You know what would really help with this? ANY kind of controller calibration options in game, maybe a sensitivity slider or options to adjust deadzones.
1. Heavy braking, always have the bike with a bit of lean, will bring the rear around and moves the balance of the bike making stoppies less frequent 2. In the set-up,use smaller front disc's,will be easier to ride harder but will still need moderate amount of management 3. Power mapping is a good way to preserve rear Tyre Temps, biggest issue for rear loss of traction nearly always is overheating, keep your temp cool and your tyres will give you better performance 4. Most of the issues that people have with braking/acceleration can't be dialed out with set-up's,play around with them and you will make the bike suit your style of riding Robo's tips are the fundamentals and should work for majority but the tips above are more niche tips that may help a small few Good luck!
@Stephen Williams unfortunately no such thing as a good set-up, everyone's riding style is different, unlike other games, there's no one fix all set-up
@@colind5788 I found when I did a gp I annoyingly needed traction control on which I know isn't right for moto2, guess I just need more practice balancing the throttle
Okay,I have an idea for an advanced episode, "How to 500cc around tight tracks like Sachsenring with 'real' assists" those things are bloody murder machines and you cannot shortshift them because their powerband is so small. Damn, Unrideables. If they made an esport category for them, there you'd truely see who has the best throttle control.
Breaking in this game is so much more realistic. I find myself trail breaking like I do when I'm out on track. I like the fact that you can't just jam on the front brake. You can't do that on a real bike either.
Thats what Im trying to say to haha.. its true.. the physics of this game is realistic. Unlike MotoGP 19.. I always use the front break very hard but it wont life the rear wheel
It's taken me a while but I'm pretty settled into my play style now. I ride for a bit, crash, ride for a bit crash. I am shite at tarmac motorcycle games but I never let them beat me. I will take your lessons to the track and probably crash, not because of your hints/tips but because my brain is small and filled with knowledge of racing on four wheels and wrapped up in a cage. Anyway fresh Sub here.
Thank you for the advice on the breaking, I have a disability when limits my my dexterity using the PS4 controller. I've mapped the rear brake to the backward weight transfer (weight transfer doesn't work anyway its the wrong way round) on the steering and with a bit of practice I've improved my lap times no end, what a difference well chuffed thank you.
Thanks robo just what I needed as nobody really explained this before. Have asked in a few vids about bike setup settings too. As always superb content
Two complaints about braking in motogp20: rear brake is too weak and front brake lacks feel. Hard to tell when you are going to lose grip. Aggressive braking is very risky.
Dusan Todorovic yeah it was better in 19. I fell a few times do to hard braking. Instead of the controller vibrating intensely when you’re about to lose grip, it vibrates the whole time and it’s hard to tell.
It's more realistic I'm still not used to it but started understanding it. IRL they never go fully to the max braking pressure so it's just to us to adapt
The rear brake on bikes are weak in real life. You'd only really use it at low speed, at the very entrance to a corner or mid corner to tighten your line
@@Random63R400 huh? definitely on motogp bikes. It's the same thing. Even more so. The weight is on the front for braking, there is no benefit to having a strong rear brake, it will just lock the wheel. Look up any motogp riders style, the front brake is used for actual braking. It's why they can dangle their leg off the bike before the corner. Obviously if the foot is off the bike, the rear brake isn't being used(apart from the few that use a thumb brake) . The rear brake is literally used to manage the way the bike squats and to tighten a line in cornering.
Oh gosh, I actually forgot to thank you here for the information. I actually use the short-shifting quite often. ^-^ Though going in a bit too deep in corners to prepare a run is something I actually used for a while, the thing you said about the hairpin corners. It is not only for them, sometimes, many times in a race you can use that strategy to get pass some riders (even more in MotoGP20 than in the earlier games). :D But true as it is. I love to let more speed in the bike for the corners, then accelerate faster as well, because of Aprilia. Although I am not having an aggressive riding style in the way usually people are, I mainly pass people like that, but that means I am at least 3 tenths faster in that sector than the racer in front of me, or just a lot faster out of that specific corner. :D Everyone with their own riding style really. :) But this tutorial is actually good, and really clear.
