I've been watching motorweek since I was 10. Now 18 years later it is still one of my favorite shows. It got me into cars and trucks at an early age.

The pricing information provided is inaccurate and not sure where motorweek got that info from but the upper trim levels are z71 and LT. The video shows there to be an LTZ and no z71 when quoting pricing which is incorrect.

This truck is enormous! It is every bit the size of a 1996 GM full sized pickup! The only interesting aspect is the upcoming diesel option, which will price it out of the range of most midsize pickup buyers. Glad the Tacoma is still affordable, and indestructable

bs. Put Tacoma to any sort of real work, and you start breaking stuff, driveshafts, rear ends. Good thing they have very good resale.
@Y10Q

***** They actually do. Light duty towing, 400miles and, what do you know, rear end starts clicking
@lucasalamo7888
@lucasalamo7888 9 лет назад
Y10Q You really don't know anything about the Tacoma. I had a Tacoma and used it for long trips hauling a trailer with 2 ATVs and a side by side and it never "clicked". Drove it almost every weekend to my local trail and four annual trips to Marble Falls, TX that were 760 miles round trip. If you really knew about the Tacoma, the only real issue is their crummy leaf springs and that problem could be solved taking it for a service bulletin under warranty or installing an air bag system to correct the problem.
@jx906
@jx906 9 лет назад
Not that indestructible whey your frame is 60% plus rotted away. You know about the class-action law suit, right? You know what it feels to be told by a Toyota dealer that your Tacoma is too dangerous to drive because it's about to split in two, and they won't even put it on a lift, RIGHT? Just the crummy leaf springs huh? You fan boys are thoroughly diluded.

My father owns an 05' Colorado, has 220k and counting. Overall the truck has been fine, the 5 cylinder has a lot of pickup, & can handle light hauling and towing. There was 1 recall concerning the engine that was repaired, and aside from brakes, rotors, & cleaning the O2 sensors, the truck has been trouble free. The only bad with the first gen Colorado's is the cheap interior. The new Colorado's in person look nice and should be a good purchase.

I don't get the point of the Canyon or Colorado... The new GMC Sierra is coming out with the 5.3 and they announced it gets the 8 speed transmission now. Before it was only the 6.2 that got those. Now that it has the new transmission, mpg figures are identical to the 4x4 v6, and they're 35k for both. Sierras have huge incentives and rebates and now they have their "Midnight" model or whatever they call it that's 35k with the 5.3, 8 speed, black wheels, black trim, bluetooth, etc. If GM wants people to buy the Canyon start reducing the price drastically, otherwise there goes the mid size segment again, dead in the water. No one is going to pay 42k for the diesel when they can get the new rebated Sierra for the same price and eat the gas mileage difference.

I think the truck makes almost no sense in the long wheel base version. The idea is to have a more nimble, maneuverable truck that tows/hauls enough for most users. If it's nearly as long as full size that defeats part of the rationale.
@Jeffo168
@Jeffo168 9 лет назад
Its about 8 inches narrower then a full size so even in the long wheelbase it feels a lot more nimble and squeezes into small parking spots a lot easier. GM is offering both so let people choose what they want.

Ford sells in Mexico the Ranger, but it only has 3 trims and two engines (none of them has an available 4x4). But it is in a slightly lower segment than the Colorado, the materials are low quality, and it does not have bluetooth. Not even an option of My Ford Touch. It has 2.5L I4 iVCT with 164HP and 167 Ib-ft with just the option of a manual transmission. It is enough, but it manages an average of 20mpg.

I saw it at the dealership and it's not that big. It doesn't even look premium or worth the price. With the incentage and discount that's offer on the full size Silverado, you'll be paying closely the same price but a better premium and roomier truck

@spazzman90 8 лет назад
+jamesdeanvegas You are right about the larger truck being about the same price similarly equipped. You are very wrong about the fuel economy. Full size will do 16 mostly city and 21 mostly highway. Canyon/Colorado will do 21 mostly city and 26 mostly highway. Not a big deal with gas at 2 bucks. When it goes back to 4+, these will be in higher demand. Overall I would say go with the bigger truck unless you drive a lot of miles or work in the city (like I do). Seeing lots of these on the job sites.
@jamesdeanvegas
@jamesdeanvegas 8 лет назад
+spazzman90 It might get a lil more but i just looked at my 15 silverafo. The gas usage for last 50 miles is 20mpg city and best was 26mpg. But i understand what your saying. What is the fuel mileage without the air dam and what is the approach angle without it?. Calling off fuel consumption while showing a truck with no air dam is not legitimate. At least call off in the video that fuel mileage will drop without the air dam in place. Has the truck been torture tested without the air dam, or are consumers going to be the guinea pigs? What build up of slush to ice may occur in untested parts without that air dam? Im sure GM didnt try it with and without during torture tests??? And what is with this fuel saving wonky transmission. I will take a Tacoma that responds well to sacrifice a cup of fuel. At 30-40 thousand dollars for a truck; I mean c'mon give me something that works right, the difference in fuel mileage just isnt worth it. Might as well buy a 4cyl to save fuel if you want gas pedal lag.
@unseencourage
@unseencourage 9 лет назад
Thomas Paul That's a good question you raise. I've been trying to figure out the air dam on or off answer as well. I wouldn't want to change it out every time I decide to do a little light off-roading. If there isn't that much difference in fuel savings, I would think it would be best to just keep the thing off.
@thomaspaul2465
@thomaspaul2465 9 лет назад
John Grebe The Colorado's manual states that leaving the air dam off for prolonged periods of time will affect air flow to the engine and therefore has to be put back on after off roading. This opens up a myriad of opportunities for GM to void your warranty. Be better if they made it powered so it retracts. This way they keep their café requirements and at the push of a button can raise it for off road use, much like their grill shutters. For now I am much happier with a Tacoma which also has a much better suspension for rough roads and proven tough with great resale.
@mattjack4x4
@mattjack4x4 9 лет назад
Thomas Paul The z71 is not really considered an "off-road" variation, If you want to look at an off-road Colorado to compare then look at the ZR2. It's MUCH bigger and badass than the Tacoma.

