Great video! I also had the Klymit V Luxe, ended up giving it to my brother for that lack of insulation problem you were talking about, I'm just too cold of a sleeper to have a sleeping pad with no insulation. I replaced it with my Exped Synmat UL pad, that also came with a pump sack so I don't have to use my breath and risk growing mold in my sleeping pad. Also! I really love Pack It Gourmet if you haven't tried those yet, love them. Some of them can be sodium heavy, but it's soooo good and I find that their cook time on the package seems to be more accurate than my experience with Backpacker's Pantry and Mountainhouse. I like those tank bags! Excellent idea!
Reminds me of the James Bond movie (The man with the golden gun). "A gun in a bag of peanuts. How original. What will they think of next?" That knife and pistol is next level travel. Travel safe.
Lots of good information, appreciate the links to the products too. Hoping if the world gets back to something that looks like normal, we might get some motorcycle camping in this year.
@@backcountryadvmoto Canada, Ontario specifically. We are still in full-on lockdown - which seems to be working. But hopefully by June things will loosen up, July, Aug for sure. Although at this rate I may not get holidays until Sept. My favourite time for camping anyway.
Those packing cubes make a great deal of sense and other Moto leaders like yourself use them. Do you happen to know the size of the cube that you use for clothes?
I had to laugh, we were chatting last night and i remember watching this and asking you about those dmada bags probably from my first channel attempt moto camping gear. Small moto camping youtube world. I am hoping to get Idaho Bdr in this year again doing the North part solo and then possibly flying in the wife for the darby section down which should be interesting 2 up on a 701 for the first time off road lol. If I get up there I will make sure to hit you up. This year I have been meeting as many viewers and other channels as time and cash allows which has been pretty fun considering until last year I was pretty much a shut in reclusive type lol. Great load out you have me considering the sea to summit pot for sure.
Best Rest Recovery kit is a great idea. I rode my AT off a retired rail bed embankment a couple of summers ago - bike upside for a long time before I could get to civilization and get my son and buddies out with some come-alongs. I carry my own "made up" version of the same now and hope I never have to use it!
Hey Kyle, thanks for the video. Nice camping setup btw! Are there any more issues with your right foot peg mount? saw your last video of the camel brace two weeks ago, which convinced me, to buy one of my own. But if it won´t work when you drop your bike, I wouldn't purchase it back here from Germany :D A friend of mine will first try to weld my broken foot peg mount before I buy a new one and after that I will add the brace (plus model).
Hey man. I own a Triumph Scrambler 1200XC and i can currently only put a tank bag, left side pannier and a small duffel bag or two on the back end of my seat. In short, not a ton of space. I want to go to the ADV rally in Julian California this upcoming November, assuming it isn’t canceled. What do you think is essential and/or I shouldn’t go off roading for a couple of days without?
+David Mailloux Man that’s a hard one because everyone’s needs are different. Some type of shelter/sleeping bag light cooking equipment and tools and first aid would be a start. Check out the Great Basin or Coyote bags from +Giantloopmoto for some great rackless luggage options www.giantloopmoto.com/product-category/saddlebag-systems/
Excellent video mate. We carry some of the same brand items and gear, do you also carry the #CyclePump by Best rest? super cool guy and awesome products , seeing this video helps me believe I am on the right path doing it right. Thanks again for the video.
Great video thanks. Could you also share in detail, what you carry in your toolcase and what u carry for tyre changing in another video when u have time... Ty
+Carde’ologist yes I totally spaced it and plan on doing a video soon. I think it’s because I carry it all the time so I just didn’t think about it. Being prior military and LE, I know how important it is be prepared for the worst.
Kyle, I love the video! Thank you for the details. I bought an Africa Twin and now I'm in the market for a new helmet, and I've been waiting for your review of the Krios Pro. I tried one on, and I have a slight hot spot on my forehead. Will that go away? For the price, I really want to love the Krios Pro, but I'm hesitant with the hot spot. ...or should I look at Arai XD4 or Shoei Hornet?
Hey Brian, Thanks for watching. I don't know about the hot spot, I didn't experience that. For me it was nice and plush from the moment i put it on. I know for some the helmet runs slightly big. For instance if you are a Large then consider going to a Medium and a XL to a L. Ive owned both the XD4 and the Hornet X2 in my opinon the Krios Pro is FAR better. Its way lighter than both and about as quiet as the X2 but breaths WAY better than the X2. The XD4 is a good helmet, but VERY loud. If the Krios fits you head shape go with the Krios hands down. In my opinion :)
Take the helmet that fit your head the best. Hotspots may ore may not go away, l have experience on bought. You can use your finger to push the helmet foam on the hotspots area, it may work, l have done it with luck on a shoei once. But l do recomend a helmet that fit your head at the beginning.
@@backcountryadvmoto Kyle, thank you very much for the detailed information, that is very helpful. I found a local bike shop that ordered an XD4 for me to try on, and they also have the Klim, so I'm going to go try on the XD4 tomorrow, but I'll try a size down on the Krios and see if that makes a difference. I'm really looking forward to your videos on the Utah BDR, that is ride I would like to do in the near future. Thanks again for taking the time to help me out with the helmet decision.
@@toby7504 Thanks for your view point too. I appreciate you taking the time to provide your experience. I wish that the Krios Pro fit perfectly, because the Spec Sheet tells me that it is by far the best ADV helmet on the market, but it's hard to fork over that much money when it might not be the best fit. I'll try on the other tomorrow and see if I can't make a wise decision. Thanks again for your time and helpful information.
@@brianmiller270 You are absout welcome sir. That krios is a fantastic helmet so l do understand that you want it. However im lucky to fit it perfect myself. Unfortunal l dont fit arai and shoei that god. At the moment l ride with a xlite x551 adv helmet that fit me perfect. That helmet is called x551GT now days. I use to work in a Suzuki/Honda dealer here in norway some years ago. We had krios, arai, shoei, xlite and more. Good luck on your testing, ride safe sir.
Thanks for the great video. I’m a life-long rider just now getting into adventure riding and camping. Where do you carry your sidearm? (I’m a CCP holder.)
bergoff I actually recorded this video on my iPhone lol. I’ve wanted to try it for a while and I think it turned out pretty well. I normally use either a GoPro or my Sony fdrx3000
Hey Kyle, what dates on you going to be on the UT BDR? I have a small group leaving on the 5th for the BDR. I ease curious if your timeline is such you will be back before we leave. Thanks, Bob
+Cody & Brooke Hanson no it really doesn’t. And I don’t always ride with one. On longer trips where I want to carry extra water I will. But I’ve recently moved to a fanny pack style water hydration system. Seems to work really well. If you are going to ride with a backpack make sure it has some type of harness that keeps it from bouncing around whether it be a kidney belt or similar
great video bro! I just got a 701 husqvarna and did part of the idaho bdr with tim collins what a blast!! I have to say I was hoping your video wasnt so bad ass but it is and i say nice job! You covered everything and all of it looks like a great system! I am Hoping to solo the Utah Bdr here shortly how did you like it?
