I dont think if Shakunthala Devi was alive she would have loved this. A film about her should have be a film of her intelligence and academic powers. This has become like anyanother mother daughter relationship drama.

Who felt the climax of the movie was so dramatic and unrealistic... The climax itself is enough to understand that her daughter have made this story to revenge her mother....
Seconded. Now that Ms Devi is no more, her daughter had free rein to change the narrative. And of course, the climax was to be the way it was otherwise it would have antagonized viewers
Why such a negative worldview? Anupama Banerjee could have made this as a lasting product of her mother's legacy. In my opinion, this film was well-made and poignant and the climactic speech at the end was heart and soul stirring.

i hope you know that biopics cover both the personal and professional problems of the person. The first half of the movie showed us how she became a worldwide known mathematician. The next half showed her relationship with her daughter. And you can clearly see in this video above; *Shakuntala Devi was in fact dramatic* . She was an independent, humorous, and brilliant minded woman. They wanted to show her entire personality in the movie, not just her relationship with numbers.
I think its not fair.. Her daughter wants to be in lime light and portrayed her mom as villi.. How can she do this... And shakuntala devi mam is not with us to defend herself.. Its unfair to shakuntala devi mam..
The True Story of India's Math Genius Shakuntala Devi was an Indian writer and mathematical genius. She is popularly known as the “Human-Computer” for making complicated mathematical calculations in her head and effortlessly speaking out the results. Her extraordinary abilities earned her a place in “The Guinness Book of World Records.” @7P2c @t
Had she been alive it would've been more insightful and exuberant. The movie was made from the point of view of the daughter, almost pleasing her. Extremely stupid, waste of a genius' portrayal.
"She is a dramatic women"! Really!! She was a genius! A human computer! A person who was much ahead of her time! A legend who deserve a much better representation of her life than the crap movie you have made!
A person cannot be good at everything and that is perfectly ok...she did not like her mother, she is correct at her place. I appreciate that honesty... I understand why people are getting angry but , get this people , a person can be an absolute genius most incredibly loving individual but still fail (not be good) at parenting ...and its totally fine! You do not know their journeys , you do not know their problems. There is no need of worshipping brilliant people their lives are also chaotic like everyone else's. Ofcourse you can appreciate and love their brilliance but there is no need to idolise and worship anyone! ❤️
They are calling the daughter bad for showing her mother's flaws... how do you know who was the bad person? Her mother put her in boarding, separated her from the father, but she isnt supposed to feel bad? She showed her mom's strengths too.
Not mere ambitious. Shakuntala helped lacs. She fought battles..morally. these days you see.. success without moral values. Shakuntala kept values.. culture intact
If she was a failed mother , she would have not tried to carry on a relationship with a gay husband. It was her strength that she carried on with every thing yet the ungrateful daughter is bantering.
I am pretty sure , Shakuntla never was what they showed her in movie ,don't know how her family members gave permission for this portayel,if bollywood wanna learn how to make biopic ,see movie on ramanajun by Hollywood !!
Yeah.. Because the whole power is in her daughters hand.. If movie crew should start the movie without her permission she have all the rights to go to court and stop them
U r almost right bcoz people who personally met her also claimed on fb that her character is not showing right.. this daughter n director made story for her own
@@neena2695 that's the point ! ,Bollywood always in making biopic adds drama and masala to topic so that more people watches it for that ,and completely turns away from the topic and I think as her family members got royalty money ,so they were fine with whatever was shown ,as long as hey we're having money ,but it's really a shame on name of great mathematician we had
The only reason a movie should have been made on Shakuntala Devi was to portray her talent and not promote a failed mother daughter relationship. Nobody wants to know that. We want to know her work. This is such a disgrace and disrespect to the deceased genius.
Anupama should be thankful that she got such a genius as mother.. What she is and what she has, everything BECOZ of her mother only.. But she made the makers to portray her biopic instead of her mother's..
