DROID Turbo is the best... Thank you Motorola, this is a real flagship... cool looking, awesome battery, capacitive buttons, premium materials.... No Doubt, DROID is the way to go!!
@Caseylawton

Meh, cool looking if your a male geek maybe... Then again that would be me and I think its okay at best. Capacitive buttons? Sigh... What is this gingerbread?
@SergiioMan

Casey lawton The red one is actually cool (very sport), and yes, I hate on screen buttons, I like capacitive or physical keys like on 1+1 or the Galaxy Note.
@Caseylawton
@Caseylawton 10 лет назад
Speed, minimal bezels, and Google now access. (yes i know you can do it with the buttons on the turbo but you have to press and hold then swipe up) Plus why not? most apps that it's necessary the on screen buttons go away and you have a full screen experience on a phone with tiny bezels. Oh and buttons also can break
@Caseylawton
@Caseylawton 10 лет назад
Google now launcher gives you access on the home page. Not from anywhere. Speed? yes really. and you don't get stuck in anything lol you just tap the screen and it comes back. So like I said, smaller bezels yet still get full screen when it's important and speed yes on screen buttons are proven faster.

Casey lawton But you can't deny that battery life though on the Droid Turbo. In my opinion and recent studies have shown most people prefer battery life over anything else when looking for a phone to buy.

Michael great video as always. The Moto X 2014 also supports the turbo charger. I used it last night and went from 14% to 98% in an hour. I've seen it charge 10% in 5 minutes, it's crazy awesome! Can't wait to listen to this weeks podcast with you guys.

To be honest, from what I've seen in this video, I like the Moto X's screen better. Could be I am biased, I would rather have the X than the Turbo - raw specs doesn't mean anything anymore in this league. If only the battery was better...

I seriously like the back of the turbo. I dunno why many complained. It looks very grippy and tanky. More rugged. I hate my note 3 back cover. It gets slippery when theres grease from your hand and it feels disgusting touching it. I always have to wash my back cover or put on a rubber case

Nice review my upgrade on verizon is until next febuary and I am on an s4 and I think I may be getting the droid turbo ballistic nylon instead of the moto x cause I do like the better build quality on the droid where I don't really need to have a case on it. I will have to see what the next moto x phone will be like when it comes out later this year.

2K screens are battery drainers. That's why a battery that's 1600mAh larger, only lasts an hour longer. I played around with both, and went with the Moto. The on screen buttons were the main seller. Not a fan of buttons on the Turbo. If Motorola would've given them the Lollipop design, THEN they might have been okay. But the "upgrades" the Turbo has over the Moto X just aren't enough, in my opinion.

Why can't Moto figure out how to make a decent camera? Almost every other manufacturer has it down. Heck, even Huawei phones have better cameras. The problem seems to be software optimization, since they're using Sony sensors now, but what does it take for them to make it a priority?
@pp3k3jamail

mike white Last time I checked, most people use the camera they have with them all the time to take photos (i.e. their smartphone). Last time I checked, Camera quality has an entire section on pretty much every smartphone review. Last time I checked, manufacturers keep improving the cameras on their phones to compete (well, Moto tries anyway). Last time I checked, Nixon doesn't make a camera, but Nikon does.

Motorola has to make things difficult. I was set on the Nexus 6. Now we've got the turbo which is closer to the sweet spot size the 4.7 moto x had. Since Verizon is getting both I will have to wait for the comparison of the Nexus 6 and Turbo when the 6 comes out.

mike white LOL...Well battery and on paper specs aren't my thing. I love a fine crafted phone, one that you know the maker put a lot of thoughts in it. To give you on going support and best user experience possible. The speed difference on these two phones are milli seconds, one may have few more hours of juice over the other. But I am willing to sacrifice that over a better built quality and look of the X.

I must say I'm not too crazy about this comparison, and I'll explain why........ I think since the Nexus 6 is an oversized Moto X with none of Motorola's innovations, it would be more fitting to say this is what the Nexus 6 should've been. Also I strongly disagree with Michael that the Moto X is the better looking phone. In my opinion the materials used along with design implementation sets the Droid Turbo SIGNIFICANTLY ahead in the looks category. Also the software is virtually identical so the Turbo automatically crushes the Moto X just on specs and looks alone. A more suitable opponent for the Droid Turbo would be the Nexus 6. But while the gap is closer, the Motorola advancements along with better looks and specs, the Droid Turbo is a lot more phone for the same price. I'm not saying the Nexus is a bad phone, it just wasn't well thought out. It should have a smaller screen or a 1 handed feature baked into Android 5.0

D Haze Verizon and Motorola update the Droid/Moto line faster than any other phones outside of the Nexus (which doesn't really count). If you're worried about updates, this is definitely the way to go. Both have near stock Android so they don't require as much tweaking of 5.0 supposedly. I'm on my third Moto Droid phone and I have to say that my first two (original Droid, Droid Razr M) and got great timely updates and the only tweaks were welcome ones which improved user experience.

The turbo Charge technology is about the charger (not the phone), meaning the "turbo charger"(that comes with droid turbo or nexus 6) can be used with the moto x as well and will deliver the same performance with moto x as with the other two phones. You can also buy the charger separately from Motorola.

Great comparison. Just what I needed in my small window of time to return my Moto X. As others have said: The Moto X 2nd gen can also be charged with the turbo charger and a Nexus 6 comparison would be welcome also. In the end, Motorola wins, especially on Verizon, with 3 solid choices. The most balanced of the three is probably the X. The 6 is for more screen real estate and the Turbo is for more power.
@SequenceofSound
@SequenceofSound 10 лет назад
Also, I'm pretty sure you can download the google experience launcher onto the turbo (what you refer to as the nexus launcher). On a side note, I always wondered why Verizon uses different icons for apps such as the calendar. That's slightly annoying.

