Again, a rare review I’ve never seen. They have the 92 review uploaded but this is the 93 update when it received Northstar - thanks for uploading this one as well.

This is great. It's been years since I last seen this on television. So glad you've uploaded this on my car. These cars even 30 years later are still great looking and far better than anything new of today!

I've never seen this review. I have a 98 Eldorado ETC and indeed is a smooth and straight runner. Love the way it handles.

@Colt8722 yes it does. It's still on the original air shocks but it's about time for replacement

@@Chitwn81 I had the air ride system on my '97 Lincoln Mark VIII I got it swapped to a coil spring suspension And then this past October some jackass pulled out in front of me and totaled her. I had that car for 20 years! Had just under 130,000 miles on her. 😢

Had 2 of these POS a 1997 and was dumb enough to give them another chance in 2002. It's the reason why there are 2 Lexus and a Genesis in the garage/driveway!!!

@starxlr7863 10 месяцев назад
Hmm. I know someone that worked with Lexus and owned a Genesis that went back to an Eldorado. The other are definitely good for any newer luxury vehicles.

I purchased a 2000 eldorado for $2000 in 2018. Other than having to change my crankshaft position sensor and putting some stopleak in my radiator the car has been bulletproof.

Unfortunately the Northstar engine, that GM producedwasn't nearly as good as the MClaren prototype engine from 1988.
@SnepperStepTV

They're not as bad as everyone makes them out to be. Reddit really screwed up the perception of these cars, which is impressive for a bunch of lardbuckets who have never touched a car because that would require going into sunlight which would kill them instantly.

The styling of this Eldorado puts the entire "arts and science" paradigm to embarrassing and definitive shame.

The Northstar engine "sets a standard for other manufacturers to match." Uuuuummmm. No. Definitely don't match this engine if you're another manufacturer.
@starxlr7863
@starxlr7863 10 месяцев назад
This engine is indeed an excellent engine. It's sad that not everyone understands them. It's just like any other 32 valve V8.
@reslider
@reslider 10 месяцев назад
@@starxlr7863 until it inevitably blows a head gasket and destroys the engine? Requires extensive cost to replace head gasket if caught soon enough. Not “just like” other V8 engines
@starxlr7863
@starxlr7863 10 месяцев назад
@@reslider Correct it's just like any other 32 valve V8. When a head gasket begins to leak it will be a major job to do no matter what brand of engine. It stems with the cooling system. When it is properly maintained with the correct coolant and changed out when its time, the engine will continue to run flawlessly. The problem of overheating really started during the Dexcool years as its different and must not be mixed with other coolants; A big problem that a lot of people were doing even back then and still to this day. I can't tell you how many older Cadillac's with the other smaller V8's that I've come across and worked on that experienced a head gasket or overheating problem. I don't care what other people repeat from one another, the cooling system is so important to properly maintain. Not one of any of my Northstar V8 cars ever needed rebuilt, only basic maintenance.

@TeeroyHammermill
@TeeroyHammermill 10 месяцев назад
@@reslider : You're getting it confused with the HT series engines from 82-95. Northstar's didn't inevitably blow headgaskets. They blew headgaskets when they got overheated to the point of being damaged as any other aluminum block engine would. The HT engines were the real gasket leakers which is why they required 5-6 stopleak tablets to plug up leaks when they inevitably happened. If you change your coolant on schedule and maintain your cooling system, your Northstar will give hundreds of thousands miles of reliable service without blowing it's headgaskets. If your Northstar starts to overheat, it does not mean the headgasket is blown. It could be just a waterpump going bad or a thermostat sticking. If you keep driving it in an overheated condition, You will damage the headgaskets. Yes they are complex and cost more to maintain, but most all cars are costly to rapair these days.

It's a shame.. the specs were good, but GM's quality control with that engine was just stupid. I guess it took awhile for them to break. You can find almost any Cadillac with that motor cheap today, and yes they always say it needs a new motor. I remember test driving a new one back in the day. It was quick for the day, but still lacked something. Just as any luxury car it's going to cost more to maintain than the original purchase price.

They had their issues like any all-alloy DOHC (excepting Lexus'). But if you changed the coolant regularly (minimizing corrosion) and kept the cooling system up to snuff (avoiding over-heating), the head bolts held. "Life-time" Dexcool, starting in 97-99 made the problem much worse Post 2000 had longer head bolts (but old Dexcool remained a problem). Post 2004's (rwd) & 2005 's(fwd) thicker/coarse bolts finally fixed this problem. 300 hp & 295 ft-lb were world-beating figures in 93, The Northstar Cads simply smoked BMW, MB & Audi etc. for several years.

It is a very fine engine. It does have a few issues and some are not trivial but if these are dealt with properly there is no problem.

The 4.9 was a much better engine than the complete POS Northstar disaster
