though. Keep being awesome, ladies.

You are coming at Ren with a fresh perspective, one that intrigues me: I see in his many busking videos all the passerby who stop to enjoy his beautiful music and yet, perhaps, are not aware of the myriad health issues that have plagued him and, in fact, inspired much of his music (latest album = Sick Boi). This is a very different perspective from the youtube audience such as myself who have learned about the health issues as soon as discovering Ren. I would love to hear, as you dive into his videos, whether your impression of him has changed since the busking days! BTW, I'm super envious that you got see him in those street performances!!

I’ve watched a few people react to this song now. It’s interesting to see how different people react. Some smile, some weep, some just sit there and reflect. What’s apparent is that we all understand what he is saying inside.

I love this reaction!! Almost all reactions to "Hi Ren" start with the words "I've never heard of Ren, but...". It was a lovely take to see Mother's reaction knowing that she knew Ren from his busking days, and that she already knew Ren is quite talented. And the facial expressions on Daughter as she experiences this video - I feel like I should have paid to watch them! I'm sure I won't be the first or last person to recommend you react to the Jenny & Screech trilogy next. If you do, do it in the order Jenny's tale -> Screech's tale -> Violet's tale, or better yet, use the 13 minute single video with all 3 that Ren put together. And although you both know that "talented" and "genius" only begin to describe Ren, I leave you with an almost spoiler that Mother will understand: Before watching Jenny & Screech, I figured Ren was a talented genius. Midway through the trilogy, Ren made it to highly imaginative talented genius. In the last scene of the trilogy, I immediately and unapologetically placed Ren in the same class as Rod Serling and Alfred Hitchcock. Absolutely a unique talent.

What a great way to spend my early Friday evening, watching a couple of old soaks (of course I'm joking😅) getting battered on buckets of G&T and having their minds blown by Ren.

Actually, this is a perfect place to start. Of course you living in Brighton are luckily enough to have heard Sam and Ren busking live. I live over America in near San Francisco so I have to see him via his audio music and his videos. Please continue your journey. He did get number 1 Album in UK a couple months ago. He is currently in Calgary, Alberta in Canada finishing up some treatments. He plans on moving to L.A. By the way he is from Wales but did move to Brighton where you saw Ren and Sam busking.