Why are you interested in her family matter and reality is never perfect and everyone have some negatives too , why are you people believe in hero worship she is talented , great but her daughter did not like troublesome childhood ,divorce of parents.
Many people are commenting that we only need her as a math genius and don't want to explore her relationship with her daughter. I think both could have been covered in the movie which unfortunately didn't happen. A person could be a math genius while struggling to have a normal life at home. Instead they made her to be a caricature who is almost like Charlie Chaplin, making others laugh at her own expense. Are we looking at the biopic of a mathematician or a stand up comic?
As Indian & a woman I am proud of Shakuntala mam... & I think most of us don't even want to know about her jealous daughter... so please step aside... & please give respect to Shakuntala devi.... & this is 1st story of Quint which I don't like....
Unfortunately, the daughter actually came across as an entitled and spoiled brat. If Shakunthala Devi had been meek, subservient, and conformist then she would not have achieved any of the glory. Sometimes our Indian culture puts too much emphasis on humility and conformity than individual achievement.
Not necessarily so. If the events of the movie are to be trusted then Anupama had a turbulent childhood, constantly travelling to different places with her mother against her will and being out of touch with her father despite trying to correspond with him. I agree with the fact that Ms Devi would not have become as popular as she was during her lifetime had she retired after childbirth but that doesn't mean Anupama didn't suffer. A genius might not be able to understand their child's feelings and desires and that is not unheard of. We do not know Anupama's side of the story, so we can't tell P.S. I am really not sure how authentic are the events portrayed in the biopic. In some scenes, the creators have gone too far to prove a point but I believe that the essence was intact.
Actually Shakunthala Devi did not have any input in the biopic as she had died in 2013, so we do not know her side of the story. The only input has come from her daughter Anupama, who should have been a little more careful in her own own portrayal. Surely the makers would have signed contracts with her so she doesnt sue later.
@@ganeshprasad4929 The most important point is that the name of the movie is 'Shakuntala Devi' and not 'Anupama Devi'. I was there to see Shakuntala's achievements, her highs and lows in life , how she grew an interest for mathematics, whether she had any unfulfilled dreams or not. I wasn't there to see her spoiled , jealous daughter. Yes personal life is important in biopics but they aren't the most important thing. And idk why her daughter is getting so much fame. They should've shown her in a scene or two and then moved on. No one cares for Anupama Banerjee. But they have made her the protagonist and displayed her mother in a negative light.
I wish you would have only made a movie on a mathematician but not potreyed her as spoiled one. Because successful hone se ladies ghar ko nahi bhul jate.
Ppl with talents like Shankuntala Devi can not be normal in any aspect... After all she did everything which was considered ODD in 70s which s even ODD in 2020.. Hats off to her talents and her guts..
The movie was okayish but a biopic shouldn't be anything like that. It should have been more focussed on her and her maths rather than showing it a mother-daughter drama. Many genius people, famous artists somewhat are neglected towards their parenting and that doesn't make then less of a human. The amount of pride that was brought by Shakuntala Devi is unmatched. In the second half, I literally cringed while watching how the movie was solely focussed on daughter and on her in-laws rather than on Shakuntala Devi's journey. Biopics are always ruined by Bollywood apart from some few are exceptions.
why not? aren't mathematicians humans too? are they exempt from the human condition? no! this film encapsulated the personal turmoil in a beautiful wrenching way.
the very existence of maths asks us to probe deeper into why Life exists, why we are humans. Making a film devoid of this content would be a documentary not a feature length Hindi drama film.
No one was interested in your personal relationship with your mother but how did she became what she was. Too much focus on mothers and daughters. This couldn't be seen as a biopic of her, we need writers to write on struggles of the successful people that's what inspire others to keep going. It seems like KWK movie version, too much information about personal life no one signed up for. Please BOLLYWOOD try and understand, we are educated enough to not get into sas bahu aur maa beti trails anymore. Performances were praiseworthy no doubt.
