Got Fleet for Christmas. Love it. I didn’t back Three Sisters, but am looking to buy it. I assume it should be released soon. Like both those themes, but not a car guy. Would have a hard time buying Motor City unless it’s just insanely good.
I can't remember if I mentioned in the video or not, but Three Sisters and Fleet: The Dice Game have more in common than Three Sisters and Motor City do (even though those 2 also have quite a few similarities). I enjoyed Three Sisters more but keep in mind that was just a prototype for Motor City.
I like the theme. But I'm hit and miss on Roll and Writes. So I'll probably wait till it releases and try it out first. But the idea certainly has me intrigued.
If you're hit and miss with them, then I think you're making a good choice to wait this one out for now. Three Sisters came to retail recently (not long after my KS copy arrived), I imagine Motor City will be in retail eventually too.
The theme of this game really catches my attention. Manufacture and distribution on a large scale. I might wish it were dry erase, but that’s a mere quibble. R’n’W games generally remind me of the activities the nuns would set me to when I wouldn’t stop eating paste. But lately games such as this and Hadrian’s Wall have made me think I could enjoy an evening with pen an paper while savoring a fine vintage LePage. Cons: I think the art design is well done however all the iconography makes my head swim (not mucilage related). Saying it gets better over time doesn’t wash. New games don’t have the luxury of time as there are so many other games out there waiting for a chance to amaze. I would be willing to bet there is only one rulebook and/or Rosetta Stone player aid. One thing that really annoys me is players arguing over whose turn it is with the secret decoder ring and rulebook. It hinders immersion in the theme which is what brought me to this particular game in the first place.
I actually didn't find the iconography too bad here because usually when you cross off a symbol it just means you now get to cross off another symbol elsewhere, and once you know how to find the symbols or which ones belong where, it's not too bad. I also don't like having to constantly check rules but I didn't find that to be the case with this game. Either way, if ever you find yourself eating paste again, this could be a good alternative. 😁
Good review, nicely presented! We have both Fleet: The Dice Game and Three Sisters and like them both. This looks like a great edition to the series. I'm looking forward to the extra challenge this one presents.
Thanks! It definitely fits in well with the trilogy, offering enough similarities to tie in some familiarity but also enough differences to set it apart.
Is there something specific in the rules that tripped you up? I love the game so much that I would be happy to try and help you figure out the rules better, if possible. Once the game clicks it's very enjoyable.
@@morkar90If you could help me with it then that would be great. 👍 Some people in RU-vid videos about this game talk way too fast and I just find it mind boggling.
@@danielholmes-nj5nq It's definitely a complex game! I would be happy to try and help you out, if possible. I'm thinking what's the best way to do this... I could for example ask you some questions over private message (to get an idea of what you do and don't understand about the game), then I could write up a guide for you based on that? Or, if you are up for it, we could try and have a game of it over zoom or something were I teach you it in real-time. I'm in the Nordics, just fyi, and hopefully time zone issues won't be too tricky! The way I like to teach it is in stages that breaks things down a bit. So first you fully understand the overall flow of the game, then you get comfortable with how the different areas of the sheet work (engineering, sales, etc). And just do it all at your speed. There's some tricks I use to help in learning all of that (like physically moving the die you draft to different parts of your sheet during your turn, to help you keep track of what you are doing). But let me know how you would like me to help you. I teach people board games fairly regularly, but I've never done so over the internet.
@@morkar90 You could maybe write up a guide for me, that would be much appreciated. Rolling the dice and placing them in the appropriate sections on the board is literally as far as I've ever got before I get stumped and frustrated.
