Moto G Stylus 5G (2024) Unboxing & Initial Review! One Fatal Flaw! 😬 

I have a TCL Stylus 5G I got for free when switched to T-Mobile. I use it as a secondary phone, I also have a Z-Flip 5. My TCL never got an OS update, it's still on Android 12, but it gets a security update every other month. I'm fine with it. In day to day use I can't tell Android 12, 13, or 14 apart. The moto G looks like an improvement over my TCL I might pick one up if I can trade in the TCL. Lower end phones have gotten useable in the last few years.

I think it's a good phone that offers a good amount of value but the con with all moto phones is the lack of long-term updates

It's a shame this phone is a lot better in many ways compared to the edge series. If only they made a phone just like this with a stronger chip for a bit more.

We change phones so much, waiting on the next best phone to come out so I don't think that's a problem with the updates.

I'm a long-term Galaxy Note user. I live in Japan, and the level of support and functionality for the S Pen, especially regarding translation or copy/paste functionality, has become pretty important. What I don't like is the (now) $1000+ price tag. If this phone offered anywhere near the same level of stylus integration and functionality, I would absolutely jump on it at that price. I came here tentatively hopeful. Glad I got the S22 Ultra already a couple of years ago and am still happy with it. I hope the Moto can step up its stylus game before my S22 reaches a failing point.

I hope moto continue to make the stylus phones. I have the think phone so it will be awhile until I invest in another phone

For those of you upset by what some "authority" complaints about "upgrades" and no upgrades for 5 years....Who cares? I got one at Best Buy for $349/256 model (list is $399). I can by 5 of these for the price of one stupid IPhone, which people I know HATE. There will definitely be a 2025 update. Do you seriously think you would keep a phone for 7 years??? I doubt it!! And, I was running a 2012 update/2021 version and it was FINE....the updates are mere tweaks, nothing earthshaking. A bit smaller than my old 2021. OK, I upgraded because of possibly using an ESim (yes, there is one).which now I don't think I ever will because of so many complaints about them...spotty reliability, bad customer support etc.) The headphone jack and stylus are GOLD! And the camera...I took some video today and easily zoomed in really close...and don't listen to the "picture quality" complaints. Ridiculous...it's FINE! Charging? the Motorola charger at Amazon (30W) and it is FAST Turbo Charging.

Can I ask why it is such a negative concerning the updates? I am currently still running with Android 6.0.1 on a 13 year old ZTE phone. Yes, I'm an older person and not a heavy user. Certainly not a gamer and don't put security risk things on a phone.

Ok one more thing a little off topic but it's about Motorola phones the Razer 2023 and the 2023 + are on sale at T-Mobile if your already a customer the Razer 2023 is at out right buying price of $399.00. Again. Thank you for daily videos and insight

I've got a moto G5 2023, and I'm thinking about up grading to a 2024. Is it worth the upgrade. 399 is cheep compared to the latest I phone or Samsung. Would you personally recommend me go for the 2024 model??

What sucks the most about the lack of updates (I assume) is you can't just root and install your own OS without losing the proprietary Motorola stylus features, which would defeat the entire purpose of a stylus-defined phone...

The 5g version of the moto 2023 had the same snapdragon 6 Gen 1, I wish they would have went with the 7 Gen 1 that was in the moto Razr 2023 (non plus) and yes I agree with only having 1 year of software updates that sucks for $400 maybe if you can get it less than $200 at Metropcs or similar for a port in then it's somewhat acceptable.

Crazy to see that it only has one year of updates... For as much of a following that the Note/Ultra versions of Samsung, having a stylus at a lower pricepoint could be a great way to pull customers over to Motorola... Sounds like they dont invest in support long term...😢

my note 10 plus finally started to die out wouldnt hold a charge.... made a decision to switch to Cricket Wireless from Verizon after 15 years lol.. got this as my FREE phone and now saving around 70 bucks on my bill too.. so at th is point this phone is WAY worth it lol

All the newer models seems to keeo getting bigger screens... Not the biggest fan of that tbh. Currently using the 2019 Moto G stylus and it was good but the lack of ram and lag is wanting me to upgrade but i just DONT want a bigger phone cuz the 2019 is oretty big by itself

The last moto stylus had the same processor which isn't a bad thing so your probably thinking about the 2022 or 2021 version which was underpowered but I just bought this phone and it's amazing 😍

That’s a great phone for someone that doesn’t need a smartphone for outside of general use (texting, phone calls, occasional social media use, etc). More for younger teens & older people that are light users. In general, how many people over the age of 65 use a phone the way we would use a phone.

