Thanks 👍. Yep, this was the first Suzuki I’ve restored so it was especially interesting to learn how these are put together. The carbs are for sure nothing like I’ve dealt with before and it took some trial and error to figure out how to sync them and get the floats set right for sure. The bike didn’t have any on it when I picked it up so I put some from a 1996 1400 Intruder on it and those didn’t even have vacuum ports to sync them with…had to drill and tap a couple of holes in the throat wall so I could put the manometer on them, lol !
You have such skills! I have the intruder and marauder stored until spring and will give it another shot. The tool you made worked great on the virago... and it is running great. And I thought they were a little pitb but Suzuki is strange to me? @@StevesDIYs
@@TheMamonti1 yep, both the Intruder and it’s little cousin the Suzuki Savage 650 were both really interesting to resurrect and much different to the Viragos for sure. The draft type carb on the front cylinder of the Intruder turned out to be very sensitive to air flow. The guy I bought it from that let it sit in his yard for 2 decades said he could never get it to run and gave up. When I finally got it all back together and the carbs on, it indeed would not do much more than idle roughly and was impossible to adjust the carbs. Turns out, these are soooooo sensitive to how much air flow goes through the carbs (and how laminar the flow is) that the issue was that it didn’t have the oiled foam filters in the air boxes ! Once I made me some foam filters, oiled them up, and put them in the air boxes…the carbs sync’d right up, and suddenly it came to life ! Not sure if you saw the other video on the channel (I think it’s under the xv750 or xv1100 playlist), but I did a comparison of the different Viragos and these two Suzukis…the 1400 pulls like a mule, but doesn’t seem to like tight curves, lol.
Hello There Steve, I’m not sure if you ever tried to replace a head light with an LED style head light on any one of your motorcycles to reduce amp draw and perhaps better lighting at night ? Or perhaps you want to keep it original stock.
Hey man ! Other than the bobber, I’ve always left the original headlight on the bikes. I put two smaller HID light housings on the bobber, but it was mainly for the look. The stock ones seem to do fine for me, but I rarely ride at night anymore. I never have liked the look of the LED ones with the multiple bulbs as the kind of look like a bugs eyes to me lol.
