This is the eight episode in of the seventh season of The Simpsons titled "Mother Simpson" or well the ending of it. I remember this video was on here a while ago but sadly was deleted as this may well be too but hey I love the song so I am willing to risk it. One of my favorite Simpsons moments. =)
Danny Elfman is the artist.

This moment brings me to tears... because for a character like Homer, to have such a real moment here where he just sits on his car and instead of returning home to his family just sits there so he can reflect on things and stare into the sky. It crushes me, probably my favorite moment in the whole series.

This was when Simpsons was good eh and nowadays it's a zombie eh? this show is just not relevant anymore compared to other adult animation nowadays when it should had ended in 2000? I think it's Homer's reaction that sells it. It's a silly moment during an emotional scene, but rather than laughing out loud, Homer finds it endearing and smiles with a hint of humour when he raises his hand to his mouth. It's subtle and emotional response to a funny gag, which in turn helps keep the tone of the scene intact.

A mom who abandoned him, a father who was full of anger, bitterness and Grief, who barely bothered, to show any interest, seeing a dead body, all this caused Homer to become an alcoholic, and as if that weren't bad enough, he overeats on unhealthy food, abuses his son and ignores, his wife's complain's and advice's, treat's his neighboor in a bad way, because he is jealous of Ned, having a better life, more money, calmer children, it's safe to say that Homer, has alot of emotional issue's, and that he should get therapy, to become a better father figure, and quit beer but ofc after 34 year's, why bother making Homer a better person?, but an interesting this is that, Homer from S1 to S3, was more caring and less egomaniac.

The way I see it, this episode should have been the ending to the Simpsons. Homer spent his entire childhood believing that parenthood was a mistake. However, Mother Simpsons brought back Mona and Homer realized that even after separated, she never stopped missing him and loving him and with Abe finally standing up defending his wife and son, Homer's journey in embracing parenthood was complete. The one who caused this entire problem was Burns but thanks to the effort of the entire family, Burns suffered loss and allowing Homer to have the chance in seeing victory over the nemesis of the Simpson Family. While the ending felt sad but I interpreted as Homer reflecting on what has transpired. Thanks to all that has happened, Homer has found a new starting point, to be a better man, to be a better son, to be a better husband and to be a better father. With that said, what do you all think about the comment?

As fans I'm sure we all wanted Homer and Mona to be with each other, but keeping them apart was probably the most ingenious idea on the show. The depth that it added was phenomenal. And Glenn Close did Mona so perfectly. Man, I love this show

The first time I watched this, I remember my first though was: ''How was Homer when he got back home? Did he keep all his pain to himself? Or did his family helped him out to get out of that enormous sadness?'' Then the Simpsons became even more powerful to me than ever.

Watching this scene always breaks me. Sometimes a simple image is way more powerful than words. And its the fact that Homer realises that although he may not of known his mom growing up he still got little bits of her attributes. And the thought that after he's said goodbye he's too emotional to drive home so he just sits there and thinks about her as he looks at the stars. Don't want to over analyse and ruin it. Its truly a beautifully done moment

The final image of Homer sitting on his car was drawn by episode director, David Silverman. He's primarily known for his extreme poses and sharp timing when he was asked to animate a scene, but this just goes to show how much his style can differ from one episode to the next. From hilarious to heartfelt, the man is a genius.

Watching this scene as a teen made me sad. But now I am an adult and had to Emigrate from my country away from my family and especially my mom whom I am very close to, so watching this scene again now just makes me cry specially at night when there is nothing much to do and stare at the sky remembering my old days. This whole scene represents what Family Guy, South Park and even American Dad could never do. They would always make very stupid and disrespectful jokes in cutaway gags about this while The Simpsons has always been the true deal. Being golden, showing tons of heart and making you love the whole Simpsons family despite some who have insecurities.
