We lined up all seven of the new 2024 250 four-stroke dirt bikes for our 2024 MXA 250 Shootout video to provide a comprehensive review of the pros and cons of each motorcycle. We live with these bikes year-round, and we constantly have test riders riding, racing, and testing them. For 2024, only the GasGas and Yamaha received major updates, so our main focus was to see how those bikes compare to the KTM, Husqvarna, Kawasaki, Honda, and Suzuki models. For a more in-depth Shootout article, subscribe to Motocross Action Magazine and find everything you need to know in the January issue.

It’s always about performance, never about maintenance, easy to work on, reliability, costs of parts, cleaning etc. For the weekend warriors, way more important than hp.

100% agreed! I’m more worried about value, maintenance, and longevity/reliability rather than tune maps, peak hp, and other insignificant features. There is a $3000 cost differential between the Suzuki and the Husky!!!

This is very very false and another scapegoat answer for the other manufacturers. They have posted extended videos, explaining that. Yes there are other bikes that you can add for example, a sprocket to or a pipe, too, or some thing and it can become better, if you ride, you should know better and should know that any bike is great. As long as you have a positive perception of your bike get the set up right and believe that the equipment under you is Good enough to do the job at hand and you are willing to work on your own form and abilities. This is a test for stock 100,000,000% stock, and right off the showroom floor. There is no doubt that the Austrian bikes have more race parts are more reliable and are a better option if you are willing to pay the price tag, which is not very significant difference these days as the other brands have increased their pricing. People need to get over themselves and stop hating on some thing because they don’t like it or can’t afford it.

Every single one of this guy’s shoutouts are the same. Ktm husky gasgas 1 2 3. Swap always picks the kx450. Keefer will always pick Yamaha. By “as always” did you mean “different to just last year”…? Yamaha was 3rd last year and the Suzuki comes last in literally every shootout because it hasn’t been updated in forever. My opinion, if it matters or not, if youre a serious racer you modify your bike. Modify everything. No mention about the value proposition that Suzuki offers. It’s a great bike for those who are weekend warriors. When some of the other competitors are 35% more expensive, you have to at least mention price. Suzuki makes a good bike, with a good power band curve. I’d rather have that then peaky high rpm that will be harder on engine components.

KX has a stiff fork - just because it's kyb doesn't mean the "setting" is desireable. Kawasaki decides what valving combo the bike comes with. Additionally - the chassis plays a big role in felt stiffness - the kx gives more feedback than the yamaha chassis does - in exchange for what I feel is better trust of the stability. I think if they did a "mod bike" shootout - with say 5k budget - it could be really interesting. Pipe, clamps, suspension and some minor motor work would be about that budget. All the bikes would get a lot closer as the slower ones respond bigger to work than the faster ones.

I stopped the vid on the Yamaha dyno chart and I have q's. The date and time of the tests compared to the results make me wonder if it was just a fuel/oxygen difference, bc the dyno graphs could almost pass for the same engine.

Kinda makes me wonder if you'd like the "trail" versions of stone of these bikes better. They (usually) have a tooth or two lower gearing and softer forks, which was pretty much your complaint for the whole bottom half of the list.

I have ALWAYS been a yellow fan, i feel like taking kickers away from all the bikes takes out of some of the "dirtbike" feel. A kicker as a secondary just to know i can is ideal. That being said suzuki definitely needs to add e-start but keep the kicker as back up.

@genefuzer4287

Goes to show differing opinions. I personally think the Suzuki is the best bike all round. Plenty of power and it’s low and medium power is great so you can ride it in any setting or any track. Not sure why they say it has a ‘lack of power’ you can hardly tell unless you’re a pro ringing their neck for every bit of power. Yes, I’d like e-start and I hope they implement it soon but that’s it. Every single bike you have to mess with suspension to make it good for the individual riding. But imo the forks aren’t even half as stiff as they are made out to be and I’m not heavy, I’m only around 170lbs at 5’11. The CRF is a great bike as well. Crazy they are last and second to last, I’d put the zookie first and CRF second. My mate has the KTM and it’s not great imo, I’d have the Suzuki all day compared to his KTM.

Honda specifically stated that they switched to a dual overhead cam five years ago because it increases the power in the higher RPM’s, and that they sacrificed some of the low end performance when they switched from the unicam, which was a “low to mid” range bike.. 😂
