Anyway I had a great time out on this one!
Thank you to Frasers Motorcycles of Gloucester for letting take the Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello out for a spin.

I have had my V100 for about three weeks. I think your review is pretty much spot on. I do have different impressions on a couple of items. Turn inis quite good for me, not too quick or slow. Slow speed stability is very good , in fact the best I have experienced with any bike. The only issue with mine is the gear shifting in the lower first three gears is very stiff. Actually for the first 200 miles it was impossible to put the in neutral when stopped. I have 500 miles on it now, unfortunately due to family I haven't been able to ride as much as I would like, the shifting is getting much better. Overall I am very happy with the bike, it is my 3rd Guzzi and I am glad to see that the company has moved into the 21st century. It has been a cutting edge company in the past and now again starting to live up to that reputation.

Hi Ricky, great review and a bike a would also love to test. The Stelvio version is going to be very popular I think 🤔 Kindest regards Carl FYI I still don’t get new video notifications even though I’m subscribed 😢 Keep up the great work

Great review, thanks! Took the S version for a spin a few months ago and really loved it. It's manageable, comfy, has plenty of power and doesn't fry your nuts in traffic like the rest of the Guzzi line. This engine in a V85 TT package (which I currently ride) would be a dream, and as you mentioned, they're rumored to be working on it (V100 Stelvio) for a 2024 release.

A lovely bike and a well done job from Guzzi.I test rode both, the V85TT and the V100. Both are modern Guzzis. There are still some things that are crucial just for Guzzis. Can check both on my channel. :)

I'm happy to know that you enjoyed the review! Yeah Guzzi has really come up with a great bike with this new platform - I look forward to seeing what comes out over the next few years.

Beware ownership if anything goes wrong your looking at waiting over a month for the part(s) to come from Italy, i had my V100 a month and then at the start of May 24, the exhaust sheared away from the collector box , 13th May 2024 they accepted the warranty and apparently its been sent 28th May , fingers crossed i will have it back soon. but a major disapointment after owner BMWs for the last twenty years with no problems like this

All the issues with the suspension just go away with the S model as you can adjust all the problems to your particular riding style. It is without doubt the most comfortable bike I have ridden with me the on bike endurance limited by the fuel capacity ( or my requirement to have a pee ). I recently took a ten day tour of Northern Spain on the bike, the luggage system is superb the panniers fitting securely in seconds. On the Motorways tour mode is good for both rider and passenger but my happy place for the twisty mountain roads was the road mode aiming to get the correct gear to exit the very tight bends at about 3000 rpm just as the torque starts to show. The bike encourages you to push it into bends and I eventually discovered that with full touring kit and a passenger the first thing to ground is the centre stand ( an option I would recommend) .

Ah, the good old Charlbury TT, great road. An intriguing bike. I must try one. Thinking it might replace two of my current bikes - a KTM790 Adventure that I use for touring and as a utility bike, and a Guzzi V7 Racer that's my modern retro fun bike. The only thing is with the KTM I don't mind taking out in any weather and getting it dirty, but the Mandello looks so nice I'd want to always keep it pristine. A bit like the MV Turismo Veloce I had a few years ago.

I got the same scare from the fuel gauge--abruptly shows empty when there's still some range. Opted for the taller windscreen, which in top position eliminates noise and buffeting so much that it's easy to exceed 100 mph without knowing it. Rock steady at freeways speeds. Heat on the legs is annoying at times. My other gripe is it kicks pretty hard when going from neutral to first at a stop. Overall very pleased but wonder if the 1250 RS would have been a better choice.

I think this bike is by far the most interesting one at the moment. Knowing me I’d hoever prefer it to have a more sporting riding position. So a future Le Mans version version would indeed be a good idea

Nice review vid & a very nice bike. I agree the standard version looks better & I wouldn't necessarily go for the S as I'm not desperate for any of the additional features you get with the S, or the price.

Adjusting the preload does not make the spring stiffer. It raises the ride height.

