In this video, I'm putting my skills and determination to the test as I take on the ultimate 12-hour challenge: upgrading my brand new motorcycle lift table from cast steel wheels to heavy-duty caster swivel wheels! 🤘💥
(Yea, this description is written mostly by Chat GPT)
🔧 What's in Store:
It's pedal to the metal as I embark on a heart-pounding 12-hour race against the clock, complete with time-lapse footage to capture every thrilling moment.
Get ready for some high-octane wrenching, welding and more as I work tirelessly to meet the challenge.
Witness the live-action evolution of our trusty lift table, and you won't believe your eyes when you see the results!
Throughout the video, I'll sprinkle in invaluable pro tips and insights to help you with your own DIY projects, so keep those eyes peeled for those golden nuggets. (Chat GPT actually got this 100% correct, even though I did not tell it to include this, probably just pure luck but also a bit scary)
But here's the kicker - as the clock ticks down, the pressure mounts, and I'll face the nail-biting realization that I might have bitten off more than I can chew. Can I really pull this off in just 12 hours?
So, whether you're a die-hard DIY enthusiast or just a fan of jaw-dropping challenges, this video promises to rev up your excitement! 🚀
Don't forget to slam that like button if you're as stoked as I am about this upgrade challenge, and be sure to hit subscribe to my channel for more epic DIY projects, motorcycle tips, and nail-biting transformations! (OK, I never ask about this, but since Mr GPT wrote it I better include it this time).
Get ready, because we're about to roll into the most thrilling 12-hour challenge you've ever witnessed. It's going to be a wheelie awesome ride! 🏁😎

You should weld some brackets under the lift so that you could store the ramp when not in use.
@kihestad

That was a smart idea! 💡 I had thought about hanging it on the wall, but this might be a better idea 👍

I think you beat the challenge at 11hrs. I see the ramp extension as a convenience and not directly related to replacing the casters
@kihestad
@kihestad Год назад
Well, in my 12 hour estimate I had included time to extend the ramp 😔 I am however not really disappointed that I had to spend more time, I should have included time to tidy, clean the parts, prepare for painting (sanding, priming) and painting 🥴

Excellent follow up to your first Lift Table video Ki. I was fortunate to get an electric over hydraulic table that I use for my motorcycles so I am not shopping, but both videos were well worth my time for your critical thought and re-engineering. Subscribed and looking forward to more of your content. Cheers, Chris

Ahh, sounds like you have a real professional lift table. My 'dream' lift table would be the Handy 1200 Air Lift, but nobody sells it around here, and it will be very expensive to import just one 😔 Thanks for subbing 🙏👍😊

It's great when someones been there before you, thanks for the vid. I'm about to do the same mod on a similar lift but I'm going for fixed wheels at the front and swivel at the rear which is the reverse of how the lift comes.
@kihestad
@kihestad 2 месяца назад
That is probably smart. Because of the limited space I have in my garage having four swivel wheels has been very helpful to 'park' the table into its right parking spot. It is a bit challenging to move around though, that will be much easier with your setup .
@juststeve5542
@juststeve5542 Год назад
Seeing how easy that is to move, I'm very tempted to perform the same upgrade.... Although that will mean I have to put my bike into a position to move... The lack of forks might be an issue 🤣
@kihestad

Hehe, I guess the bike is currently on the lift table? Probably best to wait until the bike is movable 😝

good idea most lifts have stupid size wheels and if like most of use we are limited to workshop space being easy to move the table out of the way is great , dont know about putting the lift up against a wall as my lift always has a bike on it , either for work or storage
@kihestad
@kihestad Месяц назад
I have been using it for a while now with the new bigger wheels, and it works great! Most of the time I have a bike on it as well, and now I can easily move it around even with the bike on! 👍

It's so difficult to accurately estimate how long a task in the workshop will take. Forget minutes as a unit of measurement, all jobs are in chunks of hours. The main thing I try to remember is not to set an arbitrary time limit and actually enjoy each stage. If it takes longer but I'm happy with the results then so be it. Nice stand though. Where is all the mess, tools lying around? This is definitely a magical workshop 😂
@kihestad
@kihestad Год назад
Yes, I totally agree! This is a hobby and it should be enjoyable, if it takes longer than anticipated - well then it's more to enjoy 😁 It gets messy from time to time in my garage as well, but I like to keep it tidy. Probably a bit more tidy than the average workshop ☺️

I think that was excellent, and well worth 16 hours of your time. However, I think those right-angled corners might catch your ankles.. painful (I know!). Hope the flooring went well. I’ll look that one up. Thanks. Les in UK 🇬🇧
@kihestad