Hi, Thanks for this video. I picked up this game a week ago...Usually play and get the Platinum trophy each year, but I have troubles with this game so far. Hope someone can advise on the following...At this moment getting used to the braking is very frustrating. Although I support the idea of this braking mechanism being more realistic, I think Milestone really failed implementing it well here, they should have implemented that the controller vibrates when braking to hard, just like in de F1 games in which you feel when the brakes are about to lockup... I struggle with the acceleration too, especially with the 500cc bikes. They wheelie all the time exiting slow corners, throttle seems to feel binary (on/off). Also the sound is very bad (useless) when you apply a little throttle, the sound is just less loud, the rpm progression of the bike sounds unreal and badly mapped to the PS4 R2 button/trigger. All tips/help are welcome and appreciated!
Great tutorial Robo - Those who have ridden a motorcycle on the road or track will understand the importance of the rear brake & how its used for corner entry (BTW Simon Crafar has posted an excellent tutorial via MotoVudu on rear braking)...Looks like MotoGP mirrors real world physics pretty well...
For anyone struggling with braking on ps4 with the gp bikes, I found a cheap 3rd party control pad from a shop that rhymes with wee and phlegm was a lot better under braking as the triggers have more resistance. Far easier to hold at 60-70% than the sony pad which maxes the brakes out too soon and has flimsy triggers. Won't make you crash proof but without it i wouldn't even play the game at all.
I just bought this game.. man.. breaking is hard.. I mean, with the autobreaking it is a wall in the park.. but when it comes to more realistic riding, it is tough as hell.. tks for your vid!
@@schumifan78 I mean regard all the mechanics behind it... i already improved in the last days.. but is still hard to make the corners entrances hard.. i.e, I keep crashing and going straight into the sand/grass...
What about weight shifting? On motoGP 19 you can push forward and back on the left stick. If you tuck in it actually sits up? So thats a bit wierd. Pushing forward on the brakes will make you stoppie though so does have an effect. Maybe can shorten braking zone? but can only really use in a straight line as its on the steering stick.
I don't now if you say that cause I'm french and don't understand all, but for me, I touch just half second the rear brake, and after the front brake at 90/95%, and dégressive brake until to apex corner
Try to brake hard on front first and the bike start to lift the rear brake hard with the rear and flow with the corner because the bike corner much better with the rear breaks , so make sense to me to real last with the rear for better flow cornering
Hi Robo! Could you please make tutorial for gear shifting? I've got like 70h+ on motogp 19 and now I'm playing lot a of motogp20 but I've never shifting manually. Some tips would be nice! :)
Just try it. Hop into time trial and and just do laps. You will fail at first shifting to late and hitting the rev-limiter or messing up braking zone cause you are shifting too fast or too slow, but at some point you will find out what gears to use through which corners and how fast you can downshift without unsettling the bike. The great thing is, once you learned it on one game, you can use it on any game.
I learn shifting in f1 games and it really help improve my lap times. And it wasn't that hard, but on gamepad its something different... i'll try my best to learn shifting on motogp games. But thanks for respond all of you guys!
@Stephen Williams yup, I'm not asking for anybody's bank details & realise whatever they post will never be tailor made for me ffs but what I'd like is at least an explanation of what does what !! Unless you've played this series for more than 2 seasons (like me) your in the dark, this is we're the learning curve is too steep.. theres obviously some niche inside info somewhere because how comes the Esport guys got so good so quickly, Vale reckons he learn't the game in a few weeks, bullshit ??
@@hoodedcobra1531 dude I've had motorbikes for years, ex car mechanic, & tuning since the days of Geoff Cramond but what I'm saying is you can't excell at anything without a baseline initial understanding !!!
I don’t feel the bikes spin up to enough. All I want to do is light up the rear out of corners like stoner lol 😂 Also under hard braking on tight corners I move the bike left and right to slide the rear
I usually play the mx/sx/sim games no Motogp games so this helps but fycisics are similar I’m a kid and I play a bunch of Mx/sx/ so this is now to me and I’m mxbikes I have 178 houre most on any game I’ve had
I've tried this before, and I can go around the corner perfectly but looking at the replay, the AI seems to come at full throttle. At losail, I get so annoyed because I'm almost lifting the back wheel, breaking as hard and as late as possible and the AI is still able to shorten the distance by 100m, sometimes more. and this is at 100%.
