This is a general carburetor removal for a motorcycle. This particular motorcycle is a 2002 Suzuki GZ250 (Marauder 250). The screwdriver used is a JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) driver which looks like a Phillips driver, but is not. The JIS can be used on both JIS and Phillips fasteners, but if a Phillips driver is used on a JIS screw, it is very possible that the screw head will be stripped.

Dude! Nice job! You've got my bike, my fitbit and the same wrist, you're me! I enjoyed your Video very much, thank you for the instructions.

Ha, that's funny and it explains all of the mischief that I don't remember getting into! I'm very happy the video helped, happy riding!

This helped me greatly, as I have that same MC! (Original owner, carb never cleaned before.) The owner of every Japanese car or MC with what looks like Phillips head screws needs the JIS screwdriver. A set is not expensive. I bought a set of 4 on Amazon for less than $20.

I'm very happy it helped and I think I bought the same set of JIS screwdrivers off Amazon a few years ago! It took me a while to figure out why I kept damaging motorcycle screws, but now with my Japanese Industrial Standard screwdrivers, it has kept the screw heads safe!

Good video. How did you know what size screwdriver you needed? Was it just trial and error until you found the right size?

What if your bike has 4 carbs? Just take them all off the same way? Keep track of which one goes where?

The choke cable doesn't come free when I loosen it. Its on a spring but no matter how much I loosen it, it won't come out. What am I doing wrong?

Hello, sorry to hear that! I am not entirely certain what would cause that, but it is possible that the plunger "finger" or the sleeve the finger is in may have some sludge or scale on it preventing it from sliding out of the carburetor once the 10mm collar is completely loosened. If you feel up to it, you can leave the choke cable to the end and remove the carburetor from the bike and then work on the choke. It may help to spray or drip in some penetrating oil and then slowly and gently twist and work the end of the choke cable to help free it up for removal, or try gently actuating the choke lever on the handlebar to try and coax it out.

Do all carburetors for the gz250 come with a butterfly valve for the throttle cable? I ordered one online and it says it fits my 2008 Suzuki gz250 but it doesn’t have a butterfly valve or anywhere to put the throttle cables

Hello, I really think it should have the butterfly and associated components as it seems unreasonable for a vendor to have you reuse the existing parts. It is unlikely, but possible that they sold you just the main body of the carb, but I can't imagine anyone would want that. Perhaps give them a call to see what they say as it sounds odd. Best of luck on this!

Hi, thanks for watching! This will be directly applicable to all Suzuki GZ250 Marauder bikes from 1999 - 2012, but the general principles will apply to some other carbs.

My vacuum hose on my 2011 SR400 is on realllyyy tight… I’m worried if I pull really hard that it could tear the hose… What to do?

Hi, there a few ways to approach this. Sometimes rubber hoses can bake onto their fittings so we would need to unstick the hose. The first and best option is to use a rubber tipped spark plug boot removal tool to twist the rubber hose to prevent it from being damaged while twisting. The next choice would be to use a good quality mini pick tool to work the tip of the little pick around the hose, hopefully unsticking it from its fitting. The third choice would be to use pliers or channel locks to grip the hose and twist, but this may cause some damage to the hose. The final choice is to confirm that you have enough slack in the vacuum line to sacrifice 3/4" off the end of it and cut the hose off at the end of the fitting with a utility knife, then slit the hose stuck to the fitting and peel it off with a little flathead screwdriver. I hope this helps and I wish you the best of luck!

@@andrew_ball great thank you. Cut it off, there’s plenty of hose leftover.

My brother took apart my 250 not knowing what he’s doing and lost a part and a tube on the right side on the carb next to we’re the throttle cable is trying to figure we’re that tube gose too and we’re it connects so I can order the right part as I can’t find it please if you can help that would be great

Hello Daniel, sorry to hear about that. I believe the tube you are after is the vacuum hose from the engine side of the butterfly on the carburetor shown at 4:12 of this video which runs to the back side of the fuel tank petcock. I have a video about the petcock on this bike in this playlist and the other end of the vacuum hose is shown at 0:20 in that video. I hope this helps!
