The MEDIAN and ULNAR nerves can be blocked close to the wrist, which will preserve motor function in the forearm flexor muscles. This is useful in minor hand surgery, or in more specialized surgery (e.g. tenolysis and tendon releases) where intraoperative motor testing is desired by the surgeon.
Complete motor-sparing anesthesia of the hand is achieved by combining these blocks with blocks of the SUPERFICIAL RADIAL NERVE ( • SUPERFICIAL RADIAL NER... ) and LATERAL ANTEBRACHIAL CUTANEOUS nerve ( • LATERAL ANTEBRACHIAL C... ).
