I was 7 when the news was spreading about this upcoming series call " Star Trek: The Next Generation ". My mother told me it was a remake of an older show about humans exploring space in the future and I was blown away. And when I first laid eyes on that ship in the intro I was jaw dropped and wide eyed. It had a huge impact on me growing up and defined my hopefulness for our future as a species. I love the new ship designs and ideas from around the D, but none will ever mean so much to me. I cried when Jordi opened those bay doors. What a treat that was to get to relive those wide eyed days of my youth. The Enterprise D is the true heart of the Star Trek universe to me and always will be.
Same. The 1701-D was my all-time favorite. Picard was my favorite captain by far. More than any other captain, he not only embodied what Star Trek was all about, he redefined what a Starfleet captain should be like. One of the things that I loved the most about TNG was its focus on diplomacy over combat, peace over conflict, exploration over exploitation. In that regard, TNG was the most spiritually evolved. TNG played a huge role in helping to develop the idealism that I possess today. Live long and prosper, Picard 🖖
The people creating current Star Trek do not have the expertise and imagination of the predecessors . Studios creating today’s Trek do not hire people with engineering and science backgrounds. Do not hire writers who are educated in classical literature and history. Their interests and emphasizes are elsewhere. That is why you are seeing a lack of creativity and understanding of the canon and science needed to tell a believable and entertaining story. You have it down right . I’m 53 and a long time Trek fan, and you had me waxing nostalgic for the “ way things used to be”. Good video. Subbed.
@@s70driver2005 thank you for your service, and I 100% agree, it feels so utilitarian, the Enterprise-D always felt like a cruise ship to me whereas the NX-01 was a working vehicle
Some of my favorite tidbits from the J was that the designer for its brief appearance said if it wasn't ridiculous, he failed. LOL. I love that it's so big that they don't use turbolifts, but site-to-site transporters instead.
The Enterprise 'TMP' version is one of the most beautiful fictional ships in Sci-Fi history. They managed to take an already interesting & fun design and improved on it in nearly every way possible. Even at a standstill, it gives the impression of sleek speed and manuverability. It's a gorgeous Sculpture of the Imagination the only downside is that the films in which it appeared were 'uneven' at best. Still, it and the original will always remain iconic and a cornerstone of what Star Trek represents.
Still love the E. It’s so sleek and sexy. And I love the colors; the warp nacelles have such large bussard collectors and large outer shell to show off the blue plasma glow, and the dark gray accents on the saucer.
The original Enterprise was the only one for 14 years, from 1966 to 1980. In that time, third parties (Franz Joseph, et al) stepped up to make the blueprints and the technical manual. The refit and the A model weren't that much different, so it wasn't really until 1987 that a whole new Enterprise was introduced. The C model was a one off, but most new ships named Enterprise were introduced around 7-8 years apart. These newer ones are coming at a faster pace, now that CGI has replaced studio models. Couple this with a decline in ability to monetize such works (the decline of print media, mainly), and it's small wonder nobody's taking the time to publish details.
The Enterprise G is just ridiculous. Also the Enterprise E refit was much more significant. It has massive improvements to its phaser systems, including additional phaser banks in vulnerable areas of the ship. It has a new deflector shield system, and ablative hull armour. It also has more torpedo launchers. Also you missed the USS Venture, which was a Galaxy class refit. It had an improved warp core, and weapon systems. It also has altered warp nacelles due to the new phaser strips placed on top of them, as well as additional power reactors in the nacelles. Trek canon is vast and complex, but you do great with it!
"refit" Not even Kongo or Midway had that much done to them (relatively speaking). I appreciate that in the ST universe, the idea of modular warships and the modules to go in them was actually a success, but some of these "refits" beggar belief.
What's wrong with the G? The enterprise doesn't need to always be this big crazy ship, as this video clearly shows the Enterprise started out life as the smaller cruisers with the NX and constitution lines.