Turbo for me. If you look at pricing, the Turbo offers 32gb for $199, which the X offers 16gb in. A considerable bump to $299 ($250, idk) would get you 64gb. Even the Oneplus One can't beat that, even though the One is unlocked and running Cyanogenmod.

I'm definitely nitpicking here because the Turbo is awesome in every conceivable way and I have it now. But, honestly, there's no practical difference between HD and QuadHD on a 5.2 inch screen so the Turbo should have been set down to HD and just obliterated in terms of battery life. Imagine the 3900mAH battery with the Moto X screen. Now THAT would be record setting battery life.

And yet with my HTC 8x upgraded via Microsoft App Studio sign up (free) and downloading the Developer Preview App, installing Windows Phone 8.1, I averaged 2 days and 7 hours from basic usage even with Cortana my first try. This from a phone that only has a 1800mAh battery, so Google has some work to do optimizing the OS. KitKat was supposed to be the "OS that works just as good on phones with only 512mb RAM as it does on 1GB and larger". Yet Microsoft instead of staying with 512MB RAM phones using Windows Mobile 7.0 they upgraded hardware specs and now with 8.1 on my HTC 8x better battery life (I still get NO SIM CARD issues which HTC says was a bad SIM TRAY design flaw you have to call them and get a SIM TRAY 2.0 sent out for FREE). I am definitely charging it much less then I was after the last "OFFICIAL" update which took 2 months longer to get compared to other Carriers.

Difficult decision.. I think the moto x is one of the best looking phones.. but the Turbo has all the specs and space I wish for.. sans SD slot and IR blaster.. But I can live without those, for 64gb.. the battery is also a great selling point.. so is the screen... However, the capacitive buttons.. don't look so nice to me.. even though all of my past droids had them or currently do have them. I'd like the turbos specs.. inside of an X.. the ability to custom tailor your phone.. I love that idea.. but it won't apply to the Droid. Shame.. I think it would look lovely in white.. with blue trim.. and a smokey back.. or even the Kevlar back.. which my current droid razr HD dons.. Great review.. I'm still not sure which one to get...

I've never been a fan of Verizon's need for these carrier exclusives and the "Droid" brand has seemed especially long in the tooth. It's been right up there with "Galaxy" as the most over exhausted brand in Androids short history! But if VZW is going to insist on clinging to the outdated concept of "carrier exclusive flagships", then the Droid Turbo is about as good as it gets. I'm not with Verizon, but if I were I'd probably be very likely to pick one of these up. Battery life in my opinion is one of the best ways a manufacturer can differentiate themselves at the moment, and while everything about the Turbo is "top of the line", the 3900mah battery is what it has over the competition!
@adamfedele1576
@adamfedele1576 10 лет назад
all phone companies have exclusives, not just Verizon.
@JosephTongret
@JosephTongret 10 лет назад
Adam Fedele This is true, but the other carriers typically do exclusives in the low end or midrange tier most frequently. Because of their larger subscriber base Verizon likes to leverage manufacturers into creating flagship level exclusives outside of the OEM's current offerings. We're at a point now where each company is releasing a yearly flagship phone that's usually sold across all carriers world wide. Verizon not only wants these additional exclusive flagships, but they often demand changes to many flagship devices sold for their network. I understand that Verizon's business model is very focused on branding things, but it just seems that we're finally past the point of having so many models and SKU's. The days of twelve different Galaxy S2's were a mess, and I like the idea of being able to get the flagship I want on the carrier of my choice. There are plenty enough great options out there today that I wouldn't choose a carrier based on an exclusive device, but it would be great if one day we were able to have any device on any carrier.

My new Turbo will be my third Droid phone and while I agree with you for the most part, I love this line. I had the original Droid for 2 years (i loved that phone to tears), then one of those crappy Galaxy phones for one year, then the Droid Razr M for 2 and now this Turbo. The Droid line has been the best for me and they've always reliably gotten updates the fastest through Moto and Verizon. I don't see any problem with building brand loyalty through continued consistent products but I do believe that OEMs need to stop being strong armed. Sony is the best example of how this has gone badly as their presence has dwindled down to nothing and now they release a sub-par phone on Verizon, whereas their Z3 Compact is one of best designs on the market and yet has not been picked up by any US carrier with a contract deal. Something needs to change so that people can get the phones they really want at reasonable prices.

I will choose the droid turbo Because it has a qhd screen and a big battery. Both phones is good but the droid offers more

There is no big difference between the swiftkey and Google keyboard they all the same, but I prefer Google keyboard for some reason you can use flow on Google keybord but it good that you can type by your voice

I think you better sit down to reevaluate the pictures. I think the Moto X photos you will find are more true to life and in focus.

Is there a way to turn off the "read notifications without unlocking feature?" If someone picks up my phone I don't want them seeing my texts or email without having to unlock the phone.

Turbo charging is the only appealing feature of the turbo. Wish it was offered on the galaxy s4.

Just a shame the turbo looks like a device from 3 years ago, otherwise it's an outstanding device.

I don't see the difference from a QHD screen than a 1080p one.. Can we stop at 1080p or QHD at 5-5.5 inches and just make the colors look better and more bright? I compared this in store and it just looks like my one m8 at 50% brightness. Looks greenish in my opinion
