When there is no life left in the Ocean
There’ll be no magic potion
There’ll be stillness where once there was motion
When you’re working the water
It’s not safe to falter
You got to know the weather good
If you want to earn your food
Got to be careful you don’t drown
Or let the storms drag you down
It’s a wild and open sea
It once meant everything to me
Now it’s all gone in the wind
And I don’t know where I’ve been
Traveling on this road of potions
Heading directly away from the oceans
When there is no life left in the Ocean
There’ll be no magic potion
There’ll be stillness where once there was motion
Pulled my lines through the water
Supported my son and my daughter
Make the sea world my life
Took good care of my wife
Now I can’t get out to the channel
They carved up the wharves like flannel
I ran a deep drought and stayed most in the sound
Helped another pull out when he went aground
We brought in the shrimp and the crab and the lobster
Now we’re set aside like bones left go by a monster
There’s no fish anymore
Nowhere along the shore

We took what we could
And I guess it looked good
So bigger bigger boats came on
Taking up the Sea Bass and Salmon
Now the Sound is empty
Though the schools one there were plenty

I mortgaged my car, my house and my boat
There just wasn’t a way to keep it all afloat
When a factory ship comes in
You know you can’t win
As they carve up the shore and seabed
It’s when you know it that you’re bound to see red
The red fish and blue
The fishermen don’t know what to do
When they head to the doors of the warehouse
There’s nothing up there but the cat’s mouse
The fish dealers are done
They got them on the run

It’s not just a fear
Of not coming back here
That can chill the mind and shoulders
It’s the thought that they buried you under the boulders
Now we’ve gone far away from the water and the beach
Land speculators put the shoreline out of reach
What will they do when they want fancy food
When they realize they’ve taken everything that’s good
Thrown it down on the ground and stomped on it
They’ll be sure to get all upset and throw them a fit
But it won’t change their fate
It’ll just be too late
