Motorcycle Petrol Tank Cap Rattle Fix | Harley Davidson Gas Cap No Damage Fix

Here I solve one of the annoying noises on my Harley Davidson motorcycle which seems to be coming from the petrol tank cap which rattles as I ride. I find a solution which still enable the cap to function normally but stops the rattling noise/

Hi mate Ive cured mine by cutting pieces of rubber o rings and pushing them in the slots . No rattle, and no chance of silicone getting in to fuel system. worked for two years so far , keep it up bud.

That rattle noise was doing my head in so badly, it took the jam out of my doughnut every time I heard it. With this quick fix, it went away. Well done, sir!

Changed my mind. Just went out there and tool a small punch to the silver ring. Punched in in 4 locations around the inside and it stopped the rattle.. No fear of silicone in fuel. Thank you for the video.

Hi Alf It's one of those Harley things I went through 2 under warranty it's bloody annoying after those it rattled again I crimped it only because I had enough no worries now I traded it in lmao All the best from NZ

Just put some silicone in my fuel cap last night and let it cure overnight, worked so well, I was very impressed. Thanks heaps for the fix. No more rattle! Keep up the good work.

My 2018 FLFBS started yesterday rattling on the right while out on a ride and I thought WTF is that noise. Mine is a stage 2 as well and has only been a stage 2 for less than 2k miles. I had a large socket I had for the rear wheel nut for my 1290 Super Duke. Took some bubble wrap and had the socket with the open end facing up and the bubble wrap between the cap with cap top facing down and used a small punch and just went around it and tapped it down. No rattle and it still rotates. You have some great videos though.

Hi alf, I had the same problem on my 2019 sport glide.I took the bike back to my local dealer and they gave me a new one under warranty,no questions asked.But they didn"t want to know about the clock face fogging up tho

I fixed my gas cap rattle on my Sport Glide by going go a flush mount kit! Gas tank and caps look much better and NO rattle. so I am a happy Chappy

I was thinking about going with these, cause I love the look, but was worried about the glue holding on the left cap. How's it holding up?

@@billywebb9614 The two sided tape works well. the only thing that ticks me off.... Is i went with the HD genuine flush mount kit and for the outrageous cost, they are cheap quality vs. going with an aftermarket kit. But once on the bike they look great and the two sided tape holds amazingly well.

One thing that I have learned is to never have silicone anywhere around the fuel system. I have seen so much misery caused by silicone. Method I used get a socket that fits just inside the top shiny side of the fuel cap. Get a dead blow or large rubber hammer. Place a rag between cap and socket. Support the underside of the cap and wack the hole mess. It works and the silicone crap stays out of the fuel. Silicone will find its way in the fuel tank .

I would have thought a greased O ring in the gap would have cushioned the noise also allowing rotation of the ratchet cap. I may probably be wrong but just a thought.

I understand tha the gas cap let atmospheric air to enter to the tank but, doesnt let vapor go out of the tank... is correct my conclusion?? I think that due to your mouth test. your bike have a canister?
