A judge has sentenced Sydney Powell to an indefinite sentence of 15 years to life after being found guilty of all charges related to fatally stabbing her mother in the family’s home.
After deliberating for nine hours and twenty-three minutes, the jury found the 23-year-old guilty of murder, felonious assault and tampering with evidence in the March 3, 2020, death of Brenda Powell, 50. She suffers from schizophrenia, and three of the four psychologists agreed that she'd suffered a psychotic break. Someone in the midst of psychosis can't calculate anything and is not inhabiting reality. She was temporarily insane and hence should be in a mental institution, not a prison. Realizing this requires a certain amount of objectivity, which has never been Americans' strong suit. Sadly, there is no possibility of justice without objectivity.

You could just as easily note that the prosecution's psychologist was paid, but that too would be a meaningless statement. A more logical statement would be that they wouldn't be on the stand if they didn't happen to hold a view that was consistent with what the defense was arguing. There is no evidence that any of these psychologists were mere puppets. A psychologist is a psychologist, so unless someone proves that those three are disreputable in some way, I am inclined to trust the majority opinion. Frankly, I find it worrisome that the prosecution could only come up with one psychologist to verify their claims about this woman's state of mind.

The family is so delusional, and have no right to speak on behalf of Brenda, just because they want to safe the family name from the stench that Sydney brought to it. Yes, Brenda loved Sydney, but I bet, when the frying pan was bashing her brains out, she hated that child, and I believe she shouted: "Get out!" a sentence that Sydney afterwards used as a demand from her mother, when the window broke. If you watch a lot of the youtube court cases? She can go before them in half of the 18 years with good behavior, and programs. As a prison guard myself, I/We have witnessed many people who have killed multiple people , and be able to go before a board & get released. I doubt that she will be anything but a saint in jail out of fear, and not being a hard enough person to handle what she is now seeing first hand, and please believe that however long she is made to pay, she will be Terrified to say the least, and it will harden her , her Tears will cost her in jail, she will have to toughen up, so at least she will not have Grandma cooking special food for her where she is going! It's my hope that what she did to her mom plays in her head like a movie! Non Stop

They sentenced drug dealers more time then this what a joke! Great acting job too!

Drug dealers should get more time, in some cases. That is an extremely broad category of crime.

The absolutely most heartbreaking irony is that she needs her mother more than she ever has. And she killed her.

The thoughts running through her head....are the thoughts she should have had before she did what she did. Justice is served!

I hope she never gets parole, but I know that’s unlikely. However, I like the sound of 50 years, let’s say, over 15.

She was a teen at time of murder so will be paroled for a second chance adults never get! Not necessarily at 15 yrs unless she is a saint and takes full responsibility for her decisions and coverup of that murder though! Parole board asks lot good questions! It’s not easy to get out! She has to prove worthiness back to society!

@@Juke582She was a legal adult, and that’s why she was tried as an adult. I’m fully aware of the process, and it’s unlikely she will be paroled at her first hearing. She committed a heinous, horrific murder, only exacerbated by the fact that it was her own Mother. And, no one believed her fabricated story of having Schizophrenia. It was absolute nonsense and indicative of someone who doesn’t want to take responsibility for her own actions. She needs to remain in prison for a very long time, ma’am.

I would have liked to have heard the words exchanged between them after the judge expressed her not so hidden feelings for Sydney.