The Odessey Class Ent F is so awesome. It could carry large number of support craft in two shuttle bays and had a small corvette that could detache from its hull for long periods of time. It more or less combines a fleet carrier, mobile exploration outpost, and a starbase into one asset.
The Enterprise 1701, no bloody A, B or C, had a crew compliment of 430 stated by Kirk in two episodes of the original series and every technical book since. I have no idea where you got 203 as her crew compliment.
To be fair that constitution has had a wild ride of inconsistencies, from the infamous rocket boot scene that gave it more decks than a galaxy class, to the usual scaling issues that plague most early starfleet ships when you try to perceive them in reality with their given parameters
I grew up with reruns of the original series and seen all the movies as they came out. But the Next Generation was the series I grew up with. It was all new, fresh, series that offered such an expansive look at the ST universe. Safe to say the NG, and NCC - 1701-D and her crew made me the trekkie I am today!
I follow a few channels that cover Star Trek ships and I've seen a few that cover all the Enterprises but this has been my favourite. So beautifully put together from start to finish and the cross-sections give a real sense of scale to things. I'm also glad you didn't acknowledge the JJVerse. I will give opinions on them all. XCV-330... Actually a nice bridge between feels real but also acknowledges the Vulcan ring design. Although in production terms the XCV was seen before the Vulcans. NX... Even though it has design elements of the Akira which is my favourite Starfleet design, I hated it. NX Refit... Awesome. It completes the ship. Turns if from a 3/10 to an 8/10. Constitution... Distinctive but the movie version is beautiful and iconic. Excelsior... Great ship, and really fits into both generations. In the Motion picture era she is a giant and the TNG era she is a minnow but still looks great. Ambassador... Firstly, thank you for saying that she has the design language of the constitution, so few feel like that. The Excelsior is modern and sleek while the Ambassador is an industrial-looking bruiser that in term of mass, totally eclipses the Excelsior. I love the design and would love to see the Lost Era on screen. Galaxy... Iconic, what else is there to say. Sovereign... Sleek, looked tough. Cool looking for the later movies. Odyssey... I never played online but she's a great-looking ship. Almost prefer her to the Sovereign but... she's too big. Neo-constitution... A nice design but I think she was created for the wrong reason. Picard's lacklustre ratings made them desperate for nostalgia by harking back to the actual Constitution, they did the same with resurrecting the Enterprise-D... it was desperation and in a way insulting to fans. Universe... Looks horrible, looks like a digital design that was stretched to make it look bigger. No love.
@markgowans Very true. However it couldn't re-combine afterwards by itself and would require work to be carried out in spacedock by a full maintenance team.
@@whisperedarcc6543that depends on what source you look at, it was originally meant to be able to do it just as a feature for planetary landings. Likewise it's believed that the Excelsior also possessed the ability to do so, the sovereign has done so in the books, the C might be able too. The JJ enterprise can as we saw in Beyond. The Odyssey might be able too if it's canon version shares the same capabilities as the non canon game variant. The G probably doesn't need to but may well possess the ability too. The universe class likely cannot, similarly the NX would have no logical reason to, atleast until it's added star drive refit.
Ent B first capt was John "Harriman", not 'Herman', and played by Alan Ruck (Cameron in "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"), and "wasn't installed until Tuesday" before Kirk came aboard! Lol 🤭😆

1701-A or Refit are until today the most timeless and beautiful ones. The later versions look a lot like 90s Computergames, except the first Excelsior imo.
I love the way you go deep into detail. My friend love you videos, and it compares spaceships how they would look like in real life if they were really designed in real-time in real life. It's true size in particular, house, an aircraft and aircraft Carrier today remarkable videos. My friend, I love it.

I can understand why it is upseting that we don't have much of any information on some of the newer ships. I mean the Enterprise-G just got introduced at the end of the last season of Picard and the Enterpise-J was first introduced in Star Trek: Enterprise and I think you might be able to see it in Star Trek Online. But as far as the details of the ship itself, I doubt there is much info out there. But I feel ya. Be nice if they made a movie or show about the Temperal Cold War. I'd hope they would at least give a proper explaination of the ship and it's systems if they actually made a movie or show about the Temperal Cold War.
