The cape could use a jagged or scalloped edge to keep it from looking so plan. Also the teeth could use a paint wash or could have been drybrushed to provide some texture detail.
I really don’t like the head sculpts or expressions in this line. Evil-lyn looks the best to me but idk how I feel about her armor. I prefer the classic attire by far. Maybe I’ll hold off on this line & hope for changes to heads & armors.
@@Rocket1377 Yes exactly, plus they have already made Keldor and Kronis from 200x, so that tells me that can go any format they want. With next year being the 40th anniversary, and the 20th year for 200x, there will be some cool reveals soon probably at power-con in September.
You know I will say I actually don't mind the tall lankier look for Skeletor. With He-Man it just does not work at all, but I think it makes sense that Skeletor isn't as muscular as He-Man. He's not puny but he's not a body builder either.
Agreed. The face is funky. And there’s a weird conflict with the design of the face-hyper realistic details and shading-and the body and clothing-lack of detail and a significantly flat color-blocked deco. I wonder if people will be doing custom heads or if Mattel will be giving alternative heads later. It’s especially striking when you did the side-by-side with He-Man, whose head design matches the level of detail and realism of his body.
Flat hand theory: In the Filmation series, Skeletor would occasionally raise his hand in a "Talk to the hand" like gesture, and shoot a beam of magic from the center of his palm.
I think the reason the Shaping Staff is shorter than it used to be is that at the end of the episode where it was introduced, the staff was broken in half.
This is the one design/sculpt/deco out of these new figures I really like. I know it's sacrilege to some, but I've always preferred Skeletor with a bone colored face to the classic green.
Reguarding The “bone gray” 🆚 bright yellow color on Skelly’s face,I can already see the eBay “custom figure” sellers jump on this, aka, painting it yellow
The lanky proportions of both He-man and Skeletor is just too off-putting. You can see from the start of the vid that the odd proportions just look unnatural as he stands straiht up. I really don't get that impression from the show's trailer.
Thanks for the honest review. I was looking forward to this line and not pouring my money into the Origins line . But after seeing He-Man and now Skeletor I think I'll pass on this line. Or just pick and pull the figures that catch my eye. Because I think that Battle Cat looks good and I don't own a Scareglow.
I love 99% of this figure. My only major criticism is that I think the head feels like it should be just slightly bigger. Also the dinky transparent triangular cape is lousy. I replaced mine with a custom cloak. And I wish he came with a sword.
There is something about the head of Skeletor and He-Man that is not clicking to me! I think their are little bit small for the proportion of the body, and generally i don't like the overall design and painting! :(
I agree and he man’s head sculpt just seems feminine in design, hair and all. I was also disappointed that skeletor wasn’t the deeper blue seen in the announcement pics. Super7 filmation fig is still the best
And they have goofy faces instead of a intimidating warrior look. Probably a case of "think of the children" If its any consolation, The teela show will probably suck too.
I picked up the Skeletor figure recently and he is awesome 😎. The sculpt is fantastic, looks really accurate to the show and has good articulation. Skeletor includes good accessories my favourite being his havoc staff because man does it look awesome 😎 with the amazing attention to detail. The shaping staff was a nice accessory not really needed but still cool. I also personally love Skeletor with a cape I think it just adds to his overall menace and awesomeness, though I decided to switch the cape the opposite way as I felt it looked better with the darker purple facing outwards and the lighter purple inward. However I do have a few gripes with the figure. I hate the hip joints and how they are designed I moved his leg slightly outward and I cannot for the life of me get it straight again I’d rather they gave them regular ball jointed hips to allow for easy movement. He also holds his havoc staff really loosely in his hand so it doesn’t like to stay up properly and can make him fall over sometimes. But besides that he is amazing I’m probably going to get the Skelegod figure as well because it’s awesome 😎. Loved the design of Skelegod in the series and loved his awesome cosmic powers so props to the designers who made his god design. Overall I give the figure a solid 9 out of 10 and I’m really happy I bought him and I’m definitely keeping his awesome packaging love the artwork on it. Xx
The more I see review of this Masterverse, the more I am not being impressed by it. Sorry Mattel, your initial run of this collector line just fell short. I will still get a few of these of course because I want to support the brand. I wish the Revelation characters just be made into Classics line, with the capable hands of the Four Horseman and the backing of Mattel, heck even Super 7. But for now this is what we have. But I am happy for those who likes this Masterverse line.
