Even today, over 20 years later, these cars are still good looking and I see many on the road. Much of the technology is still not found on some lower level cars. Too bad that 2022 is its swan song.
I have a 2000 xls fully loaded. It had 325000 miles with no check engine lights of any kind. I love this car. I plan on driving this thing until the wheels fall off.
This, the ES, LS put Cadillac and the Germans to shame, showing luxury cars can last 300,000 kms or more, and be a reliable, stress free ownership experience. Especially since Mercedes Benz were nearly at the bottom of JD Power reliability survey at that time.
My Grandma had one of these in the 2000s, since that was when most of that side of the family started buying weird uncomfortable cars, usually too small for me, i would always demand i got to drive with Grandma when we all went out. She loves driving with comfy driving position so other than the same era Cadillac DeVille this is the perfect car for her. I still opt for the passenger seat on her Avalon over the Infiniti, Jetta, Corolla or rav4.
Aunt and uncle had a 1996 Avalon XLS immediately followed up with a brand-new 2000 Avalon XLS. I begged my parents to buy one forever. I recently acquired a 2004 Lexus LS430 and it takes me back to that era of Toyota and Lexus 😍.
I bought my son a 2002 XLS with Bench and column last year and he loves it.I’m going to buy my daughter a 2002 XLS with Buckets Monday. They seem to be bulletproof as long as maintenance is done as scheduled.I have a 2021 Mazda 6 and Avalon is so much quieter even though it’s 20 years older.
I have a 2008 Avalon Limited with 76,000 original miles and it is loaded with all the options. I much prefer it over my 2022 Avalon Limited for quality and overall comfort.
Whats the value of one of these today? Im looking at one this weekend. Its a 2000 XL with 52,000 original miles. It has the bench seat and is in mint condition. Asking 8,000 is that fair?
Kind of steep, did you buy it great cars i have one i got my 02 for 1,150 changed rear struts and put tint just need upholstery work other than that i love it i can and did fit my family of 6 in it no problems
Spectacularly engineered car. The boring but slightly awkward 1st gen is almost the same mechanically. This was repackaged with a really ungainly design. Aside from the slight uglification for 2011, every Avalon since has been pretty good looking. Sad to see such a once ubiquitous and successful nameplate die.