Enterprise G should have been named the USS- Picard. That's how you honour him and that's how you keep the enterprise being a better ship everytime. The enterprise F is a far better ship the enterprise -G... To me it messes up Titan name, messes up Enterprise name and screws Picard as the series was Picard and making it the USS-Picard would have been far more powerful then what they did. It's a huge mistake in my opinion.
It won't matter now because as far as anyone is concerned Kurtzman Trek isn't canon and I have a feeling it will be rebooted once the Paramount merger is complete.
Respectfully, naval tradition is to usually name a ship after someone after they die. I can’t recall a ship named after someone still alive (but maybe it’s happened).
@@poohbear1647 That I can understand. But Picard save humanity how many times and he is effectively retirering at this point. "maybe?" I just think that with the show being called Picard, it has been a lot about him and even naming the ship enterprise, was because of him. I think if you were going to ever make the exception.... this should have been it... And talk about the end to that legacy.... and then if the next series is Legacy, it's his son and seven honoring it into the next generation... Was an easy lay up IMO.
@@zerrodefex Right, the Legacy of the Titan was erased? sorta... If it was not a lettered ship.... I can see changing it for the Enterprise or Picard like I wished.... Renaming it Enterprise is almost a slap in the face of the Enterprise as well. Enterprise was always a flag ship and now it's just another ship in the fleet. I'd be far more scared seeing the Enterprise F, E, D then the G... Unless with it's upgrades it's got something really cool in it....
Correct. The other issue with Cannon launch dates vs Non-Cannon launch dates should be excluded. Picard Season 3 basically removed the launch date of 2409 as it was retired in 2401.
NCC 1701 USS Enterprise under Kirk had a crew complement of 430. In "Piece of the Action" Kirk bragged that his ship had "....more than 400 guys up there."
Spock was the first Vulcan on Federation's Starfleet. T'Pol just on Earth's Starfleet(called just Starfleet) pre-Federation. I shouldn't have to make the distinction, but they retconned it and added an Enterprise that peculiarly was decomissioned in less than 15 years of service, and creating a Starfleet, while they could have kept UESPA or some TOS mentioned organization, or even something like Stellar Fllet, Star Force etc.
7:30 "The Enterprise A was virtually identical to the refit but was destroyed several months before it's launched.' Huh? There seems to be a confusion between the refit and the Enterprise A. Neither were destroyed "before their launch", the refit Enterprise was destroyed over the Genesis planet, the Enterprise A was never shown to be destroyed, its last appearance was at the end of The Undiscovered Country. Since there are no stories about the destruction of the Enterprise A we can assume that it survived to be in the Starfleet museum. And the refit and Enterprise A had identical warp engine designs. Other than cosmetic differences inside, they were identical in every way since the Enterprise A was also a refit Constitution class ship It was merely the renamed Yorktown, another refit Constitution class ship, as described in the novelization.
"Since there are no stories about the destruction of the Enterprise A we can assume that it survived to be in the Starfleet museum." It most likely is, as you can see in ST:Picard, there is a docked Consitution-A (besides some other known Classes) in Geordis Fleet Museum.
🖖😎👍Very cool and very nicely greatly well done and very well informatively explained and executed in every detail way shape and format provided on all the Starship's named Enterprise from the very first 3 ships to have the name to all of the later ones of the 1701-A-J designations of all of the later vessels named Enterprise for all of the years to come afterwards and into the future!...
