I had an extra LOP Origins Merman so I put the armor from that one on my Masterverse Merman and I'm really happy with how it looks. But I also went a step further and painted in the missing eye, it actually came out really good, I was very surprised, haha. Merman is one of my favorite MOTU characters, I'm hoping they do more versions of him in this line/scale. The only MOTUC figure I have is the blue one that came in the 2 pack with Aquaman, I'd love to have that original green one but he is a pricey one! Maybe I'll find him someday for a good deal
Omg i was actually planning a same thing but u want also swap heads with origins and masterverse and re paint armor with more of copper color so i can have more of 200X seires Merman
That's crazy what happened to your sword. I haven't had any paint flaking issues on any of my Masterverse figures, including Mer-Man's sword. I'm hoping my luck holds up, in that regard.
Ive had the paint flake on the Masterverse Tri-Klops sword and King Grayskull purple half of the Power Sword. All the Swords of Power seem to be fine though or that brown paint they use holds real nice.
Considering his upper body is a unique sculpt I can't help but think we will get another Merman down the line that has a regular head and his chest armor he had in the flashback scenes on the show. Hopefully they do release him like that with a proper trident.
I agree with what you're saying about how "barebones" Mer-Man is without the armor and interchangeable head with two eyes. I had similar issues with the wave 2 Beastman figure, but then they hit a grand slam homer with the New Eternia Beastman. Hopefully, we'll get a New Eternia Mer-Man sometime that will be equally as impressive.
I wonder if they used PLA plastic in those parts that are chipping? PLA is a little more flexible than regular plastic, but also strong and not as prone to breakage. Hasbro uses the stuff regularly in Transformers on parts that need to be a little more durable like hinges and joints. The downside that it has the nickname "unpaintable plastic", paint just wont adhere to it so it just chips or melts off. Hasbro wont apply paint to it, Mattel may be a little more careless.
I do really like this figure but I too wish this guy came with armor and a normal head, but then they'd justify charging $32 bucks. Hopefully a New Eternia version is in the works! I put the gold Mer Man armor from one of the weapons packs on him, I think he looks great with it.
You know what was kind of an unforeseen boon to getting this figure despite it being a bit basic (besides that Merman is one of the coolest looking minion) is that once they came out with a more complete Merman, this makes a good “army builder” figure, and can be posed with the fully armored Merman as one of his Aquatican minions (yes I know Aquaticans generally have slightly different facial features, but in a pinch he works). I’m gonna see about getting another one or two cheap if I can, maybe alter the faces a bit with a little painting just so Merman can have a team of aquatic warriors with him. I’m assuming this might also work, though I think not as well, with Beastman if you want to use the initial release as his nameless grunts. Just a thought I had while going through these Masterverse videos.
I kinda get where you're coming from with that. IMO neither are "bad" per se, in fact this Mer-Man is fairly decent, but they do feel like variants, and stripped down ones with that. Considering the greatness we've seen with New Eternia Beast Man, I'm holding out and hoping for a great NE Mer-Man instead!
How do you feel about the New Eternia Beast Man? It's pretty awesome. I picked one up first week of release. It pays homage to the vintage figure. Particularly the head sculpt alone.
@@ForEternia Think I've mentioned it elsewhere on the page, but I really like NE Beast Man. Love how it incorporates the armour design from very early sketches and various other elements - it's faithful to the old and puts a great new twist on it at the same time. The head sculpt is the only thing I'm not fully won over on, looks slightly too "puffy" and goofy to my eye, but I can live with it and in fairness don't have one in hand yet - a few of the releases seem to take their time to reach here in the UK. :)
I really enjoy this one...even though I prefer the classic, it's fun to have something new. Sexy battle damaged Mer-Man is what the world needs! 😍 But it sucks that you had those paint issues. Mine was fairly perfect...now I'm hoping it holds up...
Mixed feelings on this one. As a figure, not bad, but it does somehow feel stripped down to the point of a little basic. I know this is how we saw Mer-Man in Revelation, but even so I woulda liked maybe some (very battle damaged) armour thrown in as a display option at least; occasionally I feel they go overboard with the 'too many multiple hands' option when they coulda instead put the effort in on something else (same with the otherwise excellent Moss Man). With the Classics armour on alone this already looks an far, far better figure. I like the little emblem on the belt, a reference to the traditional armour, and the webbed fingers are nice (some of the gloved incarnations of Mer-Man do kinda hint at webbed fingers). The sword is fair though I prefer the traditional, but the 'trident' with only two prongs just feels somehow wrong. Not a figure I'm majorly eager to get, at most if I see it at decent discount I might get it for some mix-and-matching. Another case of "holding out and hoping for an excellent New Eternia version instead". :)
I agree the addition of another head and armor would have been great, esp if you wanted to army build his people. Sucks about your sword paint. Maybe a sealer could have helped? Hoping it’s just a random one-off, not a line wide issue. You’re well enough known to get sent a replacement, not so for most of us. Speaking of, I thought the 2002 version with the belt buckle becoming his sword was always neat. Did Mattel ever make that one? I don’t remember. Also, I’ve been looking for any Mer-Man for a while after coming across an unfinished Attuma custom that needs some armor. I only saw the LOP version once, and it didn’t occur to me then, and passed on the MOTUC version, never had the 80s version. I hope they release a “classic” MM in Masterverse so I can finish Attuma. 😂 (And seeing those designs floating around for Aztec Namor in Wakanda Forever has me worried about what MCU Attuma will look like! 😱)
Nope, they're not all the same. There's a couple of basic shared ones (He-Man's being the most obvious), but not all are identical. Although it makes sense that Mer-Man would be slightly slimmer and streamlined I am kinda with you on the 'flat' chest.
IMO it's the New Eternia stuff that's really bought Masterverse up to par. Although a couple of good Revelation figures (I love Faker, and Moss Man) the rest of it is stuff that personally isn't really appealing to me. But they NE stuff we're starting to see... oh boy. Very excited about the figure of that. :)
Woeful. Made one of the more bizarrely flamboyant MOTU characters bland. Like many of the Revelation designs, looks like a generic computer game build a figure model.
@@CoffinBanger Many of us can but whilst customising is fun, in some cases we shouldn't really have to. This does feel like such a stripped down 'simplified' figure, feels like it should be so much more, at least a few more items for various display options. As such it's not one I'm really eager to spend my cash on, which is a shame as I usually love Mer-Man.
He's really coming close to the worst looking figure in this line and that's saying something! He just screams after thought to me. Maybe if there were some washes, or paint details. Maybe if they'd bothered to sculpt the scars, instead of just drawing them on? I don't know if there's anything that could have saved him, or this line in general, for me. I hope they finish up with Mehvelations and use the Masterverse line for more impressive interpretations.