Shakuntala devi is not about a scholar, Mathematician, rather it's about a f**kd up relationship between mother and daughter which f*"kd up the entire movie. Sometimes I think she just took a revenge from her mother by showing her as cringe as possible 😂😂
It’s a biopic. Your life is more than your career. And it seems her personal life was very messed up so why not. It’s a biopic not just the story of her being a mathematician. Don’t be so judgmental. Everyone’s life has drama. Try writing a biopic for yourself when you are older and then see
@@Sonakshi111 First understand the types of biopic, 1st is based on their struggles, lifetime achievements like "Gandhi" where personal issues would be just a minor sub plots. 2nd one is solely based on their personal life, relationships, etc like "Gandhi, My Father" which is shown through his son's perspective. Movie somewhere falls in a 2nd one, then why they heavily promoted it like 1st one(life based on Mathematician). Apart from that cringeworthy screenplay, too unrealistic, especially scenes with foreigners. If you liked this movie your have very poor taste dear. India has far better biopics like Harishchandrachi factory, Super 30, etc which are equally entertaining, filmy and realistic.

If u have chromosomes from a mathematician and an IAS OFFICER. U ought not waste it. Not criticizing her but this is what i felt. Sorry, if anyone finds it offensive.
The movie is Shakuntala devi not maths devi... Its her whole life entire aspect. If you think all the things she did in her life was wrong n not sati savitri like thats your problem not hers. Dont expect a woman in a saree to live life like your mum ya... She was different n that made the movie.
You are talking about one end of the spectrum that no one is all perfect. Agree. But, at the other end no one is completely flawed and dramatic like they have portrayed her in this movie. The least they could have done was show her like a normal human with flaws. A math genius biopic without any maths, how ridiculous is that. Would you agree if the Dhoni biopic had no mention of cricket?
@@entertainmentguru5282 By the same logic, how much do we know about the personal life of Ramanujan? If not for the recognition he received from Britain, I don't think we might know even the small things we know now. @@203rahman 'no one is completely flawed and dramatic' dude you don't know that... The daughter knows that... There is very little theory, achievement, it shows their personal lives too. The women who stood by them. They all had flaws. They were all toned down as well for 'audience sensibility' Note: Shakuntala devi is not just mere numbers.
@@Liztastaney7 I have already seen a Beautiful mind, it shows his entire life, family life and his problems too. If this movie is about her daughter, it should have been named Shakuntala Devi, my mother instead of portraying it as her biopic. This is the difference between Gandhi and Gandhi, my father movies. One is his biopic and the other is his sons struggles under his shadow. Also, she fought for gay rights after her husband turned out to be gay. It is one of the very few books she has written about. People hated Shakuntala Devi movie not because they portrayed her as flawed, but because it wasn't her story, it was her daughters that too devoid of her achievements and her perspective. When a story is told about a person, his/her opinion or perspective also matters a lot.
You were not a good daughter . She was a prodigy. As per the movie it shows a jealous daughter if it was true you have not been a good daughter.she was way somewhere. You did not do justice as a daughter.
So many accomplishments of Shakuntala Devi were not shown in the movie. It just became another typical Bollywood drama. And to be honest, was it really necessary to portray her in such a bad light just because she wasn't a mom you wanted her to be?Many of her thoughts were kinda valid like when she said to her husband : "Agar aaj meri jagah tum hote toh mujhse expect kiya jata ki mein mera sab kuchh chod ke tumhare sath world ghumu."
And then there are movies made by non-Indian movie makers, like Man Who Knew Infinity with so much compassion and respect for the geniuses and not entirely focussing on the drama!
Its just a story of a greedy money minded daughter who inherited all her mother's wealth when she was alive and still made money by making a movie after her death.
She got hold of sooo much and still is fighting for 50 crores with the foundation . She was not there when Shakuntala devi was undergoing operations at an old age. And now is trying to mint money out of her story.
