My perspective is: I dont have the space to collect a entire brand new range of cartoon inspired figures, my nostalgia is with the vintage Origins line only. I also dont collect girls toys or deep cut figures. The cost of figures has increased over the years so i am more picky what i acquire, tracking exclusives is also more difficult now with fragmentation of suppliers and long wait times. Modulok is the only figure at the moment i am confident i will purchase.
I think 10 slots of Sun Man followed by never ending Snakes, the disastrous reveal of the Snake Lair, deep cuts like Demo Man and Geldor, the Cartoon Collection AND Turtles Of Grayskull is what is putting people off. They want to finish the vintage line. They should have focused on that and release the remaining what, 11 characters?! But it’s being stretched out and all the focus is going else where. It seems very fractured with an awful lot of toys when the end is so close for the Origins vintage toys. One that bothered me the most is Cartoon Collection Two Bad and 2 Bop-Steady but still no vintage Two Bad. It should focus on getting the OG toys out and leave Demo Man, Geldor and co as toys the collectors can get to later.
I feel like the hype for the lime peaked after Eternia. It's impossible to match the wow factor of that. So there's been a natural cooling off period, in addition to the vintage line nearing completion in Origins.
I'll pick up the old ones which may go for cheaps once this new one is released. I am tired of so many new variants from Mattel and you can't find most of them anyway outside of mattel creations. When you can find them locally online the prices are scalper levels. When you find them in USA, I have to put up with crappy packaging that results in items getting squashed when arrived, and arbitary pricing that can go above MSRP.
I'm definetly loosing interest. I just want from them to finish the origins line. I dont have space for that much figures. And my wallet is not so happy.
Same as you even though it is is fun to see some concept like the new cartoon line, the tmnt crossover and the rcharacter cently announced crossover with thunder cats, I am not a completionist I can t affor to and I don’t have enough shelves space or even enough place to store it all, it was fun when it all started again back in 2019 but now soon 6 years after the interest has faded a bit.
I think the issue is we've already gotten everything we've ever dreamed of. I have all my favorite versions of all my favorite characters. How many times do they expect me to buy my childhood back? They've got to create new content that brings in new fans to keep going.
The biggest mistake that Mattel did is to making the vintage Origins line MC exclusive, and then exclude the half of the world (or even more) by not shipping to them. But even if you live in a country that they do, you need to be extremely lucky to get one, because the quantities for this figures that everyone really want are very limited and are gone in few minutes, or pay triple or more to a scalper. That's just bad. Then... they are making some very obscure figures for the wider audience which no one asked for, really... there are some stupid figures from Turtles of Grayskull that are neither MOTU, neither TMNT. WTF! ...and what about all this "Snake Men" Oh my God does this will ever end! I have more Snake Men now that the actual vintage characters! They can only blame themselves that the collectors have lost their excitement for this figures, no one else.
Mattel, just finish the damn vintage line already! Dragging these last handful of figures out over the course of several years is supremely irritating. I can't even get excited about the Cartoon figures because I'm still thinking about the vintage figures you've yet to deliver. And how can you have a Cartoon Hordak with no arm cannon? He's the best of the bunch, and they still botched him.
Night Stalker not in a windowed box is why it wasn't snatched up. People are losing interest, because some exclusives, especially Walmart and sometimes Target are being Snatched up and scalped at ridiculous prices. When they make it so hard to get, like the Two Bad at sdcc , People will get pissed off and just say screw it. you can only screw over your core people so many times.
I'm SUPER excited for Masterverse figures. Skelcon looks amazing. I'll be picking up 4 of those. The Vintage Collection feels like the return of Classics, so I'm all-in on that. New Etenia Randor looks AMAZING. Can't wait for all of these.
Not interested in the Princess of Power hero figures, except seeing how they sculpt Bow. Will they change his look to be more in line with all the male figures? Or his own separate thing. I will on the other hand be getting all The Horde females, so Catra and her transformed look are a must.
Mattel is just flooding the market with the same characters over and OVER again! Anything with cheap tooling changes or niche markets. I lost any serious interest long ago.
I don't mind non-vintage toy stuff, but I'm so far behind I don't care about anything but vintage-style toy stuff. And when I preorder stuff it's in limbo forever. Walmart takes your money and months go by with nothing.
I'm planning on picking up a few more of the cartoon collection figures (I currently have the C.C. Teela). Definitely plan on getting that Frosta figure. I've been wanting a figure of her since I first got into collecting the Origins line back in 2023. That Evil Horde 2 pack is gonna be great for customisations. I managed to order a Demo-Man since I found him interesting and he was affordable. He has a few issues like his head not fitting on the neck joint properly and his shoulder armor being a separate piece that doesn't attach to the figure in anyway. Other than that I'm pretty happy with him and he was worth it for the extra Skeletor head that he came with. I think there's a few reasons why people are losing interest in the Origins figures. For starters, Mattel really went hard on the Snake Men and it got to a point where a lot of the hard core collectors just got sick of the Snake Men stuff. Plus Turtles of Grayskull hasn't been everyone's cup of tea and I think the same can be said of the Cartoon Collection line. Most of it comes down to people wanting what they remember having when they were children. That and I think the exclusive releases are putting some people off as well. Another thing I've noticed is that the figures seem to be getting more costly, though that's probably due to inflation.
