I currently ride a 2005 Yamaha Roadstar (an 800 lb cruiser), and since 1973 (yeah, I'm getting old, lol, but I still ride regularly) I've ridden on many different street bikes, and of course, many different types of street tires. All that ^^^ to say that 6 months ago, I replaced my Metzler 888's (totally worn out) with Michelin Commander 3's . I can sum up the difference in one word ... WOWZA !! Best motorcycle tires I've ever encountered. Like Ryan said, Michelin figured out how to give street bikers "the best of both worlds" re: long-lasting mileage, and grippiness. The Commander 3's give me so much confidence gripping the road when negotiating tight corners in the rain, and braking. These are solid AWESOME street tires. If you are thinking about a new set of tires, look no further than Commander 3's. You will not regret it. My Roadstar handles like a different (much better !) bike on these new Michelin's. They are worth every penny.

@@OnlyKaerius yeah I’ve had the road 5’s down to a bit below freezing ... -2 or -3 max. Obviously when it’s that cold I’m just riding, not hitting corners hard lol, but no issues at all with them. Even rode them through a really heavy storm around 2-4c and even in the cold their wet weather performance is fantastic. It was actually that storm that really sold me on them. I’d had a couple of bike with Dunlop road smarts and the wet and cold was always their Achilles. Actually even on my commuter scooter I hated the Dunlop scoot smarts in the wet

Last Aug. I replaced the Metzler 888's on my cruiser (Yamaha Roadstar) with Commander 3's ... which transformed the handling & ride on my bike. Best tire I've ever owned (been riding since the 70's). Very grippy rubber for cornering, great in the rain, min. road noise & a very comfortable ride on the highway. Look no further. Commander 3's ... buy a set, you won't be sorry. Worth every penny imho

I remember tyres in the ‘70s. New riders today have no idea how lucky they are. Hondas used to leave the factory with Bridgestones that appeared to be made of actual plastic, lasted forever, wore square, and seemed designed to be treacherous in the wet. By treacherous I mean that a friend of a friend of mine was killed by a part worn Bridgestone on his CB250G5 on a wet corner. Since I had the same bike, I took the same corner at the same speed to figure out just what killed him. Crazy, I know. Expecting the rear end to give way gave me an advantage. Even though after several attempts, I managed to navigate the corner quite a bit faster than the speed that killed other guy, I ordered Avon Roadrunners the next day. They made my G5 like a different bike. I’m delighted that Bridgestones have improved a great deal since.

Isn't the miles advertised by tire makers a huge load of crap ? I had Michelins on my Triumph Trophy & I don't think it saw 10 000 k.m.s The tire wore ridiculously odd & was down to the cord in no time at all .. This is not a road rocket either .
@WoZIMoo

In my experience, the Pilot 5s aren't as good as the older models and don't get the long life they used to. They get squirmy and wear poorly with age. I switched to the Battlax T31 two years ago and although they ride a little rougher and might not be as good in rain, they cost 30% less than the Michelins, they corner as well and have a longer life. I have over 10 000 aggressive kilometers (I wear my tires evenly almost to the edges) on my set of T31s and they have little to no wear.

The best bike for destroying tires I've found is the Suzuki DR650. If you can get a rear tire to last 5,000 miles on that bike you're doing well.

@@Oddman1980 mitas e07. They last a LONG time on the dr650. Downside to this is mediocre grip on wet trails and the both tires will go out a the same time.