So the Enterprise of Star Trek II-IV was a new version and the original is still at Starfleet Academy? Who retconned me? No. The 1701 was refit in STI TMP, Damaged in ST II TWOK, Destroyed in ST III TSFS, and the 1701-A was born at the end of ST IV TVH. This is from the 80s. Don't mess with my childhood man. 😉
Those last 2-3 minutes were painful. You touched on a major problem with popular entertainment in late-stage capitalism. These companies wring every last cent out of their programming and act like if a show doesn't get tens of millions of viewers weekly in perpetuity, they'll just cancel the show without tying up loose ends, assuming they don't cancel shows before they've even aired or barely aired. 20 years. It was 20 years ago the Star Trek: Enterprise aired 26-episode seasons. Half a year of programming to flesh out story lines, develop characters, and detail the ships they inhabited. Showrunners had the opportunity to really put love into their work and design. Now we have seasons half as long if not shorter with no time to do any of that. You will never see the detail we got in the Enterprise-D Technical Manual again. We got lucky Paramount took the gorgeous, fan-created Enterprise-F and made her canon after her stint as contest-winning design on Star Trek Online, but now the studio only gives showrunners enough time and resources to create debacles like the Curiosity-class copy/paste scene from Star Trek: Picard. I wish people would stop blaming the actors or the producers for the problems and pacing of shows like Picard and Discovery. It's the studio causing the issue, interfering with the creative process and doing what they can to strangle the baby with its birth cord denying needed resources to develop shows. Paramount has long-hated its own Star Trek franchise, but selling off Prodigy, cancelling Discovery and Lower Decks, nerfing Section 31 down to a televised movie were shocking even for them. I don't have high hopes Strange New Worlds and Starfleet Academy are going to survive long. SyFy and Fox Television did similar to a lot of their shows. Warehouse 13 is a famous example of sudden cancellation, showrunners slapped together the series finale episode what was essentially a clip show highlighting favorite parts of the series and the script was made up on the spot. The Expanse was another show that got cancelled out of nowhere. Fan outcry got it saved by Amazon because Bezos was a fan, just to later cancel it for good because "it cost too much to make per episode" only to announce days later Rings of Power which costs significantly more per episode to make. Produce original programming, or a rehash of an old story no one asked for? Studio execs are low filth, not a creative bone in their body. They saw RoP as a potential cash cow and it's... mid. People wanted The Expanse. There was a whole movement to save it, that's why Amazon bought it in the first place. And they just discarded it too for RoP. I do not see a bright future for Star Trek. Paramount is dead-set on killing the franchise. Don't listen to their words, watch their deeds. The execs hate Star Trek, they always have, and we don't have Lucille Ball to help save it again.
Completely agree, was one of the dumbest decisions made. The series had its ups and downs, and while bringing in the full crew and the "D" was want we all wanted (and ultimate fan service), the introduction of the "G" was definitely an "oh FFS" moment.
24:24 The Monfette Gambit is the mission that supposedly damaged the Enterprise F to the point it needed to be decomissioned, NOT the Enterprise G. Though the F seemed more than capable during the Borg takeover and assault on Spacedock. Production decision, they wanted to show it but be able to dismiss it in case they do end up making a new series with the Enterprise. Maybe they thought such a massive ship would be too expensive to try and recreate using practical sets. That's why we never saw them use the main shuttle bay on the Enterprise D during next gen. The D's main shuttle bay was MASSIVE. You could have probably put 4,000 or more people just in that hangar.
What about Probert's concept of the USS Enterprise C? (Also, why does everybody only use the USS Enterprise-A to represent the Refit when comparing all the ships? They were 2 different ships.)
As always, your vids are great. This has nothing to do with you, but I've always though the NX-class starships were made too large in canon. The NX-01 Enterprise should be WAY smaller than the Constitution class, but it appears to be nearly as large every time you seem them compared... at least in terms of the saucer. I think that was a mistake, but that's just me.
@@jamesabernethy7896 only justification that I can imagine is that as the technology got better and that which could be was miniaturized not as much of the internal volume was being taken up by things like life support and such.
I'll always love the TOS Enterprise because she was my first and she set the standard. I'm not saying that others are flashier or better in various ways, but the original will always be my favorite class of Enterprise.
