Presentation by Steven Chase, Assistant Professor, Center for the Neural Basis of Cognition and Biomedical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. Chase uses brain-computer interfaces to study motor learning and skill acquisition. His work stands to provide a better understanding of how movement information is represented in networks of neurons in the brain and will inform the development of neural prosthetics.
Carnegie Mellon’s BrainHub research initiative builds on the university’s strengths in biology, computer science, psychology, statistics and engineering to study on how the structure and activity of the brain give rise to complex behaviors, and develops new technologies that stand to transform neuroscience.

I was doing research on using EEG devices to collect motor control input and translate it into movement of a rigid body contained within a virtual 3d plane. This is where I ended up. Imagine if we could directly input information into the brain with return electrical signals to the parts of the brain that handle the body's receptors. The blind could use devices to augment their reality and visually receive real-time data of the world around them. Etc.

I am awed by this video. It is exciting to learn how technology can improve their lives of people who have lost motor skill abilities. I look forward to seeing more of this type of research in the future.