Have been trying to get a top of the line long bed 4th z71 on green metallic paint but, all TX dealers have a very limited and poor option models on stock. It sucks, because they want me to wait or order it myself and wait 90 days for delivery. I bet I could get a Tacoma, use it for a while and trade it in without losing a lot of money when the 2016 model comes in. Motor trend truck of the year my ass! If they can't have them on the floor for customers to buy. #chevrolet #chevy #2015_colorado

I'm having the same issue finding a crew cab Z71 in Minnesota. Luckily I found a dealer willing to do a trade with another dealership. It's not a sure thing, but it beats the 8-12 week wait time on an ordered truck. The sales person I dealt with expressed a bit of disgust with GMs shipments of the truck in general, especially the Z71.

Simple question, are the Domestic in name only? Many 'Domestic" cars are imported from Canada, Mexico, and even Asia. For example: The Chevy Camaro (American Muscle Car), is Actually built in Canada, making it an "Imported car". WMI / VDS / VIS:2G1 / FZ1EEX / Model: Camaro Make (Manufacturer): Chevrolet Model year: 2015 Manufactured in: Canada (North America)
@jx906
@jx906 9 лет назад
I would consider a company domestic if the majority of what it builds is built in the company's home country. GM is a domestic company, just like Ford and Chrysler, and Toyota, Honda, Nissan, etc are foreign, as in foreign to the United States, although most automotive companies build and sell vehicles globally.
@joelhunter1199
@joelhunter1199 9 лет назад
***** I see we have a "Winner" here. When the Majority of the Vehicles are Made in Canada, and Mexico, how are they "Domestic"? When you falsly claim GM (Ford, and Chrysler) are Domestics, you forget that 75% of GM, and Fords, are bult in Canada/Mexico, and Chrysler is Owned by Fiat. So on its face, your statement is false.
@jx906
@jx906 9 лет назад
Joel Hunter When you say "majority" and "75% of Fords and GM are built in Mexico/Canada" where do you get your facts? Have a look at the 2014 KOGOD Made In America Auto Index Table Key, then answer your own question. See the Ford F-150 right at the very top? And the next TWENTY-SEVEN cars? They are all domestic vehicles. There you go. Why do you ignore the fact that almost all auto companies are global? Why do you ignore the fact that if components are made in Mexico or Canada, and assembled in the US, it doesn't make it a domestic car? With your logic, Toyotas, Hondas and Nissans are actually more Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese and Taiwanese regardless of where they are built. We have an "ignorant narrow mind here". The fact that you decided to ask your question on an Auto Week video of the new GM Colorado and Canyon means that you're spooked by the firey pace that GM is blazing with new, desireable, attractive, capable and market share topping vehicles, and as the old fox did with the grapes it couldn't get to, you make a "sour grapes" comment. No false claims old chap. Just you, with egg on your face. Now go trade in that rusty framed Tacoma with the USA flag on the tailgate (always makes me laugh) for one of the fine trucks in the video. Trust me, you will sleep better at night, because you'll be satisfied and happy you bought a domestic, and that pesky question will no longer bother you.
@joelhunter1199
@joelhunter1199 9 лет назад
***** I'm getting my facts from Assembly plants in Canada, pumping out Fords, and GM cars. Also, if you really need to know, just look at the first digit, in the VIN.It will tell you what country the car/truck/motorcycle is made in. Just a little FYI, the Toyota Tundra is the vehicle with the highest US domestic content (86%). If the first digit is a 2 or a 3 the car was assembled in Canada (2), or Mexico (3). True sucks, don't it?
@jx906
@jx906 9 лет назад
Joel Hunter Your sources of information are opinionated viewpoint, as you still failed to provide hard evidence, and unveils you as a typical Toyota fan boy appearing at new GM RU-vid videos to falsely tout Kool-Aid about Toyota. You didn't even bother to look at the list I mentioned, which again, puts you behind the times clutching at old data about over-rated Toyotas. By the way, have you heard about the newest Toyota quality problems? Melting dashboards. Google it. Bet you'd say that's the fault of stupid and lazy US auto workers just to legitimize your argument, but you would be criticizing yourself. Go troll elsewhere, and don't make me laugh with your weak arguments.

Looks like all the Tacoma/Tundra fan boys are all bent, and for good reason. The Tacoma has always been a girl's truck, right along with the Tundra. No diesel whatsoever for the next two years, as put out at the North American Auto show by Mark Sweers the Toyota Chief engineering goon. Apparently, the excuse is emissions, and the cost of cleaning diesel exhaust, which made me laugh. If GM can do it, apparently Toyota can't or isn't willing to do it! A lame excuse in my opinion. A small diesel truck is what the next new thing is, and GM will continue being on fire selling one more desireable and powerful vehicle. Yeah, sure, the Tacoma is indestructible, especially if it is driven to the mall every day by a hairdresser; for anything else, the leaf springs have all been recalled due to breakage from rust through, infamous frame rails rusting out with many Tacomas breaking in two with a resulting CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT, rust locking brake calipers and eating completely through steering linkages, severe vibrations at highway speeds and below, and various other lemon law issues. We do know about the Tacoma, and it's a TuRD, just like Toyotas in general. Toyota can't even make proper floor mats! Blaming the problem on the customers is definitely not "selling what people want".