I've got a lot of what I wanted so I'm just picking and choosing. Have no desire or care for "cartoon collection" I'm more into the OG style figures we had as kids. Cartoon She-Ra looks good, and I might need a Man E Faces since I missed him first time around. Another thing is Mattel Creation paying $6 for shipping sucks (typically per figure) If I could buy a bunch of stuff I want at once and pay one time shipping then it's worth it, but that's hardly ever the case. Ontop of all that times are rough here in the US so I've got less money to play with as well as collecting other stuff I want more.
Ideally I’d be sticking to Modulok then rounding out the OG line. Realistically I’m not gonna pass up on any cartoon PoP, Horde. I love translucent figures so I’ll get Skeletor. So, I’m not getting cartoon good guys or sub line like concept or Turtles. If Thundercats not mashups I’ll buy every one of them. This is why I have no money or space. 😅
I have to admit, between store exclusives, mattel creations, the secondary market, and the lack of a clear timeline for releasing the remaining remakes of the original line, i lost interest months ago. Ive only bought a few of the origins figures released since then, and quit buying masterverse completely. Also gave up on the mega construx line after they mismanaged the distribution on that as well as cancelling sets. I refused to buy the mega construx eternis tower, even when they put it on sale a few weeks ago. I may have bought many of these figure if each wave included at least 1 remake of an originsl figure, but they keep doing this "exclusive" crap, the latest being that the mod-u-loc remake will be an amazon exclusive. Mattel needs to take their heads out of their rear ends!
Not losing interest in MOTU, I pick and choose what I buy as we have the luxury of having multiple lines at retail and so much product which more people being aware of the brand buying figures.
I would've already pre-ordered the latest announced figures, but I gotta hold back ATM for some potentially heavy-hitting expenses these next few months
When the origins line started.....most collectors and fans from what I gathered......thought Mattel was creating the line in reference to the original vintage figures with improved joints. They started great but then started lagging on bringing out some popular figures and then introduced a considerable amount of snake men and cartoon characters without bringing some vintage characters in the original line. Apparently people are starting to wonder what's going on....money money money I guess is the goal unfortunately
I might buy some of the new stuff coming out, I'm not all into the cartoon collection unless it is a character I didn't have as a kid or I just really liked that version of that character, Clawful for example. I plan on getting Catra and Frosta along with Modulok but the others are a definite maybe.
Why can't they just finish the original Origins line? They basically started the Filmation line before they finished that one, which is what I'd like to complete.
I'm not a fan of cartoon look, so I'm not buying those. The only figure I will definetly pick will be Modulok. Still making my mind on those sort of prototype hordak and grizzlor guys , but I'm not really a fan of the design, so I'll probably skip them as I did with Demo Man.
I don’t know, I’m starting to see the figures more in Walfart and Target. But things are really hit and miss. There’s still like a dozen (at least) of Krang, but the turtles MossMan and Merman never popped up any where in Walfarts. Most Origins figs sell out instantly on creations, Demoman didn’t as quick. But the one the month before did, and before that…Could it be a quantities thing? The economy also really sucks right now. Gawd the price of just eggs alone! I have to be very picky about all purchases. I’m down to like 1 figure a month. The hit and miss thing might be the a big detractor for collectors as we’ve already gotten a huge core collection. I think introducing the PoP line, and ending the non stop Snakemen line will help. Thundercats crossover should be more popular than the Turtles IMO. I think Mattel’s marketing hasn’t been awesome also, missing countless opportunities. Especially when attracting the product back to kids? They’re doing a partnership with Playmates…why not arrange isle space next to each other? At Walfart turtles are way up front in the isle and MOTU’s floor plan is way in the back? Media? They got that. There’s official He-Man cartoons on RU-vid. Why not release those on Amazon or Netflix for the cartoon series. Put a tiny “watch on Netflix” logo sticker on the bubble? So many silly simple things they could do.
Ever since Mattel put motu origins figures to sell as an exclusive and website at matell creations. Collectors lose interest because they can't buy it now on retail. Mattel said they will complete the line but they LIED. How can international buyers buy this if it they don't sell it in retail? Exclusive, websites, online, 3rd party stores and the price is more steep. Hard to access figures you want. That's why they lose interest. Even 2nd version of man-e-faces, mossman, grizzlor, tung lashor, and other waves that was skip in international like asia. Very dissapointing. I wish they re-issue trap jaw origins, beastman. To collectors trying to catch up.
2024 destroyed my interest in this line. As soon as they announced the Cartoon Collection my interest was gone. I never liked the Filmation cartoon. I was a MOTU fan since the very beginning, 1 year before the crappy cartoon came along & ruined so much of it.
I stopped caring when the cartoon collection and the Turtles of Grayskull started pumping out. But Mattel is a company of idiots and they always do this with MOTU
The fact that Mattel releases roughly one measly origins figure every 6 months has me losing interest. I do not want the cartoon collection, never liked that cartoon. Also, not interested in concept origins figures.
All trash... and Modulok is the only REAL ORIGINS Figure we are getting 2025! That sucks Mattel! (Rio Blast and Geldor Mini Comic too.... a little disappointing)