I thought it was just me that notice that and the AI is ridiculous with it. I'm taking those corners 150 and the AI is taking the corners going 300. I'm like what the fuck. Smh.
so this is the problem when i use my keyboard instead of a controller. when i use a keyboard, the throttle and brakes is either 0% or 100%, it cant go halfway or else. well, i think i have to buy a controller to continue MotoGP class career. thanks Robo46, you helped me!
same here, just searching for a fkn controller on the internets lol ...I think its the best thing to do, just do what ever others are doing (in this case) ...you cant even drive moto2 with keyboard.
Heyy...nice review... wanna ask u how to manage the controller I means accelerate button .. rear brake button.. front brake button... gear up ...gear button ..Which one the best way to hitt time.when your level is pro... Now use like accelerate is X.. front brake SQUARE... hw do u mannage the button controller..Thanks mate
Thanks for the content, very interesting! I just got the game couple of days ago and started a career at motoGP 3, the MotoGP with big wheel are so different to drive, you really got to use that read break more (even more than I thought thanks to your video)! For Moto GP 3 I really didn't need more than a second or sometime a tap on rear brake. Fastest bike send you stoppie so easily ..! One thing making me curious tho, the run you do on the video is from a mode where you don't have the best bike available ? Cause I just tried MotoGP (instead of my career 3, full power beasts) on a time trial some hours ago and I did after a few learning and setting laps in time trial on that map you are running 1:28.5. I just took a Ducatti and tuned it progressively. I don't believe I can beat a veteran of this game with only a bit of Gran Turismo experience prior as sim racing. Do you know the reason I would score such a shorter time? Unless time trials have separate scores for the brand you are driving but that doesn't sound logical. Edit: Nvm, it was another track ahah; so many kind of look alike for a newcomer (yet I've seen some tracks used for car racing present in Gran turismo which is great stuff, I won't feel totally new there!). Anyway, great pedagogy and knowledge, ty. I'm subbing !
Hi ❣️ dont know if this vid is right for my question 🙈 But .. If picking up a Bike game should i buy Moto Gp 19 or 20 🤔 or even Ride 4 Im More for arcade then simulation but there isnt many Bike games out there lol Love the Tourist Trophy game n still playing it sometimes but want test new generation console bike game 🤭 Great Video btw , im sure its very helpful 👏
If you’re looking for an arcade game which is similar to Tourist Trophy I would suggest RIDE 4, the MotoGP games can be very hard especially the braking, RIDE 4 is more forgiving, Hope that helps 👍
Hi, i am new to the MotoGP community. I dont know how to made a good start in this MotoGP 2020 game. I always lose a lost of positions either with manual or auto start. Guys, how not to lose positions during the start phase? Thanks for the videos by the way, its really nice to watch them.
What is the best setup for button configuration? I struggle with front and rear brake setup but now I use square fpr the front brake and triangle for the rear. Dissadvantage of this buttons are locking, because I cant regulate the pressure of bitton so I nees to tap them.
How do you stop wheelies, I’m in moto2 with AW upgraded and on 4 and the wheel constantly lifts, you go so slowly and until you hit 100mph it goes down! Stupid
MoToToM Then i think its a bug. I believe there are many bugs in the physics in this game. For example i have big problem in MotoGP now. I have Ducati. I’m pretty good in braking in this game. Fully understand the braking mechanics. Always braking 70-80% BUT.. One lap, braking is perfect and next lap in this same spot my rear wheel goes up right away. And braking is same maybe less %. It doesnt make any sense! And next lap again everything Is fine.
Hello are you using Xbox controller? If so how come you can modulate your braking I cannot even do that on mine its always on full brake every time i press on the front and rear. Is there a setting on how you can modulate braking?
In my opinion, and i'm no expert by any means, MotoGP 20 got it wrong with the front brake, a.f.a.i.k. riders use the rear brake mainly for small adjustment to ride the apex and not actually stop the bike coming 200 mph into a corner. While the rear does help braking, it's not meant to be used as a 'main' braking system. If i'm wrong, please share your experience but that is how i brake IRL facebook.com/PramacRacing/videos/10154872096403304/?v=10154872096403304
Yes exactly! Wonder why nobody mentioned this. Its stupid that I need to brake with rear almost every corner. Also I play on pro with manual shifting and I struggle to shift down and brake with rear at the same moment on my controller!