Considering the specific title for this video, you cannot fault them for not including the shuttle. Or the Air Craft Carrier or any previous ships named Enterprise.
No mention of Enterprise D had large pool with dolphins? We were suppose get few episodes, but they were canceled, for what ever reasons. Jordi mentions dolphins on one TNG shows. Didn’t Enterprise D also hit warp 9.7-9.8 but as extreme risk or Damage. Didn’t hit that speed when Q was chasing them in pilot episode??? Star drive section only I think?
I want to go even further on designs. I am currently going with a design of my own, modeling it in Minecraft. Where it will be placed is up for debate, but this vid gives me some idea on innovations, especially with vertical warp engines and other innovations.
Canonically, Kirk's five year mission ended in 2270 per Voyager episode "Q2" and therefore the Motion Picture couldn't take place before 2272. Also, the ship wasn't damaged by the Genesis device.
Humanity, as a species, isn't ready for intersellar travel. Humanity destroys everything its touches. Thats why shows like this are popular, it allows you to wonder, "what if?"
I was smack dab into science fiction after seeing 2001: A Space Odyssey at age eight. Later that year I got to take my first visit to Disneyland. This was the year that Disney had a true masterpiece of a peek into the next century. Late that year, I went over to my neighbor's house who had a little more control over who got to watch what. He showed my Star Trek, then spooling the last of the originals. I could never catch my breath! Americans landed on the moon! After a fashion, we were watching, all of us were watching, all over the world...finally taking a close look at people over the millennia have stared up at, wondering...what's up there. I got copies of early drafts, sketches of this and that in designs of the inside of this ship. I still get tinglies at how many Americans just assumed that somehow these TV People had connections to actual manufacturers were planning to introduce, or the equipment that did so much would be available at your local Zody's or Montgomery Wards. They got a few calls from property management companies that were eager to install automatic doors that moved as fast as the one on the Enterprise... And I got a copy of the original Bible used for writers that were acclaimed writers but did not know The Rules. First: you can't just make it up. If it's a doohickey, you have to be able to explain it, express why your character is using it in some fashion, and so on. This doco does a marvelous job stitching all of this together. I love to pieces anyone that has their beans together that can walk the tight rope over fellow Star Trek Freeks who we love to find the flaw...a writer messed up. I thought we were wound tight in the 1970s, squawking on someone's theories, or facts that they feel they have that are True. We could and did make quick work of fakers and wannabes. Geek and Nerd was never going to be fashionable. Huh, huh, weeeee, that Is A Funny, right thar. Back to lovin' on you: I have no idea the specs, nor how the armement has grown or shrunk, the types of personnel--and correct me if I am wrong--the Enterprise lived as a vessel in one form or another from the mid/late 20th century until...what have you got the chronology strung out to again--the 28th century? That is my final compliment. You've done a marvelous job knitting all of this craziness together flawlessly. My head whirls at the amount of research and begging, stealing and then begging some more for the images, animation, cut-outs--which I still am not seeing "Toilet-->" signs or any bidets, no nothing. I come from hardy Scandinavian stock, and I know for a fact that anyone from the north countries either do not pass gas at all or pass it without odor. It is who we are. [he bows slightly and continues] So, what actually happens with Our People is something like a turkey pop-up timer thing in our navels. When that thing goes off, Sven or Girdie just explode. No, no, of course no one knows about this! We are also a Proud and kinda slow sort of folks. Thanks again, man! It was a wonderful film! 🌻
Worf being made Captain shocked me. His actions on DS9 when he blew a critical mission to save Jadzia got him a reprimand that should have permanently removed him from consideration of ship command. IRL I am a retired USAF flag officer and I took Worf's reprimand to heart. We do the same thing and receiving a LOR (Letter of Reprimand) is essentially a death sentence for an officer's career. In my 32 years of service I have had to write only two LOR's. One was heartbreaking, but necessary and the other was WELL deserved.
