We're off to a great start on this 2005 Sportster Bobber. A 3" under Moto Iron springer from TC Bros really sets off the stance of the hardtailed frame. These springers are really nice straight out of the box and with minimal investment on a few upgrades, you'll have a really nice front end for your build!

You wouldn't happen to be anywhere near Eastern Pennsylvania would you? 100 different builders could have looked at those rockers and not noticed that little bit of slop. But you not only saw it, but fixed it. You're the kind of guy I want working on my bike.

Moto Iron springers are very well-made. The rear legs are one piece, unlike a certain brand of springer which shall remain unnamed. I know of two of the aforementioned forks that broke -- the rear legs just below the bottom triple tree. Paughco makes a decent springer too. Great video here. Thanks Chuck!

Hi Chuck! I am installing a Moto Iron springer on a 2007 sporty and your video has been a huge help. TC Bros told me I need to purchase an adapter plate so I can re-install the stock riser onto the springer. I am able to bolt the original riser/speedo onto the top but the spring caps are just touching the riser. Can you offer any suggestions? Thanks!

Thanks for this. I've no experience machining stuff but I work on my bike myself and I wanted to get something I can just put on. Don't think I can do all this as I've no garage or the tools needed. Good to see this won't work for me before committing. However, your fix is awesome.. and looks very doable. Thanks again! -Ren '94 Sportster Hugger "Azul"

Heli-coil fix makes better, more solid attachment than bushings, tightened against shoulder bolts, the nuts lock it together. Those holes ought to be threaded from factory. Would be interesting to see a mechanic builder explanation of issues with long springers, the dreaded flop, trail and handling problems. How the famed Sugar Bear springers, and modified rockers with zero trail solved the flop issue, for better handling. Many videos about general rake and trail. Some about choppers mention the appearance and geometry of SB springers, but none explain it in any detail.

At 4:30 the excellent dust shield being installed! At 11:10 you begin to fix the slop with the rockers. At 15:09 "good fix" is completed!

Does the neck lock still work with the springer? I have a 48 sporty and I love that the front end locks to prevent theft . Will that still work with the springer?
@charleslawrence6553
@charleslawrence6553 3 года назад
No, the stem is not drilled for the neck lock on the one I got. But if you took some measurements off the original stem, it wouldn’t be a hard to mill the slot in the new stem. Any machine shop could handle it.

Did you think about using the neck spacer on the top? From the video it looks pretty close to the washer you machined. Nice work on getting the caliper bracket to fit.

I really like the helicoil idea! Easier then making bushings and almost as easy to replace should they get a lil wear thousands and thousands of miles from now... I almost got one of these springers from tc bros but our roads are pretty rough here from frost heaves in the winter.. plus I wanted to do an 8 over front so I went with extended tubes instead.. Great video man, you got a new subscriber for sure

planning on getting one of these front ends for my 2012 72. not super knowledgeable about everything. can you run a stock caliper and front brake setup on this fork? or do you need to have a different type of brake setup.

I believe yo can run the stock stuff. Check out the TCBros website, I think it says so.

Seems like it would over bind by threading the bolts in, I like the idea of sleeving to tighten the space but still allowing it to move. But I'm a concrete guy that don't know crap about doing the bad azz stuff you do

What do you think the minimal clearance is you can run between the shoulder bolts and the rotor I need to space the wheel over a quarter inch and when I do that will only leave me about 1/8 inch between the rotor and the shoulder bolts your thoughts on this

Not bad. Its pretty smooth and handles well. But If you hit a bump hard there is alot of rebound. The addition of a shock would help alot.

petty well for an aftermarket springer, i think being thats its 3 under adds to the rigidity. So its pretty tight in the curves,