Just like all those big star’s over acting in kuch kuch hota hai, kabhi khushi khabi gham, dabangg🤣 chennai express and more...I think vidha balan has done perfectly incredible job as an actress in most of her movies...but obviously people like u would not appreciate it because there isn’t any stereotypical hindi movie bakwas ,senseless third grade comedy , air fight, series of dumb misadventures and item dance which isn’t suitable to entire story line🤣😝
Aparna Midhun honey.. she is capable of better acting I know that very well but in this particular movie, she is acting more like the Vidya of Dirty Picture. It’s clearly over acting which doesn’t suit the character at all. I, as a viewer, expected something better. And Shahrukh’s comedy LOL... I never liked his acting.
Vidya Balan is a great actress with great acting skills But she was made to act exaggerated melodramatic role and it ruined the whole movie This subject would be a classic, but this movie just ruined it and also didn't use the potential of vidya balan properly I'm sad that we couldn't pay a better tribute to that women shakuntala devi😔😔
The story would have gone near oscar had it been about her ingenius capabilities, rather it focuses on the relationship problems with her dear ones. Such an insult to a highly intelligent woman. The creators should have seen "A Beautiful Mind" atleast once before doing this silly treachery to a brilliant mathematician....
Genius minds rarely act like they are portrayed in the movies or biopic! This movie should have been made while she was alive to celebrate her victory and gifts! After watching the movie only I came to this and it's definitely not shakuntala, it's daughter using moms talent for her popularity!
I happened to watch a you tube video wherin Shakuntala Devi during an interaction in Trinidaad was mentioning about her encounter with Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. This could have been captured in the movie.
This movie is really awesome..... But tittle of the movie has been wrongly kept... The movie should be tittled as "Anupama Banerjee" instead of Shakuntala Devi...
People who came to know about Ms. Shakuntala Devi AFTER the movie be like this is drama not maths and all. Well let me tell you this I've been a fan of hers for 7-8 yrs. Like we used to solve her books and watch the videos ok RU-vid! If you are really that much into maths then there are plenty of videos on the internet. The movie made me see through all of that which I craved for. I'd give it 5 stars and thoda sa over drama toh chalta hai anyways. It wasn't a math tutorial it was a biography. As for the you guys calling upon her daughter... She clearly loves and adores her mother but unusual people do have unusual tendencies which a teenager is not able to grasp at times. Also about the the lie she told..it was a good marketing strategy and sometimes wrong is good like in this case. So the movie the acting the math everything for me was paisa wasool. RIP Ms. Devi I wish she'd have gotten a Padmavibhushan for her genius.
People who have normal mother wants cool mther. And people with cool mother wants normal mother. It's just the way of the world. Have we ever thought of being a daughter/son they wanted us to be? No no no no......
These girls wants the whole credit. The movie should be based on her and her ability to solve mathematics not the love hate relationship of a daughter and mother because everyone has different relationship with their moms but it's not they don't care for their child . You need to understand your mother being a mathematics prodigy and her passion. You must learn to celebrate her life and support her instead your trying to ruin it. Oh my god if anyone watches shankuntala devi's actual interviews and her interactions she is so subtle she was never so dramatic its sad she is being projected in this manner
You sell the movie in the name of Ms Shakuntala Devi and show her daughter’s story is very unfair. No mother would want a daughter who wants to malign her image after her death.
I wish thy wud have not done her biopic by spoiling her image just focusing on mother n daughter relationship... Thy was more about shankutala devi... Abt her skills..... What a disgraceful daughter! Shakuntla Devi is known as a genius. She is the reason I love calculation. Read her books about puzzles which had helped me in many interviews. I know many other students who loved her books. Can't think any such daughter like her who degrade her mother this way. What a pathetic human being this anupama is! @@spritzersmrits I don't know Shakuntala Devi's soul will be upset or not but the way she has been represented in this interview by her daughter and anu is disgraceful for a woman whose contribution is much more than just mindless drama that anu suggests.