I have the previous version and it's a budget phone with a stylus. Terrible battery efficiency with snap 6gen2. That's probably why they don't support it for long. I wish Motorola would just put a stylus on the thinkfone and slap a snap 8 gen 2 into it with 8GB ram and expandable storage. Job done.

My iphone se got security update last month. Its almost 10 years old. My Motorola hyper 1 ? I had it for 3 years now and it only got one security update 2 years ago😞. Here's to hoping a Tesla phone gets made .... Sometime soon.

My XT2131 Stylus was the worst phone ever. The processor was super slow. Couldn't watch videos in 4K. It didn't have a built in FILE. The screen was dark even at it's brightest. The stylus pen did nothing!!!!! It got weal signal. Any suggestions what device may suit me? I want large screen & SD slot. I never new that Verizon didn't have any phones with SD slots. How in hell can we store anything 😱?

Motorola put the pen and the speaker on the correct side. Samsung got it wrong.

I had the 2021 version of this phone. That battery was a beast. It lasted for a good two days with heavy streaming and gameplay. It didn't require a charging session everyday. Now it's just outdated because it doesn't have updates and it only had one speaker. But the display was 6.9 or 6.7, which was great for streaming. It was a nice phone, but had a few flaws.

Just think....the stylus is so popular that it is only a feature on two phones. Maybe it's time to move on from the palm pilot era😂

I have a moto edge 40 neo as my daily and the fact that I don't have android 14 is a big sheesh from Motorola. No peek display, no led notification 😕. I love your videos and I also love what Motorola has done with their new products as of late, with the exception of sticking to the same one year OS updates and 2-3 years of security patches? For the price you can get the thinkphone, still the reigning champ in the Motorola ecosystem in my book with a MUCH better processor, MUCH longer OS support and a 144Hz refresh rate with the beautiful build. The ONLY trade off would probably be the camera, which I already own two iPhones for so that isn’t a problem for me. I just wish someone could tell me where I could get a new 13 mini since Walmart plus decided to delete my account due to “suspicious activity” after trying to purchase a bladless fan! Ugh. Sorry for the rant but I appreciate your videos and valuable insight on these products as most other tech channels normally support whatever makes them a profit and tries to shove it down our throats. So keep it up my man! 💯

OK, I'm a little crazy. I bought both colors. Technically I bought the caramel latte and Motorola gave me the scarlet red or whatever the heck it's called Scarlet wave and decided not to return it to. I bought the caramel latte at Best Buy loveing this phone. Cool thing nobody's talking about you can also if you have the 256 GB unlocked version put eight gigs of boosted ram on this phone so technically the phone can run almost like 16 GB of ram thanks for the video man

I dropped my 2023 stylus in a bucket of sanitizer water then ran the faucet over it and it still worked. (Had a medium/ almost heavy duty otterbox on it tho) it was definitely water resistant and didnt give a damn about the rain til I cracked the screen cuz my case broke.

I hope for the 2025 model, they can give 3 OS updates and 4 to 5 years of security updates and not downgrade anything else.

The processor is the same as the Moto G Stylus 5G 2023, so the RAM going from 6GB to 8GB is the only significant update.

I totally agree that Motorola should give customers 3yrs of Android updates. I mean google gives Android to manufacturers for Free! Having said that, not too much changes in Android updates anyway. As techies, we may like new Android updates, but to the typical user, apps will support Android 15, for many years to come.

Typical motorola thing when it comes to all phones up to the G series. They all get only one major upgrade followed by a few years of security patches, most of them only quarterly (in Europe at least). While I do love motorola phones the lack of support is the main reason why I rarely buy one. If it would get al least 3 major updates and guaranteed monthly security patches in their lower ranges then I would own only motorola phones.

Thinking about replacing my replacement phone the Galaxy A54 5G with either the Galaxy A35 5G or when the Galaxy A16 comes out or the Motorola G Power 5G 2024 or Motorola G Stylus 5G 2024 or Motorola G 5G 2024 which should I get I'm a huge fan of both companies.

Motorola is going to continue to hold back their own sales in coming years untill they get their act together with those lame support duration, 2 years is also way too short, the least other phone companies are offering in 2024 is 4 years software support and a longer security update.