Thanks, It has not been a problem with the brackets sticking out from the bottom part of the table. The table top is a bit wider than the legs, and I never really go that close. I also normally make the wheels point forward or backward before locking them, so they don't stick outwards. The epoxy painted floor has just been the best investment I have ever done in my garage. It's just like a completely new garage. Going from untreated concrete to epoxy is like night and day 🤩🤩🤩

I am totally late here. Just wanted to add that using tie down straps on both sides of the motorcycle handle will make the bike more stable. Get a scissor jack for lifting under the engine when working on the rear wheel assembly. Mustie1 use one and it looks really handy
@kihestad
@kihestad Месяц назад
Thanks for the tips! 🙏 I have really never liked - or used - straps to tie down the bike on each side. I have never had that heavy bike either, probably what you need if the bike is big. A scissor jack is on my wish list, I have just been using my car jack until now, really cumbersome 😞

@@kihestad Use a wheel chock system similar to a condor front wheel chock. It is stable enough that I have been able to ride on my DL1000 Vstrom, park it and walk away. Leave it for weeks at a time. I currently have my NT650 on it with no straps as I rebuild and it is safe unless perhaps a earthquake big enough that I would be more worried about my house coming down first. This is my bike lift which I bought from the fellow in this video. He made the video to demonstrate it when it was for sale. I think I paid 200 USD at the time and gave him 50 $ extra to include the wheel chock - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hvNgtP0zzbk.html
@CraftwerksMC
@CraftwerksMC 8 дней назад
It is a bit narrow to ride on but you can easily walk it up the ramp and once the wheel chock locks it is not going anywhere.

I ended up making my own over engineered wheel chuck, made a separate video about it 😊 It works great, and barely cost anything as it was a DIY project where I did not have to buy much materials

I have the same lift in the USA, it comes from Harbor Freight. I like it but I don't move it around much because the wheels stink! This would be a nice upgrade. I wonder if instead of the brackets you made, (I'm not as skilled in metal fabrication) I could use a single piece of steel (one piece on each end) that went across the bottom of the lift left to right and stuck out both sides far enough to hold the wheels. Waste a bit of metal and doesn't look as cool but might be simpler to accomplish. thoughts? Great videos btw!!
@kihestad
@kihestad 6 месяцев назад
The metal needs to be quite thick if you plan to use a flat bar to avoid it being bendt upwards at the end where the wheels are. You could of course use a square tube to get it stiffer, but then it will be even taller. It is probably doable, but as you say a lot of material goes to waste 😏

Another question up to Norway: Is it right or only my feeling, the Time between your videos is gettin´longer and longer? And please, if you can do it, dont make that youtube shorts. You´re not that type of 7seconds tictoc Guy. i like your long videos where i can understand your thoughts, why you do this and not that.....Many of us had the same thoughts (in what project ever we are)
@kihestad
@kihestad 11 месяцев назад
Not really (regarding time between videos), it varies a lot how much spare time I have to do hobby projects and make videos of it. I have actually made more videos lately than in a long time - hurray 😁😁😁 I have decided to make one shorts video every week as a status update the weeks I don't publish a regular video. It does not affect my effort in my long content videos, it's just to avoid not posting anything for too long of a time. Hope it's ok 🥴

Great modification. When using a much heavier bike, would you need side extensions to stabilize it?
@kihestad
@kihestad 5 месяцев назад
My Cagiva adventure bike is more than 200kg, and quite tall. When it’s on the table at the highest position, the table is still quite stable. The table top and the legs could have been stiffer as they bend slightly when rocking the bike. The bottom frame and the new oversized wheels are very stable, it’s the most solid parts on the lift table.

Bonjour, J'ai la même table que vous , pouvez-vous me dire quelle section et épaisseur de tube rectangulaire vous avez monté ? D'avance merci Eric
@kihestad
@kihestad 13 дней назад
Hi, the brackets I made for the new wheels were cut from a 50 mm x 200mm steel pipe, material thickness 5 mm. I don't really think it needs to be that thick, it was just what I had.
@Eric-rd1qt
@Eric-rd1qt 12 дней назад
Merci pour toutes ces informations, quel est le diamètre des roues idéal afin de ne pas trop surélever la table ?
@kihestad
@kihestad 11 дней назад
I would not have had smaller wheels than what I used if you want to easily move the table around with a heavy motorcycle on it. You could make wider brackets , out from the sides of the table, and have them higher to avoid lifting the table

@kihestad

The garage floor tilts 1cm per meter downwards towards the garage door. If I don't put the brakes on it for sure runs by itself until it crashes into the garage door. Or if the garage door is open: it will speed up pretty fast down my driveway 😂
