Better start driving something else. The Grand Cherokee seats may have been cushy, but they have zero support- not to mention that they were pieces of shit.
@Moke Ozinga That’s literally the funniest thing (in a dumb way) I’ve every heard. I better get something else?? Yeah…because my 20+ year old Jeep might prove to be unreliable….oh wait, they’re 20yrs old and still going. I think we’ll be fine. Maybe go comment on new Hyundai videos..?? lol after all, how many 20-25+yr old SUVs from other brands do you see still beating down the trail in a daily basis? I rest my case
@@petejackson3687 I have two WJ's of 2004 vintage. A Laredo.4.7V8 4WD, and an Overland 4.7V8 HO 4WD. I don't plan on owning anything else until the cows come home.
I have a 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo with the Quadra Trac AWD 4.0l. Looks like it did when it came out, nothing changed on it. Only owned it a little while and curious how the Quadra Trac does off-road. I'll find out soon enough
I had the 2001 and 2004 models. The ride quality and seats were so comfortable. I remember a few long rosd trips, I could lay the seats down and take a nap when I needed to plus a few extra back seat activities lol.
As much as this thing lost it’s rear departure angle it has proven itself an undeniable off-roader with a minor lift and good tires! The interior was far superior to the 98! Although the 5.9 was sorely missed! My daughter has an 01 4.0 Laredo with the upgraded interior (heated leather and sunroof, not quite a Limited). She is amazed at how well it goes through the snow! 200k and just recently it had its first trans rebuild! So much for crappy Chrysler transmissions!
@@seanm3ify whats wrong with a first driver having an older car? Seems stupid to put a new driver in an expensive car they're gonna abuse and likely crash...
@@seanm3ifymost people start out with an older car. If you’re lucky, you have a parent who will go through the extra trouble of finding you a good/cool older car for your first.
This thing was an overnight class killer. Literally took over the suburbs at an even greater pace than the ZJ. While the 99-01 had their issues, but 02-04 saw a ton of the electrical infrastructure updated and new valve bodies on the trans. The 4.7 H.O. is the one to get of this vintage as it did not suffer the head gasket issues thr standard engine did.
I have an 02 Overland with all the options and still drive it over 200 miles a day. Amazing trucks. Can literally do anything you need...if you got the gas money lol.
The 4.7 HO is a solid engine except if you overheat because it will drop a valve seat other than that the engine is very very solid more reliable than a hemi
I own a 4.7 Limited 99 WJ, originally from California but transported to Europe in 2003. I’ve had it now for more than 5 years and around 80.000 Miles. It ran 200K in total. The WJ has a 2” lift, it never let me down and is our favourite car for weekend activities. It’s super reliable and when something breaks down, repairments are almost never expensive. I really don’t know what to look for when the life of this WJ is over. The WJ is a unique combination of looks, reliability, comfort, low cost running, off road capabilities and especially: character.
That generation of Grand Cherokee was SO stylish, so timeless, that with more modern head/taillamp lenses + tighter panel fits, it honestly wouldn’t look dated being sold today! Almost unbelievable to think it’s a 25+ year old design! 😳
My parents have owned 2 of these Grand Cherokees. A 2000 Limited with Quadra Trac II, and currently my dad drives a 2004 Freedom Edition with Selec Trac and the high output 4.7 liter V8.
Chrysler's back-of-steering-wheel audio controls were underappreciated. It wasn't necessary - buttons on the front are just fine and still exist for cruise control - but it did make for less busyness on the steering wheel. Today's steering wheels... 😬 Cruise, audio, dashboard screen settings, phone controls, safety controls... Good grief.
@@DakotaJaegle Nope. The ZJ, particularly the 96-98 refresh, was superior to the WJ. Had both. The WJ, along with the Liberty, marked Chrysler's pivot to cost-cutting, as did the horrible merger with Daimler.
Glad to see you guys have a great memory and remember these WJa were developed under Chrysler Corp and not DaimlerChrysler. It was Robert Eaton I'd guess, but he was also there for the '96 ZJ facelift.
I owned 2 and seriously hate that I parted with either of them. The V8 stalled and the computer was $1400 at the shop I went to and at that point I was scared it would break again.
@@doncnunez6231 yep!!! There was some issues. Another is the rear taillight setup. The bulbs and the connectors was a bad design. Lol. Loved the Jeep but some models and years had their issues. My 2013 GC has been problem free. (Knock on wood) 👍🏼👍🏼
@Don C Nunez if you are still dealing with window regulators failing check the door ground wire they rip apart sometimes and cause some issues like that.
@@RandomPerson-cj2wi never had that issue but thanks for sharing your experience. I traded that in where I got more than what it was worth. It was great when no issues.
People who live in areas where they don't need or want 4WD, or the added cost, added maintenance, lower mileage, added weight, more things that can go wrong. People that want a higher driving vantage point because everyone else has an SUV. People who have to deal with flooding. People that want the cargo space. I could go on and on. I have owned 3, 2WD Jeeps. To each their own, but I've never needed a 4WD vehicle. All the roads I travel are paved, so why spend extra money on an option I would never use, but would cost even more to maintain?
@@DakotaJaegle Like all chrysler products of the time the inside falls apart, the electronics stop working, the transmissions blow up, the bodies rust out, and the suspensions are crashy and medicore. 4.7 is a good engine and the 4.0 is an excellent engine, but thats about all they have going for them.
Yet many are still on the road today along with their previous generations. What's funny is you provide zero examples of why you consider them "a piece of shit"...Let's see if you actually know enough about them to make that claim...Or are you just talking out of your ass? Speaking of budget hero nice C5.