I sat on a V100 as I have seen a bunch of videos and was intrigued. I have a 2020 R1250 RS and my quick take is that the seating positions are very similar. The reach to the handlebars would have been close, except I have a bar riser on my BMW and would probably put one on the Guzzi IF I ever got one. I would be curious how higher speeds (e.g. over 50mph) would affect riding in terms of wind on the V100. I have an aftermarket set up on my Beemer that pretty much resolved wind/buffeting. I know people talk about the “character” or “charm” of riding the Guzzi and some have mentioned its “attractiveness.” I don’t think it is a better looking bike than the BMW and frankly I don’t think a bike’s looks matter at all. To me it is how it performs. My issue is that I see no sense in buying any motorcycle brand new. You can find well-maintained, low mileage used bikes of recent vintage pretty easily. That might be more tough with a Guzzi as there are relatively few of them in the U.S. I can get a very low mile-count, 1-2 year old RS here, with bags and other goodies already installed for under $16k. If I buy privately, I do not pay sales tax where I live too. I test rode a Tracer 9 (7 is not available in U.S.) and F900XR just to get a sense of what going to a lighter bike might be like. I preferred the Tracer but candidly neither bike made me think I would want to go in that direction anytime soon. The BMW R1250RS is so well-balanced and nice to ride that I cannot see myself on something cheaper and lighter. If money were no object, I would probably have 5 bikes in my garage and would happily buy a Guzzi.

Great review. You mentioned the bar position vs. the BMW RS. Any thoughts vs your R1250R? As nice as I think the Mandello is, I think the R/RS is the better bike overall.

Hi Paul, The V100 is a great first effort with this new platform... but the sheer grunt of the BMW 1250 engine is hard to resist though! I think I might sum up my thoughts in a little video soon 😊

I have put 45k miles on my R1200RS and ridden it to the edges of the tires routinely on the curvy roads of the Appalachians, and having put several hundred miles on a V100 can say the Moto Guzzi is much lighter on its feet and has an easy agility advantage over my BMW. But MG’s weather protection and fuel range fall short, suspension bump compliance and chassis control is nearly equal to experience, but the BMW is noticeably heavier steering and its weight unmistakably more evident when roads tighten up. As a long distance tourer I’d give the BMW the edge overall. But the V100 is more attractive and makes much nicer noises on induction and exhaust when giving it a serious twist of throttle.

What would you think of getting rid of the risers so the steering bar would be lowered about an inch ? In my opinion an upright sitting position, as it is now, gives harder bangs on one's back as when you bend forward your bumps go up on a bump and the spline doesn't get as hard a bang. Catching less wind might be me more comfortable on long high-speed runs.
@RikkyTang
@RikkyTang 11 месяцев назад
Well firstly be a bit worried that the bar would possibly hit the upper fairing on full lock without the risers. Certainly worth investigating though as that is a good idea. The R1250RS is already a bit more like that, although the RS does feel a bit of a bigger bike and the V100 does feel/look more elegant!

@@RikkyTang Isn't the crankshaft of any R hanging at least 10 higher up then a Moto Guzzi bike ? I just don't like the princiiples of a BMW, when you put it on a jiffy oil may get into the left cylinder, it's to wide. Only advantage is one can pick it up easier after you drop it. The only reason it has a low center of gravity is the extra axle below the crankshaft to get the front clutch connected with the transmission, it's additional weight. What I understand is the V100 has an excellent service-frienly solution for the wet clutch at the back. Only wondering weather the air-filter is easy to change.

As set from the factory, the aero flaps will not deploy in Sport or Road modes. In Rain mode they are open at any speed. In Tour mode they will open around 40 mph. Someone has changed those settings, as you noted. I've had my Mandello S since July 20 and pretty chuffed with it so far. Lots of "WTF was that" looks from other riders. 🤔

@@RikkyTang So far so good, though admittedly I have only accumulated about 600 km so far. There have been some early adopter's problems reported on the Moto Guzzi forums, namely coolant leaks, fuel tank leaks and various rideability issues. Hopefully those issues are being addressed on current builds. Cheers.

Even though it's a new era/generation for Moto Guzzi they seem to have retained their engineering soul whereas BMW traded their engineering soul for trendy GIZMOtronics and the ubiquitous, cheaper to produce, and provenly inferior telescopic forks on their 1200/1250 R-RS Boxers.