I'm with you on that. If they just used the classics bucks and updated the designs so they could differentiate for the new show I would have been all up in this line
@woodcock991 Oh, there is no Classics collector crying over this Masterverse line, owning and acquiring Classics figures, even nowadays still brings joyous feelings with or without this masterverse line. Now for others that are planning to collect these, I can understand if they want to cry. I personally will get the core guys because I love MOTU and I'm supporting the new show and Mattel efforts, but I'm keeping my Classics and it will be top shelf, front and center.
There's no heroic proportions on these bodies. They're definitely muscular, but also look dumpy because the chest and lats area are not much larger than the abs/core area. Plus the faces are all weird to me. I don't hate these figures, but I think I'll be okay passing on them. Well, I still want Moss man because out of this first wave he looks like the coolest toy to me.
That face just looks too alien/Scream for me. Why didn't they make it yellow, and less smooth? It's like the opposite of the 200x line! (Gray skull in the animation, yellow skull for the action figure.) I feel like they made the legs taller just to distinguish them from Classics. Make them seem "Bigger = Better." Such missed opportunities for He-man and Skeletor. At least Moss Man and Evil-Lyn look great! Thank you for another great review, Dan! While the figure may be disappointing, your videos never are!
I think I finally figured out why the He-Man in this line seems off. Compared to Skeletor, He-Man's torso looks to be shorter, while his legs look longer. Skeletor's proportions look better.
He-man and Skeletor really look off model in both this figures, but I agree with your HYPOTHESIS. MATTEL probably started making this figures two or three years ago and used concept art for the design, during factory production the animation models changed and there was no time to adjust the toys.
I dig it, it's a new take on the series, kinda wish the face was a lil different, and the cape should've been like the classics style, but so far they're pretty damn close to being show accurate haven't actually held one or seen in rl, but curious to what they will come up with down the road a bit... I believe if the line does well enough we will see a new Eternia Playset, as well as wundar, king grayskull, and He-Ro
I doubt it. They can’t keep origins on the pegs and third party prices are high. They’re very popular. On the other hand, nobody wants this trash and they’re warning pegs everywhere. Makes me sick, personally
I'm assuming the 4HM aren't involved with this line, or if they are, it's minimally so. Besides these figures looking off-model from the animation, these figures just don't seem to be up to par with things like Classics from a detail/design standpoint. I get that they are meant to be in a different style, but I think if the 4HM were the main sculptors of this line, even if going for the same general style, the end result would be a lot better. Especially with He-Man and Skeletor.
I have the same feel when I watched the trailer of the new animation.....I was like "ok now the figueres looks like they were developed before the animation".......hopefully we will recieve eventually a new line with more acurate looks
I am more a TMNT fan but He-Man and Skeletor are so iconic characters that these are must buys. I only have the same two main characters from the Origins line as well. These Masterverse characters do look kind of weird but I can live with that
I'd have thought the ninja chop hand is meant to be a spell casting hand if you have the palm facing forward. I'm not sure why so many people are confused by this.
Skeletor looks pretty cool. It doesn't seem to be the "same" Skeletor from the Filmation series, as the series claimed to be. And your are right, the head just looks off; in your lighting, the bone has a grey/glow green look to it, not the grey as explained. Knowing it takes one year from concept to figure in hand, a lot of little changes could have occurred to the character in that time. You mentioned you prefer a harder cape, non-soft goods. Soft goods scream play with me, molded capes scream pose me. Wire-frame is awesome. Thanks for the review
200x is a gem. The height and size variations is just too awesome. Tons of unique sculpts. Buzz off have triple jointed legs. Whiplash is broad. Skeletor torso is shrunk in. Beast man is huge. Khan is slim.
@@wasabi-in-my-eye3134 exactly. Every figure had an amazing unique sculpt. Except for Beastman and Moss man who both shared the same body mould. They had some nice gimmicks too.
