I decided to get my Motorhome brakes checked at Southport MOT garage. My brakes had been squealing. Better safe than sorry. Thanks to Chris Cross, MD at Southport MOT for letting me film him working!

Very interesting Bob, I have a similar small garage in the local village, been a regular for about 20 years, very open and honest, happy to let you have a look at stuff. Best thing I could find on a Sunday evening as there is nothing of interest on the telly!

Always maintained my own brakes back in the day - not nowadays though! Copaslip was a must when refitting....... and getting rid of all the dust. Discs wear quicker these days, since the days when brake linings were made of or included asbestos which absorbed heat better. Now they are either non-metallic or semi-metallic, but safer to work with. Seems you have a very decent guy to fall on as & when 👍.

Great stuff, nice fellow to allow you to film him. He did your brakes quicker than I did mine. Mind you I had to run all new brake lines as well :D

Great video bob. Very interesting. You wouldn't by chance know how much one wheel with tyre weighs? I've just bought a Ford Adamo and was going to buy a spare wheel but can't seem to find weights of one wheel and tyre. It was you and Jenny that gave me the impetus last year through your videos at the age of 69 to go for something I always dreamed of doing. So I thank you both.

Evening Bob I look after a fleet of 156 Peugeot boxers 2020 registrations and nearly everyone of them has squeaky breaks it seem to be the standard brembo pads that are fitted to them. I’m sure yours are probably the same even though it’s a Fiat as Peugeot and Citroen share all the Fiat parts. I changed the pads on my own van for a different brand and I’m now 10 thousand miles into the new pads with no squeaks at all, since changed serval sets of pads on the other vans and all reporting back happy, hope it helps if they continue to squeak 👍🏻

I was always told by a very good old school mechanic that a 'squeak' is just a high pitched vibration. Not sure if correct but I always put a good coating of copper slip on the rear of the brake pads. This usually keeps the issue at bay for a while!

Exactly that’s what the copper slip does it separates the two bits of metal hence no more squeaking

Clearing out my workshop and found my original tub of Coppergrease from when I rallied. It's over 30 years old, I wonder if it goes off?

The mechanic is excellent, not many use torque wrenches on the wheel nuts

You should change where you go. I always have mine re- torqued after any come off.

Love Southport! Being from Liverpool its one of my all time favourite places to go with my motorhome. Just recently stayed at the pop up site on Victoria park last week, It was beautiful!

When they are due a change ask for pagid discs and pads far better quality. I do find those brembo ones cheap and leave lots of brake dust.

I just had new discs and pads on my Ducato. It squeeled from 6 months old and was a right pain. I noticed the replacement were pagid so hopefully no more noise.

Did he not run a flat Edge on the Edge of the Disc and Spin the Disc to get rid of any of the Lip or Crud Build up?

There's no need to start grinding the disc when there's so little wear.

@@BobEarnshawMoHo dont have to grind Bob ,just a Flat Edge on the the edge of the Disc, Rotate it , removes the Crud Build up, Stops it Dropping down onto the Disc Face and/ or in the Pads Assembly

Hi, really love you 2 and Jenny's dry wit. I've had my MH with this garage for 4 weeks, based on your recommendation, waiting on my cam belt changing (plus the other bits that have to be done at the same time) but I'm guessing your endorsement means they're now mad busy plus the difficulty getting parts, hence the timescale? 😞 Not doubting their abilities just wish we could be out having fun like you!

Hi Bob. I have been searching your videos looking for one that shows what you drain and what you don’t drain before winter. I know you use yours all winter but. If I use mine when it’s freezing weather do I need to drain down before I travel? Obviously wind chill while driving will be even colder. Do you have any videos explaining this. Thanks M

Drain all the water if you're not going anywhere. If it's really cold (-2 or so) I wouldn't travel with water in the tanks. Just take a small container for coffee/flushing toilets.

Not a daft question, no, you need to drain the boiler as well, you need to try and get all the water out of the pipes. Open the yellow tap near the boiler to drain it.

Just need to find the one when you arrived at Southport and filled them up again 🤣 I love to see your videos I think next week will be the first site I go to that I haven’t seen you there first. We are heading down to Damage Barton in Devon from Dumfries. As it’s just a new Bailey I thought I’d stretch it’s legs to see if there are any issues with the Peugeot. Stopping at one you were at on the way down. Chapel lane.

Quick technical question Bob. Is your van 4250kg as I noticed the safe working weight on the hoist was 4000kg 🤔🤔🤔

No, it's MTPLM is 3850kg, though empty it is probably closer to 3250kg. We had it up-plated from 3500kg to 3850kg.

Last part of my research accident happened when cargo ship called Mexico was on way to South America crew all of them died memorial was erected in duck street cemetery and permanent exhibition used to on display of botanic gardens now it’s closed in church town memorial inside life boat house operated by south port of shore rescue trust there are one of many shipwrecks in Southport areas attractions there are Atkinson south port pier Southport marine lake model railway village iam so sorry to be little long stay safe blessed you are as guide tourists for all people around world not only British citizens good luck to you your dearest ones

You should expect to pay around £70 + VAT, but I would imagine every job is different and every garage is different.

Yes I had squealing brakes too, I’m collecting it tomorrow after it’s annual service and habitation check so fingers crossed everything is OK. It’s been a 6 week wait for parts to come from Dometic for the fridge. Desperate to get away on another trip, if I can find space in a camp site! 🤭

allways take my cars to the same place for service and mot, won,t pass if its not right does,nt like spiders though took a fiat that had been stood 5 yrs and you could hear the scream other end of the village but new tyres and a dirty look and it passed!