@@itsjustme8947same here. I was really shocked that he made captain. He transported over to a Klingon ship without permission and killed Duras. It shouldn’t matter if it was done within Klingon tradition. He was a starfleet officer. I believe Picard did say there will be a letter in his file. He resigned his commission to fight alongside Gowron during the Klingon civil war after the captain said it was time to return to his duties. He stabbed his brother with a knife during some suicide ritual. He screwed the mission with Dax.
@@Torontodude20000 A perfect example of a wildcard officer. Admittedly, he was effective, but also too unpredictable. Were I his CO, he would have stopped at full Commander, honorably. ;-)
Just one question, what will happen when you arrive on Enterprise NCC-1701-Z? Will it have two letters to represent the Enterprise like NCC-1701-AA or will it simply have more numbers with for example NCC-341701 and then starting again like NCC-341701 until NCC-341701-Z?
For aesthetic reasons as well as it's formidable abilities in the prime timeline films ST: First Contact, ST: Insurrection, and ST: Nemesis; my favorite Enterprise is the Sovereign-class NCC-1701-E. To use automotive metaphors, the original Constitution-class NCC-1701 is a beloved and iconic 1957 Chevy Bel Air. It's design language broke new ground for space ship design that carries on this day. The refit model for ST: The Motion Picture and the nearly identical NCC-17O1-A are akin to a Chevy Impala Aero Coupe. Skipping ahead to the Galaxy-class NCC-1701-D, it is a large, luxurious, family-friendly, but still immensely powerful Cadillac Escalade-V. Ahhhh, but the NCC-1701-E is a slimmed down, kick behind and take names McLaren Speedtail that is drop dead gorgeous.
The B and E are the most logical designs. A thin neck doesn't really allow for the in-story space required. I like the D, but the E has the toughest, sleekest look. It's my favorite as far as looks.
Some make fun of D because it had families on board, but have you truly thought about what that meant for civilization? For the first time, a whole community traveled the stars. They were city ships, a huge step forward in the advancement of the human species. Before D, they were strictly military/science vessels on a mission. Family sometimes followed in rare occasions more like Sisko's family. But D introduced a 100% space faring race, born in space, acclamated to the riggers of space travel from birth. Think of us today. Sure our tech doesn't allow for the seamless transition to the stars like in Trek, but even with that under consideration, traveling in space takes some getting use to. You never see a sky or any natural growth unless you fake it on a holodeck, and holodecks weren't that common at D's launch. Some wrestle with the idea that on the other side of that wall is death. However, those born in space, wouldn't even perceive any kind of problem. It would be all they new. A true traveling city or nation is way beyond anything ever considered before D. Now Trek never explored this idea fully, chosing to jump up the threat level with the Borg and other crazies. Later Discover and Picard, just got stupid and dropped the original feeling of hope and adventure for sad brooding melodrama. We lost the most progressive aspect of the Next Gen, a totally brand new lifestyle for mankind.
To be honest... I think you missed something. The rain they stepped down on detail was because of the account of power and technology that has evolved. Less crew, more comfort and better resources makes for a better futuristic ship.
In my personal opinion, it was a huge mistake to put the USS ENTERPRISE G into service already, even though the Enterprise F was by no means destroyed, and then to have the USS ENTERPRISE G be a CONSTITUTION III-class or NEO CONSTITUTION-class ship. The ships with the name ENTERPRISE should always be of the ship class that is considered the top of the entire fleet. If the ship had been named the USS PICARD or USS PHOENIX, or if this crew had been given a ZHENG HE-class or ODYSSEY-class, I wouldn't have anything to criticize. But I'm also one of those people who would never have let the USS TITAN be a LUNA-class, because I don't think the name “TITAN” fits a small LUNA-class ship at all. I would have really liked to have seen Captain William T. Riker on a USS TITAN, which would have been a sister ship to the USS ENTERPRISE E.
