What about Ai Ogura?? He seems to have his team mate covered now and getting wins and podiums I’m tipping him as Moto2 champion, as for Aldegaer I’m not so sure yeah he was good at the end of last year but makes too many mistakes and what happened to riders wanting to be champion in the lower classes before going to the premier class?

If you look at the timing of everything I think it was a simple fomo reaction by ducati. After KTM signed Acosta as their future super talent ducati wanted one as well. And Pedro and Fermin have always been put up against each other as future superstars even as kids in the junior series and so Ducati didn't want to miss out

I don’t think it’s a mistake, I think he’s probably a safe choice? He will either end up being one of the strongest riders or he will be middle of the table and collecting points like A.Marquez he’s still really young and has a lot of potential

If you can see he would win catalunya and assen if he took no track limits and in mugello he was hurting his neck so with all that he would probably be at the top of the standings but i don't think its a mistake🙂

Couldn’t agree more. I’m the same age as him and can’t even imagine the amount of pressure he’s under! Think he’ll be right up there at the end of the season and win it, find it convenient how people have forgotten about his win in Jerez too..🤔😂

For the bikes available I think he can slot in with Alex Marquez at Gresini. I don’t think he was the reason for Ducati to lose Jorge, Enea and Pramac
@azzyrobb
@azzyrobb Месяц назад
I agree, he will fit in well at Gresini. I just think with 8 Ducatis on the grid they thought everything would work out, now they’re down to 6 they could potentially be in a pickle with all the talent wanting a ride. Cant wait to see him in a GP bike, its great when rookies come in makes it exciting!

I don't believe it to a mistake. You don't win 4 races in a row and call it a fluke against world class talent. I see it more as a bet for 2027 onwards. I feel Ducati is going through a restructuring process after being so dominant for the past couple of years. Mantaining a line up of 8 bikes with riders like Pecco, Martin, Enea, Marc, etc. Must be really expensive, even if they're allowed to lowball rider salaries because of how good the bike is. And I believe they still want to be competitive when the new regs come. Feels like they wanted to secure Marc, who is known for outperforming the horrible Honda he had in the past couple of years, and keep Pecco, whom the bike is built around, to endure until 2026 with minimal bike development. They're probably going to use the funds they'll save for not wielding 2 extra bikes and paying Martin and Enea for the 2027 bike project. If Aldeguer is going to be Ducati's new guiding light by then or not, depends entirely on his performance, and how well Pecco (and, possibly Marc) fare in the next couple of years. I believe the 2027 Ducati line up will be entirely fresh with new talent. 2027 is ample time for more talents to develop. Sergio Garcia, Tony Arbolino, Celestino Vietti. Even going back to Moto3 you find immense potential with riders like Alonso, Veijer and Ortola, who I believe we could see in MotoGP by 2027 or so, granted they find success in Moto2. (Which I believe they will).
@DrAce46
@DrAce46 Месяц назад
I agree, it’s a smart investment for the future. If he slots into the Gresini team they can build him up with little pressure so he can develop even further

I wouldn't say they made a mistake, I think Fermin is a cracking talent who can put it all together... Buuuuut, I think nowadays there's such a hard push for putting young riders on bigger bikes without necessarily looking at the racecraft required, let alone the pressures that it puts on a rider. Fermin is one of those kids, jumping Moto3 to immediately go to Moto2 at 16 years of age, and he has admittedly been smashing it despite his young age and inexperience. But now that the pressure has ramped up even more (Having such a fantastic end to 2023, getting signed by Ducati, and the expectations increasing further) it is clearly having some effect on him to push himself to possibly too high heights too quickly. Everyone wants to believe a kid is the next Marc Marquez and Valentino Rossi, and that makes them make choices that might not be the best for a rider's growth. You've had cases like Jack Miller who clearly couldn't cope long term with the expectations of being a young star, and Pedro Acosta (despite a cracking start to 2024) has been slipping back in the order now that the early high of being in MotoGP has worn off. I think generally MotoGP teams (and honestly, Moto2 teams too) should chill out on the constant race to the bottom in terms of rider age, and simply let them work it out at lower classes without the constant demands for perfection. For example, Zonta came in as a 16yo hotshot kid in Moto2 and he has been struggling, meanwhile the older Collin Veijer came into Moto3 only last year, and he's smashing it and seems in line for a move up to Moto2. Of course a huge part is just talent, but experience matters in this sport and it's often underrated. And keeping a rider down in Moto2 a year or multiple years longer should not be a death sentence, because if they have a good team, the quality will still shine through as they get more experienced, and in turn more capable on heavy bikes, which should only help them into MotoGP. I feel MotoGP in that regard is becoming a bit too much like F1, that attitude that you have to get them on the bikes as quickly and as young as possible if they want to stand a chance. But, at the same time, Ducati knows things that we out of the bubble don't. They picked him up for a reason, they see something in him that the rest of the world possibly doesn't see. And honestly, if there's a sattelite willing to give him a ride, then might as well take the plunge.
@DrAce46

I agree, I hate this constant push for riders to replace anyone who has an off year in the premier class. Everything is so rushed and we say talent dumped after a year or two because they can’t fill the spot that other people pressure them into taking

I think Ai Ogura is one of the most underrated rider in moto2, he has maturity and mentality to be a MotoGP rider, but he is considered for only Honda team , that's sad 😔 In my opinion he be better suited for MotoGP class compared to Fermin aldeguer or Garcia What's your opinion?
@deknegt
@deknegt Месяц назад
Ai Ogura has said it himself that he wants to finish his Moto2 career when he gets the title. It's a good attitude to have, to not just settle for being a good rider, but being a Moto2 rider. I honestly think he has the talent for more bikes than getting the Idemitsu one purely because he's Japanese. Part of me hopes Yamaha takes the risk with him now that they got Pramac, and gives him a ride for 2025. It would be amazing if he could show that he's not just the token Japanese rider.

@kurisu4664

I don't think they are "losing". I believe they're playing the long game. They already have the current best bike and best riders. If anything, it feels Ducati reinforced themselves with Marquez, and brought in Aldeguer for different reasons. I firmly believe they are planning ahead for 2027 already. They got Marc and Pecco on the current best bikes to duke it out until 2026, and went with the Aldeguer bet for 2027+. Mantaining a line up of 8 bikes, with riders such as Pecco, Marc, Jorge and Enea is really expensive. Even if Ducati doesn't have to pay extra high salaries due to how dominant the bike is. Ducati gets to save on some of their expenses, and realocate them towards the 2027 bike.