I recently bough moto 19 for Xbox on a digital sale. Is there no ai crashes at all? Haven’t seen one yet but I have seen many in videos on MotoGP 20. That alone may force me to upgrade to the newer game sooner than I wanted to.
For me this isn't a step in the right direction for the game and i felt the overall physics of 19 is better. Interested if they patch this due to the community comments and I think i'll stick with 19 unless they do.
@@ROBO46 me too . I have the default buttons . I just made here 100 mistakes because i am new to this game and i am super confused . One final question man . If you are with full throttle in a big straight , when you decide to break for the next turn you break with both breaks ? I mean you break with A+LT together ? Or you use only front break ?
Here's the most important tip. Stick to MotoGP 19 because 20 is unsalvageable garbage. There's absolutely no reason to even try getting used to it. You can't because it's physics and even the way the controls function is BAD. The only thing you're achieving is getting angry and frustrated. Except of course if you're one of those guys who think that the more insane a game handles the more realistic it is. If you're one of those then you might as well go play NFS Heat.
Thanks for this! One question: how do you balance downshifting and rear brake using the default control settings as it's difficult to do both at the same time?
It's a bit overwhelming at first but after a while it becomes muscle memory, u just gotta keep at it. Use the joint further up the thumb for rear braking and the tip of ur thumb for downshifting. Try to excercise downshifting with the tip of ur thumb while u keep the joint area fairly flat over the rear brake button. At this point you should be comfortable with operating ur throttle, front brake and steering. After that it's just about implementing these extra button sequences into ur normal riding, shouldn't take too long!
I don't know about the default setting but I swapped the rear brake and the rewind button since I don't use it and it becomes much easier. As arip said, it will become muscle memory even though it'll seem weird/hard at first
If you’re on PS4 change rear braking to “R1” and down shifting to “O”. I started using this button layout in motogp18, seriously helped me out so much.
I’m assuming your talking about how easy the rear will slide out?? If so, my advice is just learn to be really smooth on throttle, mid corner especially, can’t just get on the gas super hard.
@@s_wggns I was doing that but the problem actually came from a faulty USB port on my PC connecting to the controller. I ended up switching the port and everything is back to normal and now easier to ride. I should have checked that in the first place.
Anyone else getting smoked on the straight? I can be 2 seconds or more ahead and no matter what, about 10 AI catch up and pass me. Its in pwr 2, could it be a gear ratio thing?
Why Milestone made this into a frustrating Braking Game boggles my mind !! The 2020 Moto GP is nothing like this and if I would have known, this game would not be in my library ! Very Disappointing Purchase !
that game is a piece of shit garbage game really. you simply CANT control the bike. acceleration is slow, your opponents pass you like you are with an 50cc bike, front brake is a joke, whatever setup you choose in career mode you cant compete with the others.
Robo, are you having any problems with an infinite saving screen in career mode. I cant get through one race weekend without this happening. I'll finish a race or practice and then the saving screen will pop up and just sit there, will not save anything and force me to restart the game completely. A race win or development data down the drain and lost. Im on xbox one x also. Milestone says there looking into it, but that means i cant play career mode untill they do somthing about this.
I’m an absolute amateur at this game, the last time I played Max Biaggi was riding on a bike that’s now in the historic section and Rossi was at Repsol Honda I think 😂
Same here. :) Just got an Xbox one X same day as Motogp 20. One of my biggest problems is the last game I played the throttle was a button in the place gear change up is on Xbox controller. I keep going to get hard on throttle out of corners and end up going up 1 or 2 gears.
Haha Haha!! You beat me too it Robo. Still going g to upload my tut, as I have a diff take/approach but i learnt something from you, about the rear locking with engine breaking...so thanks, and I need to take another look at that section :-) Top vid.
Haha thanks mate!!! Yeah like I said in the video everyone has different play styles so the more different technique tutorials out there the better 👍 glad you learnt something though!
