My 2002 manual sport is a blast to drive. 225k miles on it and few problems. The engine hood is so heavy I cracked the top of the radiator when lowering it. Most new cars can't match the rear suspension. Crap cup holder if you're looking for an issue.
@@juancarloshalo123 Nice. Yeah I'm in love, I'm slowly restoring the one I have. Probably going to do an engine swap to the turbo'd one with VVT. It will double the HP to 300. :)
This aired on my 13th birthday on PBS! Some of these roads this G20 was filmed driving on remind me of some backroads I’ve driven on in my home base in Western WA.
Watching these old reviews of Infiniti's paints a picture of why the brand never achieved the dominance that Lexus did. Although all Lexus models back then were sold in Japan as Toyotas, in most cases they were developed as bonafide Lexus models, and then the Toyota badge was slapped on. On the other hand, Nissan took run-of-the-mill models like this Primera, and badged them as Infinitis, meaning they never had the level of refinement of luxury baked in to be class leading.
I have respect for someone who can do such a detailed review of such boring cars such as a Windstar and a Toyota solara. Those are even more boring than an Infiniti G20. That's awesome.
Had an 02, the engine was lovely, weak but very responsive and sounds energetic. The chassis felt nimble and was joy in the twisties. Not a fast car but very nice to drive.
I just picked up one of these 02 Midnight blue with 116k on it, I’m the third owner. Everything works besides the head unit, (blown fuse) but this is car is awesome it drives very nice and it’s so smooth and takes corners pretty well.
@@johnnymason2460 G20 was Euro Primera . Same like newer TSX was Euro Accord/Japan . G20 luxury ? Not quite. Maybe more refined than Altima but Accord V6 had no options less than G20 : sunroof/power/leather/heated seats . Maybe less sporty handling . 98-02 but 90-97 ACCORDs with double wishbone suspension had at least as good handling as G20 .I drove one and while it was pleasant the shifter was not great - maybe it was not the best sample - . Compared to my cars I have - 92 325i , 06 TSX , 02 530I all manuals - it was clearly behind. Probably more reliable than the ultimate driving machines but no comparison to handling which is normal for a FWD compared to a sport sedan RWD . But even TSX was so much better , yeah newer too
@@radu197666 The Infiniti G20 was more of a near-luxury car. It could be used as a family car but that's not the market it was in. The Acura Integra was more of a sporty car(not really a luxury car). The TSX fits the bill of a near-luxury car.
@@johnnymason2460 Was the Integra in about the same price range like G20 ? TSX was gonna come 5 years later and I assume it was a bit more than G20 - given the inflation -
Integra was a bit cheaper than G20 P11. I drove both and G20 was a much more substantial car with a much more modern feel. Wound up buying the G20. @@radu197666
What are you talking about?? Most people who test drove a G20 bought one. It was so solidly built and reliable. It was the most reliable car of 1999. Much better feel than a BMW 3 series.
Hussein adib back a few points about the car. According to the consumer reports, the engine sounded buzzy and not refined. Also, it was much more expensive than the sentra which it had a similar performance. That's why it was canceled, because it did not sell well.
@@ubiased23 The G20 was discontinued in 2002 to make way for the revolutionary 2003 G35 which saved the Infiniti brand. By that time the G20 and I35 were irrelevant to the Infiniti lineup and quickly axed in 2002 (G20) and 2004 (I35). The Nissan Primera continued on for another generation and continued to be sold in the rest of the world however.