Well , you just reduced a great mathematician - a figure who was idolized to a very selfish lady. If one has to excel in something, u have to give it ur whole. The biopic seems more a justification of who u are.. as a daughter and why. U just ruined it to earn off her story.
People wants to see Ms SHAKUNTALA DEVI as an mathematical wizard even before computers were invented in fact. The same was amply demonstrated by Ms Shakuntala Devi successfully touring the world. That is called real succes. Coming to the strained relationship with her daughter & broken family relationship, it is quite understable but SHOULD NEVER MADE as too much of an emotional issue to project in any film.. If made or described means it shall surely become another family drama leaving out the main CRUX of the film. It appears that too much unwanted MASALA shall make the film, a failed one in the box office irrespective of the language the film is made. There is already too too much of it in entire film industry as a whole. Which most successful families have not having internal problems for achieving their great great success. In the present case, that too coming from just hand to mouth living family background achieving that much fame across the world itself is an greatest achievement. Atleast the co called civilised daughter must come to terms with the reality and forget all the unpleasant upbringing of the past & cherish, respect, adopt to new changing circumstances that is CALLED REAL LIFE LIVING. Children who do not respect their parents by forgiving & taking a fair view of the situations what education these children can impart their children in future.?
The comment section is why we cant have dynamic characters in Indian Cinema. Only one dimensional characters, Just a mathematician. Seriously ? People are flawed, not perfect.
After watching film I thought I only felt that women being genius is a sin. In the name of family they disgraced her. If it's a men they will say working hard person. After reading comments I feel am not the only one dislike movie...
Unfair!!! These dramatic ppl just want drama..why these film makers don't concentrate on genius and real things..why to make films a hit by adding unnecessary and false things and that too when She is not alive..shame on these ppl.
Something about this film just disgusted me. The narrative, daughters perspective, producers ‘masala’ angles. The woman was a legend, of which nothing was gracefully shown. What a disgrace to make this about her private life and all that fuelled by her own daughter. The irony is tragic.
If shakuntala devi was good mom and anupama is bad daughter then why shakuntala devi didn't give chance to her daughter to live with his dad paritosh banerjee...Even we don't know that whether he is still alive or not? Even shakuntala didn't mention the name of her daughter in her properties....
The movie has reduced Shakuntala Devi to a selfish human being. I watched it to celebrate an Indian math brain.. and every family has its own issues, that doesn't mean that those problems define a person.
Verydisappointing movie .disrespected a genius from the get go. Portrayed her as a woman who was desparate for love. Don't believe some of the narration on the cruelty of separating the daughter from her father. The daughter wants to play victim
She was a genius indeed but this bollywood story is a bit fabricated, i dont see any drama queen in her interviews. But that's bollywood guys. Bina masale k to yaha film chlegi nhi. Anyways the mother daughter might be true or false representation we dont know reality. But the plight of daughter can be little understood but she also should have understood her mother as a human being who is doing wonders and she is trying to turn her into normal. Might be her mother's mistakes but nobody's perfect she should have understood and respected her. I don't know about this movie but being as sons and daughters we should also put some light how much of our parent's individuality is important and should be loved and respected. Thats what I have to say. Love to the mathematics genius❤️.
Shakuntala Devi was not only a math prodigy but also an LGBT crusader at a time when being gay would have got you killed or landed you in prison in most parts of the world. So how come she never got a Padma Shree whereas Ekta Kapoor did?
Personally I think d movie biased. Just by d point of view of a daughter. Yar she is defaming her mom. Yeh sab dikha key hum log carrier karney vali aurot ko defame karey. Aurat ko pichey khechney valey bohot log hotey hey. We you appreciate Shakuntala Devi for her talent n hard work.
She just insulted her mother in movie ..made her like villain !! And she showed her good side..!! In one dialogue she was like I don't wanna be like you !! Beta if you want also ..you can't be that genius like her !! What a waste daughter !! Bkwas movie !!!