I love the look. The face is rough, but these are mass produced, marvel legends style figures. Before origins and super 7, I hadn't seen motu on retail shelves. I'm just happy to see He man in the toy aisle again
Great video. I have bought my own Skeletor figure because he’s one of my favourite iconic 80s villains and I love him. I can’t wait for the Hordak figure to come out because it looks awesome and he is also another of my favourite 80s villains. One thing I’ll say is the skull colour while not entirely accurate isn’t too far off. In the show his skull isn’t actually yellow. In the show his face in close up shots is a more grey/whitish colour so it’s fairly accurate. The figure is actually really cool and I’m so happy I bought him. I might buy He-man to go with him and Ik I’m going to get Evil Lyn because he needs his right hand ✋🏻 sorceress xx
I dont know what it is about the face but is the skull painted of the mold of the face or is the plastic skull molded poorly on the head? It also looks like the face/skull is a glow in the dark plastic. Either way if I get this figure im going to be repainting the face if it looks like that. Its been really fun doing that with the origins figures. I was shocked how a stock Origins Skeletor looks after painting mine and fixing the face and adding a proper skeleton jaw look with some shading. The Battle Cat is still really cool along with Evil-lyn and Mossman. Both He-man and Skeletor are gonna need some work.
One of the only good things from Netflix He-Man the action figures and mark hamill voicing skeletor, also Dan I think the skeletor you got must have been some kind of weird weird batch cuz the cape and face on mine looks looks good on mind like there is a curve on the cape on mine and my skeletor's has like a weird green tint like it doesn't have no shadowing like yours so I guess it's like some weird production hiccup that some of them look different 🤷😅 Edit: also today I got He-Man and skeletor I'm so happy they so awesome imo🥳
I have a question for you. Does Skeletor have spots or highlights of purple in his crotch piece/ Kilt what ever the black part below his belt is called? I bought a copy and there are oddly placed purple spots on it. they aren't circles or splotches they are almost diamond shaped. in a way they look as if they are supposed to be there. Just wondering if you have any insight on this.
I miss my 200x figures when I see this. (Sold 'em way too early and too cheap.) All those wonderful sculpt and paint details. And those were retail, too.
I definitely like Skeletor better than He Man and he'll be the online figure of this wave that I'll buy. I've just preordered him and was told that he will arrive here in Germany in November. The face can be corrected with a little yellow colour and Nuln oil...
Mattel will say the show was a failure because of the poor sales of these figures, instead of acknowledging the poor sales were because they made garbage figures
I can hope that the show will improve sales of Origins figures. (It's not like toys from the 1980s were animation-accurate anyway, and it usually wasn't a big deal.) On the other hand, the sales problems due to Origins' terrible distribution probably will cause Mattel to think that Origins is a failure too.
Revelations Skeletor head on Origins Neck looks like he can drink a jar of peanut butter. So far with He-Man and Skeletor Revelations, there are some good things, but I'm more convinced that the lack of paint apps and weird colors aren't allowing the sculpts to shine to the full potential.
Like the He-Man figure, I feel like this Skeletor would benefit from being made into a 200x style custom. Do want this one and He-Man, but so far I'm not really interested in any others.
hey Dan, love your videos. this one gave me an idea and wanted to share. so i don't very many motu classics yet as origins got me back into collecting. one of my classics is the faceless one as i got lucky and found him on ebay for 20 bucks shipped. i love that figure but didn't like how he held the havoc staff, so i dug it out of my spare items box and it fits perfectly in Skelegods hand and the size is amazing for how big that figure is and the coloring matches very good. so iif you haven't checked it out you might want to. keep up the amazing videos.
@@slavdef They won't do that!. Because that would be smart and what every serious masters of the universe collectors really would want including my self. And I grew to really love the origins In there own way and I can see this line ending or slowing down from rumors and other credable sorces of speculation because of this new line coming out. BUT YEA MATTEL MORE CLASSICS PLEASE!!
If I get this figure, I might look into mayby adding wear and tear to the cape? Just so it doesnt look so bland. Also I thought his face glowed in the dark? Do they even do that any more? or were we all poisioned as kids with our glow-in-the-dark toys? xD
